I love that how much you enjoy just playing music and having fun! So many dj youtubers takes things too difficult, but you just take it as simple as possible and I just love it! Like you said, the audience doesn't give a sh*t what you are doing behind the decks. Just keeping it simple and making people enjoy the music is what matters. These lessons are simple, and really fun to watch. Your way of teaching is so clear and easy to follow. Just keep up the good work! Greetings from Finland!
Thank you Phil! It's been a year since I'm practicing my DJ skills, I thought to myself that I've missed a lot of useful transitions, thanks for your videos, I've learned a lot 😊. Is there a part 3 of this?.Coz hiphop is really my thang 👍💯
I appreciate the spotlight on Hip Hop, especially for American DJs...Next time do an example on ATL Trap Music with Air Horn transitions, instead of older Hip Hop...Can you do one in the future on creative 80s Funk/Soul transitions, which can be harder.
The hardest part as a hip hop DJ is finding the perfect value on a song,is the the golden bar,is it the beat or is it just the refrain. For example when you play wutang you have to play the golden bars, for example you should never cut off method mad, when it comes to jurassic 5 refrain usually is the main attraction,in case of dre beat is what must stand out. The tough part is knowing what people want to hear out of one song. Also to be extremely honest the hardest part of a hip hop dj is the fact that you play hip hop and it's really tough to win the crowd if they don't hear hip hop 😂.
I have a problem right now is I have to put some ''not popular'' song in my hiphop set so the hit song like ''Yeah'' or ''The next episode'' can stick out , but I have no idea what unpopular songs I can put in. Could you give me some advice? Thanks a lot.
@@李家葳 Anything DJ Shadow made is somewhat unpopular and highly respected by old school listeners, also he had heavy influence from dnb making it perfect for clubs. There are many great Gang Starr tracks that even picking at random from their albums would be a safe bet. Gotta have it from method mad is a track that always works for me accompanied by good day from ice cube. Honestly it comes down to what you are aiming at,there are some hip hop tracks that can make people move, tracks that people just want to hear them for nostalgia reasons, then there are chill songs that people will vibe regardless. If you have something more specific in mind let me know but anything from a tribe called quest, das efx(real hip hop is iconic yet kind of unpopular), naughty by nature to DMX and ludacris can work.
Hi Phil, Another great Video. I couldn't quite believe some of the comments on Part 1. Some people clearly more interested to moan rather than understand the content clearly can work in a lot of Genre's where you have different BPM's Keep up the great work!! I have learnt a lot of extra skills from you. Top Geez!!
I wouldn't do it without you thank you for your help and right know my mom said I can be the Dj for parties and by the way what people really look for is more bass thank you again
You playing hip hop Showed me how good you are! You killed it! It’s hard for me to follow with EDM But with this you spoke my language And I see why your the guru
Won't get any popcorn because of the virus, but at least have some tissue. Let me use some to dust off my controller and try these techniques out! Well explained! Great lesson!
Creative syncing is always fun slower mi with faster beat , when playing hip hop we usually In so depending on how hot the song is 1vs hook but no more than 2nd vs hook!!! Good video
2021!!! This dj makes me want to be a dj 😂 , his like a father to me now that his wife is playing too thier like my family.... I wish i could meet you one day and have a cold one!
Hey Phil. Really cool video. I have a DDJ400 and I was trying to do the last transition you showed but whenever I set the cue points the song plays through instead of how you did it. I don’t know how to fix it to have the cue points just play the sound and not start the song. If you could help me with this that would be great

What if you're someone in my position where, you wanna learn how to DJ but you listen to the more umconventional genres like kpop? How do you keep your playlists rellivant? How do you know which people will like which genres?
You need to listen to the radio and playlists like "US Top 50" on spotify. Also go out to bars/clubs where other DJs are and listen to what they play and also watch how the crowd reacts to songs.

That last transition is a knockout
I've done that last transition by happenstance. Now I know how to do every time.
Awesome transitions. The last one i particularly like using the pads and playing the chopped beat over the song that's playing.
I appreciate the spotlight on Hip Hop, especially for American DJs...Next time do an example on ATL Trap Music with Air Horn transitions, instead of older Hip Hop...Can you do one in the future on creative 80s Funk/Soul transitions, which can be harder.

@ the 1:45 mark you touched the outer edge of the right controller, I notice that in a lot of other videos, what does that do?
I think it is to match beats.
Yo that last tip....thanks. Definitely about to start practicing that today!
I have a Transition DJ online do i wear ear phone when i DJing if so let me know and i like the way that sound on your Transitions it sound good.
Hey Phil- 3:42 it seems like you over scratch but once you let go, it seems to automatically matches the bar for you, how do you set that up?
I use sync too. Idc what the haters say. It's a feature on my controller so I use it

I like the scratch drop better just cuz it’s more “hip hop” 😅
Good choices of songs and cool transitions. 👍🏼
Best teaching video !
How do you know when to start track B, are you counting bars to the outro?
Question, why do people freak out about using the sync button? Is it just like frowned upon cause it’s easier or something?
Nice
