  • Mark Banning tackles Jeff Beck's' "Cause We Have Ended As Lovers." Seems like a fitting end to our professional work together.
    Mark Douglas Banning, 70, of Castro Valley, California, passed away on October 11, 2023. Born on October 3, 1953, in Southern California, Mark was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
    Mark will be remembered for his kind, patient, loving, and giving nature. He touched the lives of many with his generosity and compassion.
    Mark's passion was guitar playing, and he pursued his love for music throughout his life. He had the privilege of performing and recording with numerous bands, including an impressive 20-year stint with The Unauthorized Rolling Stones. His talent led him to share the stage with renowned acts such as Journey, The Scorpions, Beach Boys, Elvin Bishop, Elton John, George Thorogood, Molly Hatchet, Foreigner, Captain Beefhart, Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Pat Travers, among others.
    In 1978, Mark began teaching guitar lessons, and his dedication to sharing his craft influenced and inspired countless students. Many of his students went on to become professional musicians and music magazine journalists, a testament to Mark's exceptional teaching abilities.
    Mark is survived by his loving wife, Valerie, and children: Jason, Jesse, Jordan, Jessica, and Brian. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Jacob, Dylan, Devon, Becca, Elizabeth, Emmy, Isaac, Adella, Ashlyn, Tiffany, David, Jenna, and Tim as well as his great-grandchildren: Matthew, Sophia, and Clarissa. Additionally, Mark is survived by his siblings, Marianne and David.
    A public memorial service to honor Mark's life will be announced for the spring of 2024. Details regarding the service will be shared at a later date.
    Mark's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his musical talents, kind spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. May he rest in peace
