    To be fair, Shantae always had this type of Saturday morning cartoon writing. Not every story has to be deep like Steven Universe or Rick & Morty, thank God!

      I totally get that! Even if the writing doesn't appeal to me, I can appreciate that it's a deliberate choice, and certainly others will enjoy it.

      @@CloudConnection To bad you didn't enjoy Shantae. It is actually one of my favorite game series.

      I'm willing to try out another Shantae game! Seven Sirens may not have appealed that much to me but I'm still likely to try out either Pirate's Curse or Half-Genie Hero at some point.

    Well imo, best Shantae game is Pirate's Curse. If you dont like that game, you probably wont like any of the Shantae games much (granted, Pirate's Curse is a very different Shantae game. Still metroidvania but doesnt feature any transformation dance at all).
    Half-Genie Hero is good too but that's more of a traditional platformer getting from point A to point B with level select. The boss battle is more appealing in that game though and Risky Boots mode is fun (being Pirate's Curse gameplay).

    1/2 Genie Hero is so much better.

      Tbf, I wished they added more labyrinths like all the other Shantae games had rather than make it a complete 2D platformer like Mario but with 3D graphics.

    This was one of those games where I was happy to play it once, but probably won’t revisit it again. It’s fun enough, but just didn’t hook me like some of the other Shantae games. You should definitely check out the rest of the series down the line.

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I completely get that. I'm definitely down to try out other Shantae games; Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero are still on my radar.

    Pirate's Curse seems to be widely regarded as the best Shantae game, but since it spoils the ending of "Risky's Revenge", the second game in the series, I think it would make the most sense to start there.
    Half-Genie Hero, the fourth game, is basically a reboot, and while it does have many fans, it's also the only game in the franchise that isn't a metroidvania.
    I would love to see you dive deeper into this series and see if you will warm up to them. I personally prefer Shantae over the Ori games but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on that front xD

    It sounds like this game needed a little more polish. I've never played a Shantae game before and was debating on purchasing this

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It needed more polish for sure. Definitely not worth full price. From what I've heard, Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero are the better Shantae games - but I haven't played either of them, so don't take my word for it.

      @@CloudConnection Pirate's Curse is the best Shantae game out there, and that's a fact!! Half-Genie Hero is good, and has HD graphics, but it has a slightly linear "level" format rather than a interconnected format.
      Normally, Shantae games provide the player with the ability to traverse the whole map with the ability to see how to biomes change in between. A good example of this would be the first Shantae game for GBC, as you could walk around the entirety of the map without any cutscenes and transitional scenes. It made the world all feel connected rather than isolated sections/levels that you have to visit.
      Although Pirate's Curse has isolated islands, it works because those islands have interconnected maps of their own.
      The other things Pirate's Curse has going for it is the soundtrack, the more mature storyline, and the item system. All equipment can be used instantaneously (similar to the transformations in Seven Sirens), making for a Shantae with a lot of traversal versatility.
      All in all, you should definitely give it a try. :) That is the peak Shantae experience. Though, keep in mind that Pirate's Curse continues the story that was built up in the first 2 games, while Half-Genie Hero is a reboot.

    I’m gonna be honest about this here. Seven Sirens had a good setup that needed to be managed better. My main problems with Seven Sirens is that we have only just 1 giant Island but every bit of adventure took place underground; Shantae has traveled with Risky Boots to multiple islands in Pirate’s Curse and the balance between overworld and labyrinths were done well. They barely gave much backstory about how the events given on the new island connects with the main lore, i.e., Pirate’s Curse and Half-Genie Hero. I also wished we knew more about the Half-Genies (like if Vera has a crush on Plink so we could have at least 1 LGBT relationship, Plink even hinted her feeling for Vera during her introduction) and the towns that they’re supposed to be the Guardians of (especially Harmony and Plink whose hometowns weren’t even shown) so at least Shantae didn’t need to take all the entire spotlight. And the ending was cut too short; I wished we have an entire ending where Shantae and the Half-Genies danced on stage together so at least it could’ve been a lot more fun. Worst part was the final boss (Empress Siren) talking delusional exaggerated bs and being too easy to beat and that it only took almost a million hits to kill her; the part where she turns giant didn’t even makes sense.

    The complains you mention has been a thing since game 2 though. I love the art style and the series, and the character pics during the cut scenes.

    Honestly played through it like an hour ago and I have to say: It's probably the worst in the series.
    I loved Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero and Priate's Curse. Seven Sirens is just a huge step down in my opinion... :/

    • @millabasset1710
      @millabasset1710 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The next game needs to do something new, the 2d side-scroller has been saturating gaming for over a decade. I thought Seven Sirens was fun, but too easy and short; Half Genie Hero has better content despite being slow, Pirate's Curse is just the better metroidvania.

    • @tadaokou4919
      @tadaokou4919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@millabasset1710 Well, if you think the reason why the game is bad is that it's a 2D side-scroller...than I could not disagree more.
      A 3D Shantae would be a terrible idea. Games being 2D is not a bad thing in itself. Look at Hollow Knight or Ori or Megaman 11.
      The next game doesn't really have to do anything new.
      Just give us the same abilitys (or similar abilitys) as Seven Sirens and good level design like Pirates Curse with great visual design like Half Genie Hero...than we as fans would be happy.

    That's a bummer. I'm looking to get this game because I'm a fan but I kinda had my hesitations from what I'd seen, too. That being said, I highly recommend checking out Pirate's Curse as well as the first game on GBC if you wanna give it another go. I thought those were really fun and fulfilling metroidvanias.

    i got into shantae series solely not for the jokes, but for the amazing adventures
    it presents. and to hear others complain about how they got into it because of
    jokes.... dude i think every body has their own opinion on why they love shantae.
    me? i just simply enjoy shantae series because it holds bider memories and much
    more to the eye.

    Good to know I am not the only one who felt underwhelmed by this one. It's one of the weaker Shantae games, if I'm being honest. Then again, I had started this game fresh off the heels of completing the bar-raising Hollow Knight, so...let's just say that game raised my metroidvania expectations a little too high.
