  • In today's video, Paul from The Studio Rats is demoing his recording and video pedalboard.
    On the board is a Boss ES5, Kingtone Duellist, UA MAX, UA DelVerb and a tonex pedal from IK Multimedia.
    The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

    Great video Paul, as always. Love the tones and good to see that pedal combination in detailed action. But for me, the best thing is that darned Strat. I know as soon as anyone uses the word ‘relic’ it sets the dogs barking but to me it looks absolutely gorgeous. Keep up the great work!

    Really helpful. Thank you. I’m about to set up a Tonex One on my board. One question if I may? If you have the tonex before the reverb and then out, do you have to re-amp the signal before it hits the PA or can all reverbs and delays handle an amplified signal?

    Heh... you always seem to have what I'm looking for. In this case, I'm specifically wondering if I should switch my rig out to a Tonex w/Delverb into the new Fender 12" FRFR cabinet. But in my case using a BOSS MS3 for switching other pedals in/out. Love the tones you are getting!

    Killer small board. I would swap out the Duellist for a Protein, but other than that it’s perfect. I have almost all of those pedals on my board at home right now, and they’re all amazing.

    Dear Paul & the Studio Rats Team,
    Your Tonex videos have inspired me to decide to build my own tonex recording pedalboard. I will use Tonex, Strymon Riverside Overdrive, Boss WAZA Chorus, UA Del Verb, Boss MS-3, Tuner....Well, I am a newbie...and is there a way I could get some advice how to connect all those things to eachother, so the pedal chain plan? Many thanx

    If you were to go jam with friends with no PA system, would you use this board and bring a monitor or powered cab? Or use an entirely different rig? Still new to this stuff lol

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a really good question. I would probably take either a different rig which would comprise of an amp and a small board or I’d take a powered FRFR cab with this rig.

    Hi Paul, awesome explanation! im planning to get one ToneX to enjoy your presets pack. Could you please help me where the ToneX would sit better in my signal chain? So far according to my logic and your videos it would look like:
    input -> tuner -> compressor -> booster -> OD/Distortion -> Eq -> Tonex -> modulation -> delay -> reverb -> output
    Many thanks!

    What about adding the Bluguitar amp 1 to the pedalboard? In 4cm? Ms3, Amp 1, ToneX, Would it make sense? I Bought the Quad cortex long ago but still Prefer the amp 1 Mercury edition channels with the Ms3 setup.. So with the ToneX pedal its looks to me very appealing

    A bit limited for live purposes but perfect for recording!
    Can you make a video building a mini pedalboard using the Tonex and the Boss GT 1000 Core (you have one!), a small (or medium) midi foot controller, an expression pedal and 1 overdrive pedal?
    I’d like to know what you would choose.
    By the way, great video and amazing tones! Congrats!

    • @juliomedeirosmusic
      @juliomedeirosmusic 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maykolllopez1585 you can sound great with just 1 guitar straight to the amp, dude. Limitation doesn’t mean lack of quality (TONE).
      Did you hear any flanger, phaser, filter or tremolo in the dry signal? The UAD verb can add some fx but in the reverb itself… the delay too.
      So, as I said, for studio recording (where you can add FX in the post production) it’s perfect. But for some live situations (if the gig demands more different sounds) it’s limited.
      The overall sound is great… as always.
      Best regards!

    You really should try the Neunaber Audio Illumine reverb it's amazing and midi controlled ,very easy to deal with with great sounding presets. It's reverb magic in a box using 2 switches. Get the boss off your board and get a GigRig G3S Atom to replace it. Dan makes the best switcher in the world period! He also is a very cool dude with awesome customer service. I just preordered mine for April 20204. Iv'e used a G2 for years now, no issues at all.

    In a setup like this i just get so much hum. Just because of the single coils. Amp noise is fine depending on the gain, but the 60 cycle hum (which I guess it is) is just horrible. Any solution you use to avoid that or is there a gate on?

    Very cool video! I found out your channel a few weeks ago, and I really dig it! Interesting videos, cool presentation, cool sound! I just acquired a TONEX last week, didn't test it yet to be honest, but I will surely use it in a pedalboard. I wondered : do you use external D.I. at the output of the ToneX to connect to your soundcard or to a P.A.? because I read in the ToneX manual that it is advised to use DI for direct connections; I wonder why because with all my other preamps (LINE6 POD X3 PRO, HD500, AXE FX II, ..etc), I never used a DI for the direct connections, , as the outputs in the devices are built for that kind of usage.

    Hi, great video as always! I do a lot of guitar playing at home and I mainly play through a Boss Katana 50 mk2. But to add a little bit of diversity in tones, I was wondering to buy a Tonex Pedal to go in the power amp in of the Boss Katana. I already have some effects pedals that I could use together with the Tonex Pedal, so I do not need the build in effects on the Katana. Would you think tis is a great solution for home playing, or is the Tonex pedal in combination with the power amp in Katana not a good match? Thanks!

    • @ajmaxx1793
      @ajmaxx1793 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great. Changing the speaker to American or British type based on your the amp profiles you incline to will sound better than the stock Katana speaker especially for dirty tones. Also, go for DI amp profiles.

Have you ever tried the Boss CP-1X Compressor? Radically different to any of Boss’s previous compressors, sounds incredible, multi band compressor - criminally underrated! I like it as much as the Cali76 and other similar Comps. Would be great to see some compressor pedal comparisons in future maybe?
