This is our "20 Years of Chocolate" episode. It gave us a chance to tap a lot of skaters that have never been featured on the show before, and its an honor just to ride in Chocolate's wake.
My all time favorite skate company right here!! Best boards I've skated, always the best graphic artwork too, consistently some of the sickest skaters ever on their team for years and years, their logo/brand and style of skating, the affiliation with Girl, the whole family vibe, just everything about Chocolate Skateboards is rad as hell... Can't wait to watch this!
I used to ride ALL SORTS of decks throughout my skating years (skating for over 20 years), but the brand I bought the most decks from was GIRL skateboards... I experimented with LOADS of different companies first, like SHORTIES, ZERO, BAKER and BLIND, but when I got my first GIRL deck, it just seemed to fit me like a glove! Think it was a Rick Howard deck. I found the GIRL decks to be lovely and WIDE as well as LONG. They also had a perfect concave, which seemed to suit my style of flipping PERFECTLY. The GIRL decks literally made me a better skater, and by the time I was riding on their decks, I was busting inward heels and the like off pretty HIGH ledges, something I could NEVER manage on other decks... I think we ALL need to find the deck that suits our style, and for me, this was GIRL SKATEBOARDS. Respect to ALL you skaters, from Davey in Éire (Ireland)... PEACE!
Honestly when it comes to boards, i think the best way to go, if you can afford it, is to get the pro models of the skaters you respect and admire the most.
Same for me with boards from generator (zero, magenta, Baker, death wish, plan b etc). They are stiffer somehow. Crailtap decks (girl, chocolate) etc where always so low concave and soggy. Plus as they press 10 boards at one go you have never the same concave again as the boards in the middle come out differently than the others
I rode Girl for years.. I also had a few Chocolates and I really liked them too, maybe even more than Girl but they wore out a lot quicker than Girl boards for some reason..
world industries and blind were cool when you were 14, their graphics appealed to kids. Girl and Chocolate had more grown up graphics. I literally remember the point where everyone started skating girl and chocolate boards, usually when they hit like 17 or 18. I still like my toy machine decks, templton has some sick designs.
Psycho kids maybe, driller killer and accidental gun death were heeeeeavy visceral graphics. Kids might have enjoyed them for the edgy factor but artistically they were very appealing to people of my age back then, and also now as an older skater. The blind reaper, wet willy and flameboy were cookie cutter kiddo bullshit, but that marked a shift in both companies directions and also culturally. I love crailtap, their art direction was/is excellent and well rounded. I'm not being negative about them. I'm just saying that the world camp, the companies under the Rocco umbrella, were excellent at their peak moments. Changed the whole game.
Chocolate was such a smooth , good looking board. When i was young id skate Blind loved the designs but just felt weird Chocolate was perfect would fly home
In high school, one of the cool skaters had a Chocolate shirt, maybe Girl too. He graduated in 1996 cuz he was a grade ahead of me so it was probably 95 when i saw him with the shirt
Plan b, color, zero thats the shit i skated back in the day...jamie thomas. Kris markovich. Danny way. Colin mckay. Rodney mullen. Sean sheffey. My heros when i skated.
It's the first part in a series. They have to talk about the Girl and he origins of Chocolate in order to tell the whole story. The stupidity in these comment sections is amazing.
Jerry is one of my fav skaters but wtf is his wife the editor for epicly laterd or something he's on sooo many episodes hes sick and i dont mind but damn man
Could vice make a video about Chocolate, the food? Don't worry you could visit some third-world hellhole and complain about the government not doing enough for the poor while ignoring it was the government involvement that was keeping people poor. Or something.
I'm very similar to Paulo in how he felt more natural in switch. I did martial arts from very young that taught me to lead with my left and therefore my left foot feels stronger, so I like to use my left foot to push and for popping (I would push in regular and then drop my left foot back to mongo and do all my tricks in switch as a kid. I used to incorporate my switching feet into tricks more and more though toward the mid 90's, like I'd do a 180 body varial and then do a flip trick. It just became how I skated. It fucked me up later in life though when I just wanna skate regular as pushing with my right feels weird, but also having my right on the front of the board feels weird. ha ha. I'm a fucking weird skater, man. never came across anyone with the same weird eccentricities as me.
I wonder if they even know that cacao or chocolate is one the most nutritious foods on the planet and talk about sensual pleasure in taste ehh, Pure bliss and ecstasy in a bean from a jungle tree!

They need to make some of their graphics from their decks onto shirts 👍🏾

The truth is that your were not getting any booty, so you got a Girl board in a last ditch effort to get laid.
Didn't know Chocolate's team was basically 80% hispanics.
That's pretty cool.
