My first reaction is, “Wow! That is a LOT of clothes!” But that’s me, not this client. I appreciate how the Suitcase Designer doesn’t force. You get “You do you” points! Hugs to both of you. So much of this is decluttering thing is emotional. The overwhelm is real. It does take time for some people. And some people might never let much go.
A B S O L U T E L Y. And at the end of the day, we have to accept that it's their home and their belongings.. (even when that's really hard to stomach)
I feel her when she says, “I wanna throw away all my clothes.” My clothes aren’t serving me and either dint reflect who I am or just dont fit. So Im working on it too. Its hard. And I love her grandma style.
It's interesting how over the years are style can change so much and I've found for me that certain items I was keeping me reminded me of past jobs or colleagues I wanted to forget. Letting them go was so helpful for me
#1don't buy "fast fashion" clothing! It looks cheap and will only last a few washes. Buy things you like but are better made and of good materials. I got rid of all my clothes like this. Just ridiculous to have to buy a whole new wardrobe every yr! Buy smarter and think what you need not what's in "style". What is your style? How do you feel in the item?😊 much luck
For real! There were so many pieces that she said, "I never would wear this but X brand will ask me to wear this again in a video." It's a real mixed work/home situation.
@@SpaceMakerMethod is there a possibility of separating her things from the things from different brands? Almost like capsule wardrobes?.Maybe hangers in different colors where each color represents a different brand? Including a specific color for her favorite/love to wear things? Maybe her personal clothing could have gold hanger hooks and the others have silver hooks? So... If her personal and favorite wearable items use white hangers with gold hooks and if Brand A has blue hangers with silver hooks... Then something that is from brand A AND is something she loves to wear, then that item would have 2 hangers, a white/gold and a blue/silver and could be hung on her "I wear these" rack. Then she could clearly delineate her "wearable" capsule from the other, "brand" capsules. All she'd need is a key code in her closet identifying the different brand colors: Silver hooks + specific color = brand capsules Gold hooks + white = Personal capsule -It would be organized. -It would separate everything by brand -It would separate the "I don't wear theses unless required" -It would separate the I wear these" from the others All the things she needs, but doesn't wear would be in a specific, branded capsule and separated from the things she actually wears.
I once helped a friend declutter and organize her garage and she said her biggest concern was how I'd judge her and that I would just randomly toss her stuff out. My job was just to organize what she decided to keep. My method was to sort everything into piles, like a pile for tools, a pile for gardening, a pile for automotive, etc. Once she was able to see all the duplicate stuff she was able to let go of the damaged items. While I would have gotten rid of much more than she did in the end I was able to organize everything into a functional storage area. Unfortunately she never maintained it. She suffers from a hoarding disorder. That makes me sad because she's such a nice person and can't see how how her hoarding negatively impacts her life.
You know, I've had MULTIPLE clients tell me the same thing (about being afraid I would just toss their stuff). And I feel ya on that last part too, it's a hard thing to stomach when you can see the negative impact something like that has on someone's life but they can't. I think it comes from a place of love. You want to help them live a happier life, but you can only do as much as they'll let you and at the end of the day it's up to them.😕
Hi! I really enjoy your nonjudgmental attitude- it’s what got me to subscribe awhile back. I’m a therapist and thought you might like to know (though maybe you already do) that the concepts of getting small wins early on, balancing acceptance with change/challenge, and allowing the client to define their goals and problems are all tenets of evidence based therapies! Tldr, your approach is backed by science ❤🤓
I really like what you said at the beginning of the video...only make 2 piles, keep or go. Sort the "go" pile later into the micro piles, donate, give away or throw away. Much faster and easier with just 2 piles at first. You are excellent with her, part emotional therapist part declutter therapist.
I'm about to start going through my nightmare clothes pile and was searching for a video to motivate me. This one is perfect! Very kind and encouraging. So many clothes organizing videos are all so...aspirational. This one is real.
What a GREAT idea to start with ONE item...the clothes! It was amazing! The transformation in June's attitude and spirit was amazing too. This was such a fun video to watch. Cannot wait for the rest in this series April! 😊
I am a Eunice. Not a minimalist like our space maker queen, but not a maximalist like Tracy. My job is a work from home 3 weeks, office 1 week rotation. So I need my lounge wear and my office clothes! I am so excited to binge watch this series in one go.
It is so telling how Eunice feels comfortable with April, since she doesn't put up a brave face but rather than that is open about how much anxiety this is giving her and how overwhelmed she is. Everyone has their own speed and method of decluttering. It speaks volumes how you exactly know where to insist and push a little and where to be a bit more lenient in order to avoid unnecessary additional stress. Your non-judgemental goal oriented approach to helping Eunice essentially help herself is really effective yet kind. I'm sure Eunice appreciates this and is glad to have you along for the ride! As usual when you do a closet declutter video, I pause in the middle of it and go do a speed declutter in my closet or my chest of drawers... got rid of 7 items during this one!
I just retired and did a major closet reorganization as I don't have work vs. non-work clothes anymore in theory. Didn't find much to declutter as I do so regularly but did put all hangers backwards to start fresh and figure out what I will really be wearing during this new phase of life It is inspiring to be reset as spring/summer approaches
I had a friend help me...just once. But, in reality I really needed her for at least a couple of times...still, it was nice to have help. Its really hard, not to accumulate.
Is this an essential? 😆 🐰 i agree the in between decluttering where it isn’t a instant gratification is always the hardest to start. Coffee ☕️ and a friend to hold one accountable. Once i had my husband just sit there 😆 to get it done. He was throughly confused as to why he was there. I’m going to do my side table drawers tomorrow 👍🏻
One of your BEST, yet. It’s cool to see her room after the original declutter & organizing (reality), and how to think of this declutter. It’s a process. Looking forward to seeing the next step in her new home!
Loved the longer video! It was so fun to hear the thought processes. Loved all the things you said about not pushing our values on others and finding the system that fits the individual’s life.
I agree with you when you said I'm going to give her the space she needs." The Suitcase Designer is so supportive and understanding with someone is going through decluttering and needs help with organizing.
Absolutely. Forcing does not work. I'm always left with resent/regret/frustration when someone does that to me in any area of my life. Not happening here🥰
I absolutely love how understanding you were with her & didn’t judge what or how much she had.I personally get overwhelmed with decluttering & hold on to things that remind me of a memory so it’s difficult for me but just seeing this video I’m like okay it’s okay if I can’t get rid of it now or today & just to stay mindful of that❤️❤️
Just starting this series, but the 1:08 mark was really great. You can see her stress and you gave her some relief. Already I thought, “Wow, she’s really good at this.”
I’m so proud of her. It’s not easy for everyone. I can let go of things easily but that has been a long process over 4 years of watching videos like yours, having my sister help occasionally and changing my mindset on what is really meaningful to me. Way to go both of you! I can’t wait to see her new home and how you both set it up
Yay, it's great to see a Declutter With Eunice! You two are so fun together! I love the progress and your methods make so much sense. Even though I declutter frequently and move energy around in my home by changing things up, these videos and the cameraderie always get me going again. I have set myself a goal to go through every drawer and cabinet and do a deep clean of every room by the first day of Spring. I mean, why waste Spring on cleaning! Do it before!
I couldn't agree more! And that seems like such a manageable goal to have too! And I'm so glad you liked the videos! We have so much fun filming these/it's still a lot of work😭 BUT FUN work! Many more episodes to come, we've got to get her decluttered and then moved in and organized😊
It can be a tough mental challenge to declutter knowing you’re going to a bigger space. I had to keep asking myself if it was worth the effort and cost to move it, and if I wanted the same overwhelm in my new space or a fresh, clean start.
Comments are saying she has so many clothes. I have 5 times that much. I love to shop and I love everything. It’s impossible to get rid of stuff that’s great quality that I still love
Oh my gosh your videos are life! Love love love love The decluttering your friend is amazing reminds me so much of me. Lol I am constantly decluttering and I need someone like you to help me so badly unfortunately it's always just me it's hard! :-)
I love the encouragement and addressing of the individual's personality/needs in this video! Your channel just popped up on my homepage as a suggestion and I'm glad it did. It is frustrating how many "organization" and "declutter" channels just tell you to get rid of everything or force some "plan" to adhere to. Personally, for my own needs, I found (through many a trial and error) that I am a visual person when it comes to things in my home but conversely, I hate having my "not pretty things" out. The compromise for me was to organize with bins/baskets but use labels. I found clip on chalkboard labels on Amazon that I can quickly throw on a bin/box/basket holding items and categorize them. So it is visual in one sense but neatly hidden away in a bin. I've been able to stick to this for over a year now and have labeled like everything in my house haha. But hey it works!
I always feel inspired by your declutter videos, so much so I pause the video and go do something, even a quick little something in my own house and come back to the video!! Anyone else?? 😂
Decluttering is a progress. I've still find it hard to get rid of stuff, but getting better at it. I never will be a minimalist a like my collections but it has to be manageable. I really like these videos because they keep me motivated.❤
I love your philosophy about not forcing your own view on others. I'm not a minimalist by any means and will never declutter down to a capsule wardrobe, but I LOVE an organized closet. I really apreciate how you try to implement personalized solutions for people.
I'm so glad you two have each other! Because I have no interest in clothes, it's hard for me to understand the real need for all these clothes....even though I understand Eunice's job dictates different clothing needs. YOU are so good at reminding me it's NOT about me. By the way April. I read other subscriber's comments and have come to the conclusion that you have the kindest subscribers out there. They get "you". Thank you, April. LKMH
I couldn't agree more! It's so easy to judge someones situation and more work to try and understand the why's. I think there's always a need for balancing that, I mean you don't want to be a pushover either or nothing will ever change, but if you don't take the time to understand who you're trying to help... you;ll never be able to really help them. It's been so refreshing to read the comments today. The energy is so supportive and I love that!!
It’s 21h45 as I’m doing some much needed cleaning which includes decluttering as I go too and listening to this playlist in the background.. and April is keeping me motivated!!
Hi April, I'm so happy to see you back!! I enjoyed watching this video. I give you lots of credit for helping Eunice. I would have been overwhelmed. Keep up the good work!!!
I think this is why it’s important to do that together and find an organization that works for the person living in the space. Not just swoop in and do the work for them. If that person doesn’t see the logic in the system, it’s bound to fail
Yup, she does have a lot of clothes! I have learned that with too much, you don’t own it, it owns you!! I have de-cluttered many items in the last two years and still have more to do. Glad that she is doing it now. Not fun when you become a senior. I can’t wait to see the final results!
Here from Eunice channel! I always considered declutter to be a physical endeavor as a whole so seeing how you take care of this from the person’s POV is pretty refreshing! Throughout the process, I appreciate how you constantly checked in with Eunice - asked how she’s doing, how she felt and her thoughts about certain things. I can be objective about declutter because I know it’s necessary, but it’s not the same for others and it’s important to remember that side of the matter and approach it accordingly.
Have you thought about just doing quick washi tape labels as you go (although they are my permanent labels too). Easy to write longer descriptions, easy to change, save mental gymnastics remembering. Love your channel ❤
This was so cute! I loved how you weren't forcing her to pair down, and instead were there as a friend. I do get overwhelmed with decluttering because for some reason I get attached to clothes(even if they have their tags on!) Especially as a plus sized person, clothing is expensive. Weight for me has always fluctuated or increased, so I'd hold onto pieces that didn't fit. Last year I decluttered everything that didn't fit or were things I no longer liked/wanted(mostly fast fashion or old f21 & kohl's). I do find it important to go through all of the clothes and then try the clothes on as a second step. Trying everything on (if it's a lot of clothes) can take a very long time. I've been more conscious of my wardrobe and it's important to remember what your wardrobe is doing for you. I have workwear, lounge wear, pjs, active, casual, formal, etc. It's so important to declutter things that will not have to be repurchased, and instead replace pieces at the appropriate time.
I just used the "one category" method on my own space and it was a game changer!! I love how that perspective shift got me moving and made the task feel so much less overwhelming 🤩🤩🤩
I moved this weekend. I was determined to declutter everything. What I got to was fab..good for me. I'm a bit frustrated that I didn't finish paper sort and scan and recycle, It's okay.
I like you and Eunice working together, y’all have fun while organizing! Plus keeping it real, we don’t always tackle what we should. Eventually it comes together
Loved this video! Can definitely relate to euni I’m a little hoarder with a lot of put off 😂 and she’s so lucky to have a friend like you to push her and help her sometimes we all need a push & some help! Wonderful video❤
Decluttering is hard and rewarding work. Rarely do you miss what goes out because "out of sight, out of mind". It took me many passes through my wardrobe to get to 100 pieces and that's where I stay. Good job for helping her in a practical way with your experience.
Oh yay! I'm so glad the feedback is so positive. It helps that Eunice is comfortable being on camera (most times people don't want their voice or face on camera which makes it hard), but honestly I like it more too! More to come!
I have SO many more clothes than Eunice (I have body image and clothing size-changing issues) .. they're all over my house. I would really love someone to help me the way you helped her.
I just love how real this is, I love your relationship and how easy it seems. This is one of my favourite closest declutters ever. And I've watched more than I can count.
Great job guys! Nice not to force anything either. If you have broken handles on bureau drawers remove them and run some cord or rope through as temporary handles.
Sometimes all you need to overcome the overwhelm, is a non-judgemental friend to help you do, what you know, deep down in your heart, you need to do. :-)
Ye have so much fun and banter sorting through all the clothes. Her homework is to try on all the clothes in the bag. Make sure she hasn’t hidden the bag the next time you call 🤭😂🤣 and that you want proof she tried everything on. Love these long videos. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏💪👍🙏💐😉
Wow! That's a lot of clothes, in a separate room no less. But so much progress. You two are so cute . The older I get I'm appreciating a simpler life, but have a few things that aren't going anywhere!
Truer words! Don't get discouraged during the process - as it gets beyond chaotic and that's that. That was an amazing after - I feel Eunice's relief at the space you guys made. I would be able to think more clearly in that space - see what I had and work to pack it up and get it all ready with much less stress and anxiety. Good job, Ladies!
I literally hang everything up (except socks, bras, and underwear). I always only use matching velvet hangers. Her place looks great. I got my closet organized before a move and will do the same when I get to my new house! Everything color coded...woooo You do amazing work!! Love it.
I was having a hard time keeping my kids closet shelves organized. I took a piece of clear tape, folded a small corner over so I could remove easily but anyways I wrote on the tape with a sharpie to label each shelf. Not pretty but helps.
i was just about to type that i really appreciate your 'non-shaming' approach, when you yourself mentioned it. changing behaviors we have been practicing our whole life after just one declutter would be great, however, it is unrealistic. i have come to realize that more often than not i need to trial and error before i find a system that works for me. until i enter a new season of life and than even tried and true things need to be evaluated and adjusted!
Very nice! Fun to watch! I look at all those clothes and wonder how do you have time to wear all that! Looks like fun! She'll be able to look at her maybes without feeling so overwhelmed...
We are all individual, as are our tastes and lifestyles. I have a friend who has a lot of different collections and puts on a great show at Christmas time with her whole house decorated for the Festive time of the year. I will give her credit as all her collections are curated and are kept neat and tidy, For me personally, I couldn't live in her home as I feel overwhelmed by all the stuff. I struggle with living in my own home as my husband of 20 years is a clutter bug and not organized. I love neat and tidy and only have what I love and use. There is nothing wrong with loving your stuff but when it becomes as disorganized as this and ends up like this regularly, it's time to work out why this always happens, why does a person need to keep so much stuff. There are many clothes that I absolutely love but I consider whether it would fit me, do I love wearing it, do I look fantastic and feel good in it. Hoarding and allowing this kind of disorganization to happen, there is a mental part to it. It's not laziness, For me, if I had this issue, I would look into therapy for why this happens. There is an underlying reason.
I love your disclaimer on not forcing your lifestyle on others and staying away from judgement, this is refreshing !
💛💛💛💛 I hate it when people have done (or still do that to me)... I don't want any of hat here.

I'm so gald you enjoyed it! Well maybe you can play it in the background and think, "what would april tell me?" You got this!!
Someone else said they did the same thing and decluttered 7 articles of clothing! What did you declutter?
This is such a good idea! I'm going to start doing this to keep inspired!
I totally agree that everyone has different needs and wants. I’m happy she has you to help her get through the clutter.
Hi April, I'm so happy to see you back!! I enjoyed watching this video. I give you lots of credit for helping Eunice. I would have been overwhelmed. Keep up the good work!!!
Oh just wait🤣It's gets me in the next episode!
I think this is why it’s important to do that together and find an organization that works for the person living in the space. Not just swoop in and do the work for them. If that person doesn’t see the logic in the system, it’s bound to fail
100% anytime someone approaches me to do this work in their space without them present, I always turn them down. IMO it doesn't work like that.
Clothing is a challenge...before you know it you have way more clothes than you. need. Great that she is reaching out for support.
I moved this weekend. I was determined to declutter everything. What I got to was fab..good for me. I'm a bit frustrated that I didn't finish paper sort and scan and recycle, It's okay.
Oh man that happens before moving! But you can still go through it andyou'll feel so good.
Giod job girls, the video doesn't feel long at all. I like Eunice and how you work together
Oh yay! I was hoping the flow would be smooth!
Yay!!! Eunice is back🤍💜❤️ I love you guys together!! Yes longer is always better!! Love the over 20 min declutters!!!🎉💛
Decluttering is hard and rewarding work. Rarely do you miss what goes out because "out of sight, out of mind". It took me many passes through my wardrobe to get to 100 pieces and that's where I stay. Good job for helping her in a practical way with your experience.
Yea!!so great to be with Eunice again. Curious to see what her hubby’s closet looks like too. 😂 such a great video, you two have such good chemistry 👍
I like the longer when you do the short ones you go through disclaimers each time but when longer it is more cohesive
Oh yay! I'm so glad the feedback is so positive. It helps that Eunice is comfortable being on camera (most times people don't want their voice or face on camera which makes it hard), but honestly I like it more too! More to come!
One step at a time, Eunice! Little bites gets you through! Best of luck! Only the best for the new walk-in robe which I can't wait to see.
Amazing job! I'm happy to know that there will be more episodes with Eunice in the future.
Can't wait for the next episode!! I love the Eunice videos - really satisfying and uplifting. You two are adorable
22:00 it's so cute!!
Eunice is so fun to watch! Love her vibe 🙂🙃
If she actually does her homework I will be shocked🤣
Wow! That's a lot of clothes, in a separate room no less. But so much progress. You two are so cute . The older I get I'm appreciating a simpler life, but have a few things that aren't going anywhere!
Lots of progress today!
The hat portion was funny. The rabbit ears, hilarious. I couldn’t believe she said she videos with those on. I’m rolling with laughter.
I loved how patiently you helped your friend!
This video is awesome, and needed. I couldn't get started, because I identify with the client. I love this video. I will try this.
Hope it helps 💛
I literally hang everything up (except socks, bras, and underwear). I always only use matching velvet hangers. Her place looks great. I got my closet organized before a move and will do the same when I get to my new house! Everything color coded...woooo
You do amazing work!! Love it.
I was having a hard time keeping my kids closet shelves organized. I took a piece of clear tape, folded a small corner over so I could remove easily but anyways I wrote on the tape with a sharpie to label each shelf. Not pretty but helps.
The hat at 21:24 looked so good on you!!
😹
i was just about to type that i really appreciate your 'non-shaming' approach, when you yourself mentioned it.
changing behaviors we have been practicing our whole life after just one declutter would be great, however, it is unrealistic.
i have come to realize that more often than not i need to trial and error before i find a system that works for me.
until i enter a new season of life and than even tried and true things need to be evaluated and adjusted!
💛💛💛💛💛💛
Very nice! Fun to watch! I look at all those clothes and wonder how do you have time to wear all that! Looks like fun! She'll be able to look at her maybes without feeling so overwhelmed...
Absolutely! Let's hope she does her homework!
It motivates me to see realistic cluttering jobs. I feel like I can do it. Thank you👍🏽
Doing my seasonal change out to spring clothes…want to major declutter closet as I do. Thanks for the tips and tricks to push through.😊
Can I just say how much I love Eunice ❤️.
💛
I LOVED THIS! Well done ladies!! So amazing of you to help her like this.
This remind of my closet....need some decluttering
I love that you also show the times you guys end up laughing! You have to laugh!
I love the dynamic between you too. And it’s nice to see the transformation. Thank you for being patient and understanding for us clutter bugs ;)
Woooow, i have 1/20 of her clothes and i already feel owerwhelmed by what i have
I love your manner and thoughtful consideration. ❤ 😊
Eunice is so funny. I love this
i love how long and chatty the videos are! While I'm watching, i am also decluttering while listening ^_^
Yay! We'll keep making more like this! 💛
Love this declutter! 💗
Yay! Thanks for watching! 💛
