I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t have a junk drawer. Thank you for calling out the fact that we don’t have to decorate for each season!
I never and will never decorate for any season or holiday. I dont celebrate any holiday except Thanksgiving and barely Christmas, and for birthdays, ugh 🙄. Its all way to much.
lol.
❤❤❤
I have never had a junk drawer and never will. Everything in it's place! Why waste a whole drawer for junk
The longer you live in your home the more likely it gets cluttered. We have lived in our current home for 23 years and it’s pretty full. I’m on a decluttering journey as we have bought a home to downsize into. The things you find are surprising. I think I’m like your mom and just ready to let things go. When you get older and have health issues (which I do) it’s just exhausting to try and maintain your home especially with so much stuff. I want my home to be easy to clean and maintain.❤️🙏🙏🙏
❤ 🙏
We collected all photos & made 41 piles bc that's what we had. Now for a Christmas gift we sent all pictures back to the ppl that we had pictures of beside cards & sent a handmade card to say I didn't want to toss ur love ones away so here they are & enjoy. And some ppl had past away & they never saw my pictures so it was beautiful to them. Think about it. I started with 1981 & boy was it a blessing to c where & how fortunate we are with friends & family. Good luck hope it helps ppl.
amazing idea, thank you for sharing!!
What a lovely idea 😊.
We only use ROKU. My husband watches FreeVee or Tubi. I watch Dateline or Oxygen on Live TV on ROKU. I only shop for things we eat, use or wear. We just bought our dream home and we're using our starter home (it's paid off) as rental property to pay our mortgage on our new home. Buying this home is worth every step it took to get here! I use the Dave Ramsey method of budgeting. We're a one income family with 5 kids. I hope this helps someone.
I ran across your video today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm the cleaning organizer myself. But I get tips from everywhere and enjoyed your voice. I find it motivational to get things done at home when I turn these on and you have a lot of Really great ideas. I just wanted to mention that white vinegar might take the stain off the lazy Susan. And I've used old vinyl strips from old flooring for cabinet liner. I don't know if anybody else likes it, but it's great if you have scraps or can pick up a piece somewhere. It's wonderful for shelf and draw liner. And so is old Christmas. Birthday, etc. You can use that to line your cabinets and on top of your cabinets. And then when they're greasy and yucky, you could just throw it away.
An absolutely satisfying decluttering compilation. I can relate to accumulating a bunch of stuff over months / years & how freeing it is to declutter what doesn' t serve you in this moment in life. I've been on a decluttering journey for years with paper as my nemesis 😂. ❤ that you are now helping your parents declutter. Thank you for the continued motivation.
Yeah, decluttering never ends! Thanks for keep the constant effort to upload and create a clutter-free space.❤
I love junk drawers. Call me a weirdo, but other people's junk is waaaaay more interesting!!😂
This video is motivating. Thank you.
NO gifts...experiences ONLY. That has been our request of family and friends for the past 5 years or so. It has helped with the accumulation of random decor, mugs, candles, cookbooks, etc etc.
We ask for things we need like gift cards, firewood, fire logs, ziplock bags, baked goods, etc
I have tried that too. I have also asked for people to donate to a particular charity. They are resisting lol. We give our Mother who is in her 80's experiences with us. It works out great.
Any experience gift ideas for family who don't live near??? Thank you
I asked for no gifts, experiences only, so this year I didn’t get anything from my family. Well, guess it was best, I hated the gifts they gave me. Nothing I’d ever want
@@staciemcdonald4090What on earth DO YOU ACTUALLY WANT?? You sound pretty bitter considering the fact that you SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR “NO GIFTS” & when you didn’t receive ANY GIFTS you were UPSET AND PULLED THE “POOR ME CARD”!! THEN, even still, YOU HAVE TO throw it out there that you never liked anything they bought you anyway! So, what is it?? Did you give them ANY CLUE what you wanted as an experience?? Most people would really have no clue unless you actually gave them some ideas. Make up your mind and ask for WHAT YOU REALLY WANT & IF YOU DON’T GET IT then stop participating in gift exchanges in the future! BAMM! Done deal, buy your own gift for yourself & then you KNOW that you’ll get exactly what you want! It’s really a pretty easy concept to figure out…
I love using my photos as my "home decor" so I decorate with a LOT of photos around my home and it makes me happy. You have to find what makes you happy! 💜
▫️Great video! I’ve been decluttering for 11 years now. I continue to make decluttering rounds thru everything. I continue to f8n$ more to declutter.
▫️Cords. I started labeling cords when we got them. Sometimes with a label from my label maker. Some with a Velcro cord wrap that includes a writable tag surface on one end. I keep cords in a coffee table drawer near my charging place. We have a big stash of cords in the garage that we need to dispose.
▫️Junk drawer. We call ours a utility drawer. Because we’re fancy like that! 😂 As a child of the 50s the word “utility” was used a lot. We had a utility room, utility closet, utility cart in the pantry and utility drawer in the kitchen. It stuck with me. Our drawer is organized much like yours. We don’t have an office space and do desk work at the kitchen table - so desk supplies are in the utility drawer.
For the photo Christmas cards, I keep a medium sized photo album about 10 x 8 that has full page plastic sleeves. Generally one page per family, with the most current photo card in the stack on top. I'm not sure if I'll always keep them this way, but I do like having all the years in one place and accessible anytime. Graduation and baby announcements also go in this album. It's pretty stuffed, so I have a cloth band with velcro holding it all together.
Thanks for this episode I have gotten out of bed and gotten dressed, made my bed, folded my pjs and made a cuppa
Everyone has a junk or utility drawer or bin somewhere in their homes even minimalists. That’s crazy if people say they don’t. Sounds like denial. Thank you for your motivation videos ❤
I label all cords when I get them.
That's so clever 😮
I started labeling my cords a few years ago. Absolute game changer 😊.
Very smart.
It’s a necessity these days.
First time viewer, I enjoyed your channel, could you link the filming box you mentioned please . Thank you
I enjoy watching these videos! I used to enjoy cleaning my grandma and grandpas house when I was younger! It was satisfying!
Great video as always Catherine❤I love it when you show the trash bags at the end to show how much you have decluttered
Great Job! Ignore the comments about how your are getting rid of items! Those comments are not worth your response! Love what you did for your parents. Yes, they collect things and are the generation that didn't waste anything so they kept things just in case, plus with both parents working there just isn't the time to declutter, that goes on the back burner. It looks so great!
I agree with you on Temu. Most of the items I bought didn't work or was crap. They wouldn't replace broken items. I will never shop with them again. I love all your organizations. Helped me alot. I need to organize now myself. I'm leaving a 3br to 1 br. I also have 2 storage sheds. I have lots of work ahead of me. Thank you
I have a lot of fun helping my relatives with their decluttering and organization projects. It makes me so happy that the people I care about feel comfortable enough to open up and trust me to go through their spaces.
I'm glad you have a chance to create a more peaceful atmosphere for your folks.
No one should feel embarrassed for needing help or for wanting to make positive changes. We all have flaws and struggles.
Even after reaching a 'maintanence' level with my belongings, I still have times where things get messy. The only difference is that those messes are MUCH smaller and take very little time to clean up.
I'm convinced that it's impossible for me to craft without creating a small disaster area 😂
@personplaceorthing
Wish I was your family member, lord knows I can use some help. Definitely time for changes
We only watch you tube, they have movies that may not be the newest but it’s free.
Me too. I don’t even own a tv.
I put photo Christmas cards in with my Christmas decor! When I take the bins out each year it’s fun to look through :)
Amazing amount of stuff gone, your parents will be able to keep things organised now ❤️
Use your pretty ikea bowls as decor in the bottom of your pretty cabinet for your extra wires & charger you were questioning yourself about in the kitchen 🙏🤗💕
I’m sooo grateful for you and this video! I’m in the process of decluttering the storage unit we’ve had for 11 years. Using the body doubling method and you are so incredibly helpful and uplifting! I about lost my mind a couple times due to the sheer volume of stuff- like what was I thinking!?! Thank you for reminding me it’s going to take longer than I thought 💪💯🫠I’ve got a similar affinity to magnets as your sweet Mama! ❤😂
The cats are so invested 😂
Thank you so much for your vídeos! They're the only ones I love to listen to when I'm cleaning up my house ❤
I totally understand. My husband calls me a tote shuffler.🤦♀️ I’m going threw everything. My hardest hurtle is my 40 years of pictures. ☹️
Hi Catherine! I don't use Temu either and I only stream TH-cam free movies and TV and MAX because it's free with AT&T. I also have a "junk drawer" but for some reason it feels better to call it a utility drawer. I've only bought one thing on Amazon since August. LOL. Thanks for the great video!
Love temu
It was really useful to hear about Temu as I've been seeing their ads for a year now and just didn't trust them. Thanks for that first of all.
Temu is a market place the same as Amazon both sell the same items from the same suppliers you can see the same ads on both its only the prices that differ and alot of things on both sites are cheap copies but as with everything you only have to buy what you want and temu do free returns if you're not happy 😊
Catherine… The easiest idea for the stains on the lazy Susan trays would be to use contact paper or vinyl shelf liners. I bought the Vinyl roll from Walmart and love it. It’s heavy enough to lay nice and easy to cut with lines on the back for measuring.
Always watching your videos my stress reliever watching here from Philippines ❤
I enjoy your videos. Very relaxing and motivating. It's always a good feeling to decluter or donate stuff.
Now in my 70's n living in a tiny home, I am over all the
stuff. I agree throwing out is my ultimate goal. Anymore donating to thrift store, if they are willing to pick it up, in some cases yes. But thrift places are looking like junk stores. The way you are going through as you tidy up is a good option as well. Thanks.
Oh I love basement decluttering because I am currently trying to organize and declutter our basement. I have a container in a bedroom closet that I keep electronic items and cords. The cords I presently need I use and know what they are for. The cords in the closet are kept there even though I don’t think I will ever need.
Great job on your parents kitchen cabinets
❤😂🎉
For Christmas cards we cut the picture half off and bring those to our local school so the kids can use them to make their own for their family and friends
You are very encouraging and uplifting. Getting rid of clutter and throwing everything to the curb! I too have stopped shopping at temu! And now I watch what I buy on Amazon. These online stores make shopping too convenient for shopping.
Thanks so much for sharing your videos 🎉😊
FOR GREETING CARDS: buy those extra large yet slim photos albums, put all your greeting cards lined up in those. You can categorize the albums by seasons and put on display during thier respective time period.
Regarding user's manuals, it's a good idea to keep them if your appliances are more than a couple of years old, because depending on the merchant, you may not be able to find them on the website anymore. That has happened to me before.
Walmart has some clear bins that fit perfectly in lower cabinets. This might work for your corner cabinet in your kitchen.
Oh my goodness, this was my first time here .WOW, i am so tired lol ,,,Love Love Love ❤❤❤❤❤
I have place extra cords in our car & truck glovebox in case we travel, camp or out town needing a backup 🙏🤗💕
Tip: before any technology or appliance you should have invested at least 50$ on a decent shredder. Never EVER throw away mail with your stuff on it, being just the address to more serious things like birth dates, ANYTHING. And if you already have one, use it systematically. Sit it near the mail cabinet and do it for the most innocuous piece of paper. 'Better safe than sorry' has never been more apt. Good decluttering!
I don't keep cards in general past a few weeks or the end of a holiday season unless it's particularly special. The joy of a receiving a card is when you receive it &/or display it during a holiday season or your b-day week. After that, I toss them & I don't feel any guilt (even if the card has pictures on it!). I don't think anyone is expecting you to store cards for a long period of time & keeping them just creates another declutter item for future you.
I agree they aren't sensible my second draw is like yours. A bitsa drawer. so don't worry about them. They obviously not living full.
What!! Most every home organization channel I watch they have a “junk drawer”. So you are perfectly fine.
Don't throw away give to charity what's good
the cat was eager to help 😀
i really enjoy the loooooong videos
Creative memories for your photos. We have an album that has pockets, and you just slide the photo in, and you are done.
With Christmas cards, i used to keep the ones i would get from school friends etc and make small gift boxes or christmas decorations out of the printed side.
Special cards i would keep, or take a photo/scan of the messages that were dearest to me. I'd strongly recommend taking photos or scans of what you consider special because pen ink fades/changes over time. I've got really old messages where the ink has turned fuzzy/blurry.
We get the Hulu Disney bundle on black Friday every year (alternate email address w husband) for $3.17/mo w tax. That's all we have. Sometimes we'll get Netflix for $6.99 just for 1 mo and then cancel. You can pretty much find anything online to stream after a day or two on Netflix, etc.... haven't paid for cable in 16+ years!
I agree about no more Temu. It was a bad habit and all the stuff winds up being junk.
If is completely dry. Contact paper can give a fresh look
You do have a lot of stuff well done for clearing it out
We are on same page, bottom drawer for Cricket supplies, how funny 🙏🤗💕😂😂😂made my day
You have a great talent and it's very sweet that you can help your parents. Did you find it easier cleaning other people's stuff out?
I struggle with putting things in a landfill
I find myself donating every useful item
But I’m left with the oddball things that could have use in the right situation and the pretty stuff donated.
I do what my Grandmother did with her Christmas cards, I store them in a box with Christmas decorations every year and pull them out and hang them on a ribbon down the walls to display. That way I'm not throwing out the thoughtfulness of others, but I can use them as decorations years to come and they're not taking up space in my living area. Hope this idea helps.
I label my cords as soon as I get them. That way you know what it belongs to when you need it.
I'm not a builder or carpenter, but my thoughts on the water damaged cupboard beside the dishwasher:
Easiest would be to ask a professional, be sure it's dry enough and then let them just change the damaged parts.
If doing it yourself I'd search online including youtube for more knowledge. Probably easiest to take away the door for a while and have it empty for airing. Then I'd make sure it has really dried out, and of course under and behind the dishwasher if there was any risk of water going there. Then saw away the damaged wood, and let it dry more. Measure the old bits and saw new pieces and put in place. Doesn't have to be perfect, just functional since there is a door.
But a professional who understands that you want as little as possible done is the easiest🪚⚒️🪚
Your house is organised❤😊
I've ordered probably 20 things from TEMU and I've never had a problem. One water hose came in with a bent box and I was going to send it back and they said no keep it and they refunded my money. I've had probably six or seven outfits for my granddaughter, they all turned out perfect. I ordered two purses and I just switched them around and they are still in great condition. I ordered a corded vacuum cleaner and it sucks better than my Bissell. It was only $56.00. I've been using it since February and haven't had one problem with it. Not everything is junk I don't think. Did you throw everything away in the landfill or did you declutter a lot of that to Goodwill or another company? I hope you didn't throw it all away.
I agree. We've saved so much money buying straight from Temu, vs going through Amazon all the time. As long as you stay away from the junky gimmicky stuff, you should be good 🤷♀️ oh and always read the reviews. I don't buy the products that have zero reviews.
I agree you can pick apart any company if you try .
I LIKE THAT YOUR DOING YOU, YOU MAKE SO MUCH SENSE! WE ALL NEED REAL THESE DAYS, I LOVE THE MOTIVATION! GREAT WORK. DO YOU DO OTHERS OUTSIDE YOUR PLACE, IF YOU RUNOUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU DO OTHER PEOPLE'S CLUTTER. WE ALL NEED HELP . BLESSINGS. ME GRAMA LONDA
You did quite a lot of work there and have a beautiful home. Maybe teach the kids to clean up at a certain time before bed and set a timer. That seems like way too much for one mom to clean up, especially toys. You inspire me to get my own surfaces and drawers/cabinets under control. Maybe put odd cords into a basket. I worry about unknown cords too--hard to throw out. Good job!!!
Oxiclean works great on fabric. Baking soda and vinegar with Magic eraser, , Dawn dish detergent is great for grease ,maybe some baking soda added for abrasive
I rarely pre wash my dishes. I just put them in the dishwasher as is. They usually come out just fine.
In reply to your cord question:
I keep a label machine in a desk drawer near my high traffic area and when I get some thing in with a cord I type it on the label and stick to the cord. My cordless, vacuum, my cordless spin scrubber, Kindle charging cord etc
Get that Christmas feeling by putting your Christmas lights back up on that upper trim in your living room
I put all wires/chargers with the item they are meant for.
Hi, how you doing? Hope you guys doing very well. I love what you doing. Keep it out my life to hear more of it. Please can’t wait to see the patient declared.❤❤🎉🎉😊😊
If you go to Clutterbug on You tube Cass has some great systems that are simple and very useful, especially for children’s school papers and command center. She is really upbeat and funny. Plus I agree a junk drawer is a necessity!! Lil 15:45
I don't ever have a problem with TEMU. I'm always pleased with the items I received. Sorry that you didn't have a good experience.
I’ve used TEMU for about a year now and I’ve never had any issues.
I've used Temu mostly clothes from my grandkids. Most items are well-made, but there have been disappointments also.
Walmart + also provides groceries delivered to your home. I am a disabled veteran and I can get my services to my apartment.
For the impulsive amazon shopping, Im guilty of it to! My way of cutting back on it was making a list of "maybes" when i knew i didn't immediatly need it. From this I would only purchase it if within two weeks I thought to myself "man this would be so helpful rn" if you wouldn't think that then u wouldn't need it
Is the kitchen you’re working in the one in your small house? So many small space organizing videos show kitchens with much more drawer and cabinet space than mine.
I live in a 1200sf rental apartment. The galley kitchen has 3 average width drawers and one very narrow drawer; 3 upper cabinets (plus a small one over the microwave); 4 bottom cabinets (counting the one under the sink); and a very narrow pantry. I’ve been looking for kitchen decluttering & organizing videos showing a kitchen like mine, but haven’t found one, yet. Good luck on your decluttering and downsizing journey!
With the stained lazy Susan cabinets, I would take it apart & paint it.
anything you want to gift/donate i am more than willing to take off your hands! i’m a single mom of 2 & can’t afford things i’d love and want/need like the cricut items or whatever!! i’d take anything! 😊
Can you please share the link of where you got your over the door storage organizer for your meds?
Maybe it’s not junk but I keep a 100’ tape measure from my real estate days, two or three screwdrivers, a tube of gorilla glue and several small spice bottles with loose screws/nails/brads. Plus a utility knife with a sharp blade. It shall remain the ‘junk drawer’. 😊
GREAT motivation. Thank you for sharing!
This is how I want to do it!!!!!! Thanks every room to much stuff
Use the pink stuff (in a tub) to scour the stains off. And then honestly... use contact paper to cover it up, it seems yellowed maybe.
Lazy Susan's or the turning cabinet is best for canned foods and boxed
Keep your Christmas cards for arts & crafts for next Christmas. Allow your kids to cut pictures from them to make ornaments.
Hi Catherine 💓! Is this footage we've already seen?
This is a compilation video of her past declutters.
I bought a bed frame from Temu and I love it. Yes some things are junk but I look at reviews and ask myself do I really need this & if it's junk can I easily replace it?
Your Young Living diffuser does not put moisture in the air. Great video. Very inspiring.
Omg so many clothes, I have had to declutter getting into a motor home I have learned to layer so I don’t need as many
Cords I have matched to the items and decluttered ones that don’t belong I have also decluttered the items I no longer use to free up space
1:01:13 I'm right there with you. I've stopped folding my undies.
I made boxes for my two children one each and then gave them to them for their 21 birthday
For the cabinet without a door, make a new door for chalk or dry erase front. Use it as a command center or a pretty picture or wallpaper front that matches the kitchen. Make it look purposely different, something functional for the family, Grandkids art work, I'm not super creative but maybe someone else has better ideas.
I think the junk/Bullwinkle drawer should be renamed the convenience drawer. To me it is items not "native to the room" but needed frequently enough to keep some things there.
I too have cut off streaming services and now I only pay for TH-cam premium. Amazon, well I pay for premium but I find every movie I want to watch I would have to rent or pay through yet ANOTHER streaming service. My subscription ends next year because I prepaid for the year. I’m not resubscribing and I’m paying off the card and buying locally to support my community. This weekend I tackle the garage and I I tend to be ruthless.
Cords cords and cords, they are like bunnies, multiply and multiply and any kind of drinking items.
Pictures go into albums on the bookshelf here, what does not fit goes into closet. Pictures of duplicate things get tossed. Family pics are offered to my kids. My cords go into a box with a shelf date, after a year if not put into a 2nd box marked used, they get tossed.
The Buybeem thing was a mini drink mixer.
I'm from Arizona and we can rent movies from the library for free.
NY as well 😊.
Because I live in a motor home I have scanned all my photos and family history papers and given then to other family members
