- I decided to take the 1956 Chevy 150 out for a cruise along PCH and pick the boys up some dinner from Neptune’s Net! My Dad worked for Chevy Engineering and bought a new 1955 Chevy Bel Air with 265 cu in. V8 with '3 on the tree'. It was powder blue. The interior of the 56 is very similar.
There is something elemental about the early cars. Basic and visceral. The straight cut gears in the transmission had a distinctive whine....like cam driven gearing on a Honda VTec motorcycle and many other motorcycles and cars.
Throughout the 60's and 70's he brought the fastest cars home from work at the Chevy Tech center and after dinner we would take them out and open them up. All of them, Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, SS cars with the fastest big blocks. I remember him bringing home a split window '63 Corvette and a coveted LS6 454/450 horse Chevelle with Muncie 4 speed I speed shifted on Woodward dragging other cars of the day. There are only a couple of cars that would stay with LS6 Chevelle in 1970. I hope you get a chance some day to own or drive a 1969 Camaro Z28 with solid lifter 302. That car is an icon because of how it makes you feel to drive. Few engines sound that good. Old Ferraris with more cylinders and webbers are about the only thing that sound better.
So these old cars are in my DNA and I became an automotive engineer like my Dad.
You do these cars proud. You were born about 40 years too late. There was no better time than to grow up in the 60's...the day of the Beach Boys you were listening to.
The setting that you shot in this video is breathtakingly beautiful.

Been my dream to ride the PCH California to Washington on my 72 Triumph Bonneville. Sadly I have waited too long and am too old. Your little excursion was special to me and I thank you.
Stumbled onto your channel, you checking out a 1967 GTO. The 67 GTO was my ride for many years. Bought mine new, a factory order. Took delivery in November 1966 from Meadows Pontiac in Portland. I was 20 years old.
Nicely optioned Baltic blue hardtop, 4 speed, Safetytrac differential, Rally l wheels, console, instrument package, tinted glass, interior light (reading light) group, AM radio and Delco 8 track player, rear window defogger, fast ratio manual steering and more.
Happy to report I never wrecked the Goat, but I did have a few close calls and a lot of speeding tickets. I credit the fast ratio steering and youthful reaction times to getting out of some situations on Pacific Northwest’s often wet roads.
Sold it in 2010 after rebuilding the engine and Muncie M-20. Owned it a few months short of 44 years.
Nice seeing an attractive young woman and fellow gear head here on TH-cam. You remind me of my girlfriend Betty, back in 1968-69. She liked my GTO and bought a white 64 GTO 4 speed. Fond memories.

I have a lot of good childhood memories there. We called it Mr Magoo's, from that cartoon older than that car. Grampa had a '56 Bel Air Hardtop. Good man. Good car. Good memories on that beach. Yes, The Beach Boys were playing. Beautiful. Thanks.

I drove PCH from Imperial Beach to Seattle back in 1975 in my 70 442. I was 23 years old. Would have been just as cool to do it in that absolutely WICKED 56! My favorite year for the tri 5s. Thanks kiddo for this video. You made an OG,S day! PEACE ✌️

thanks for this video, I did the PCH back when Dukes of Hazzard was on--even saw someone's version of Cooter's Tow Truck on the highway over and couldn't believe the number of E type Jags driving around. took the route to Big Sur and came across an accident...some kid had actually "borrowed" his brother's Z28 for a sunday race and crashed it. the older brother kept saying, "just glad you're alive" and i swear i did look around for a movie camera :)
I live on the other coast, so our Route 1 is flatter and more densely packed. If it wasn't winter, the seafood, fried food and ice cream joints would still be open, just like when bikers cruise from bar to bar on the weekends. wish I had my 56 Ford-door running, would be nice to cruise like this (even with the distortion in the corners of the wrap around windshield) with 3 on the tree and a Y block humming away.

Thanks for the different ocean views of somewhere on the Pacific Coast Highway. I was going to take an epic vacation cruise all the way from Washington. I was born near Monterey when my dad was in the army. I have no memories of seeing the ocean view from by birthplace because we moved to Germany when I was only 2. Thanks again, oh and I love that 56.

I have a 57 chevy pickup me and my 2 brothers have built it, my one brother who bought it in 87 passed in 93, we have a 71 monte carlo front clip 468/ th400 . Ain't nothing like the old school stuff, modern has its fans , but overall it's good to see people interested and motivated I have a few videos of it on my channel.

I live in Ventura, so I'm close by. I always take PCH when I have to go to LA. Hate the 101/405 mess.

The beauty of California and the entire West Coast is Grand, including in Vancouver, B.C. Baja California, Mexico, along to the south of Argentina, in the Pacific Islands and numerous other locations worldwide !
The main issues within California can be described as among the more Authoritarian, Controlling, Governance among the highest State Taxes within the USA, though less than the Parliamentary Government, Governance, Socialist/ISM of Canada, UK, Australia, NZ, SA, France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, etc. and certainly far less than those of the Communist/ISM Governance Totalitarian within CCP-China, N. Korea, Cuba, or remaining Authoritarian, Totalitarian Monarchies within Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran [elections facade] and few in Africa.
Still, while living in Florida or other locations, these unique beautiful nature and natural, physical landscapes, costs, environments can be experienced, enjoyed, appreciated, among all of those within California, USA, and worldwide too. It is just time, 'money' expense, costs as are available, desired, chosen, selected.

Hi Liv, just wanted to say I like the seat cover. As far as Cali goes it may have some great scenery, and great climate, I'll never see it in person though. I don't like the political climate out there. To much of a dictatorship for me.

Shame you didn't have more to hold onto the camera with, but oh well. And the beer bottles littering the southern California landscape has risen for the last five decades parallel to the increase in bilingual population. Definitely not the place I grew up in. California prior to the 1970s compared to what it is today is like a mouthful of gorgeous, perfectly matched, decay free teeth in contrast to bum teeth hidden behind herpes sore ridden lips. Sad that.
