A true national treasure and the words are as true today as they were when first written - always the sign of a great writer. And wonderful Julian - Bona Inland Revenue. Fabulosa.

How many superlatives can one write about the late, great Beryl Reid? RIP Ms Reid.

This is one of the funniest sketches I've heard in many a year. There is such a lot of 'truth' in this sketch.... I fully agree with 'Mrs. Meredith' (Beryl Reid) !

"INCOME TAX" = "CHARITY" -- Money given and nothing received in return.... How true ! Nothing changes !

Good clip. The "bailiff" appears to be played by Jake Thackray ( Quite a few excellent clips of his songs here on TH-cam )

Where did you find this gem? Brilliant. I saw Beryl Reid in "The Killing of Sister George" in1968. Incredible actress. Thank you for this clip.

I never knew Jake Thackray did walk ons! He must have taken some persuading, he was notoriously self-effacing.

No not Kenneth Williams - though a quick look might give that idea . The part taken by Miss Reid, a good pal of Jimmy Edwards DFC was nothing like her usual 'Marlene' a brummie (Birmingham) over grown snotty schoolgirl - rather on the early St.Trinians type - though when Beryl starred in a St.Trinians film it was as a teacher . Marvelous actress in comedy and serious drama. Hugh Paddick was a radio star of 'Round The Horn' and 'Beyond Our Ken' also 'Black Adder 3'. and some films.

For a few years in my teens, (a mere three or four years after this), I worked for HMIT...the Inspector of, rather than Collector of Taxes...they were separate in those days...and the better for it....I can testify this sort of lady certainly did exist...with the benefit of considerable hindsight, I can tell you they were bloody right...we all end up getting fucked by the system...
