Complacency? They don’t have a bad squad but the players never seem to have the same urgency other teams do. Same reason why France crashes out. Plus Italy’s depth isn’t anywhere near what Germany, France, Spain or even England have. Spain and England got very unlucky to lose their matches, especially Spain. If they didn’t have to rely on Morata they’d have put that semi-final to bed easy.

And Brazil only failed to finish in top 4 in 2010 and 2018 each time losing in the QF to Holland and Belgium respectively. France '98 won Euro '00 but had a horror '02 world cup but made the final in '06.

They were NEVER going to beat us at the Dragao. 50 thousand Portuguese supporters getting behind the team, with all the abundance of attacking options we have. I‘m German and a spurs fan. But I‘m actually always against my national team. But I‘m not for England at every tournament, so luckily I don’t have that pain. Many English Fans alone are a reason why they don’t deserve to win the World Cup.

Our problem is we don't have a clinical striker at the world level; Immobile & Belotti are good enough to score goals domestically, but the world stage is too much for them, and Raspadori is still getting experience playing on it.
I don't know why we didn't at least give Balotelli & Kean a chance (I know it's been 8 years since we used Balotelli & he's not exactly playing in a top league rn, but no one can deny he knows where the net is when he isn't trying to do a backheel in a City shirt).
When you've had 32 shots & only 5 on target (15%), the problem is clearly not chance creation but clinical finishing; Berardi fluffed an open goal ffs 😫. I know Chiesa & Spinazzola were injured, but we still had more than enough class on the pitch to get a shutout victory over North Macedonia so the fact we didn't is ridiculous - everyone played like they were stupefacient.
Even the shot North Macedonia scored with, as good as it was, should have been stopped/blocked way before it hit the back of the net.

Eligible, yes; clinical no, at least not on the world stage. I think both Italy & Spain need more clinical options - we're both missing that electric Del Piero/Raul-esque forward.
Yeah tbh Donnarumma has been dogwater since moving to the farmer's league, but for Milan he was generally world class & for Italy during the Euros he was the best GK at the tournament bar none.
