so much respect for semien, from one of the worst defenders in the league to a gold glove candidate in 2019, good coaching only goes so far but marcus put in the work.
Ron Washington - he's my favorite dude, I just love watching him teach. Doesn't matter what team you love, if you love mechanics and baseball how can you not love him?
I have no idea how people aren't at least considering Ron for a manager. A's have Chapman, Semien, and Olson racking up awards, and they've developed into good hitters

The sox could have never used him. He was a utility guy - a pretty bad but usable shortstop, sometimes outfielder, sometimes second or first baseman. He wasn't that good until he went to Oakland, and at first (and second) he was a pretty awful shortstop. The A's developed him. Not only did it pay off, but now we have a shortstop who's easily worth 15$-20$ million dollars a year, for 6$ million dollars a year. He's an Oakland A, through and through.
Honestly, any high school baseball player should be able to field a ball from 7 feet away going 5 to 10 mph. This is easy and I don't see it being the most effective use of practice time. With all due respect to Mr. Washington, who is a great coach, but I think players should be taking ground balls at game speed. Exit velocity on a ground ball isn't 5 to 10 mph. It's 70, 80, 90+ mph. Practice taking lasers, not bunts basically.
He’s not teaching them how to field scorchers, he’s setting them up for those not so hard hit grounders to get their bodies in a strong throwing motion to get the out when it has potential to be a bang bang play.
well this is part of a much larger routine. Ron Washington's coaching approach teaches the player as if they were a master violinist - mastering the fundamentals, and drilling them beyond belief. Marcus has as such turned into a gold glove caliber shortstop - he can in 2nd last year, and achieved a 8.2 DRS, and a lot of that was cutting down on the amount of errors he made, but also getting to those lasers you mentioned. As a master violinist spends hours a day practicing his scales, a player should learn how to field the fundamentals.
Ron deserves some sort of award. Semiens defense has gone up dramatically this season.
rockwjz he got it
You had no idea how right you would be. Semien is literally an MVP caliber season right now. Its amazing how his glove got fixed
The Fielding Coach GOAT!
That man turned Eric Chavez into a 5 time golden glove winner. Real Jedi
so much respect for semien, from one of the worst defenders in the league to a gold glove candidate in 2019, good coaching only goes so far but marcus put in the work.
I need a coach like Ron.

He literally made Semien into the MVP caliber player he is now
Agreed, lets go A's!
mvp?
And World Series Champ. Semien’s defense has been on point this whole playoffs
im really happy as an A's fan that wash is back with the organization
Glad to have wash back in Oakland. With all the work he's done to improve semiens defense, I think the A's will do way better than last year
1:27 ... Every Single DAYY .. HAHA Wash is a legend !
Teaching! That’s key! You’re a Major Leaguer when you listen to men like Ron Washington.
Love the sound of the ball hitting the leather... Gives me goosebumps
Ron loves him some Harold Reynolds.
and i do to

so much respect for him.
+Carlo T It's incredibly hard.
+Terram Lucida Tela Concilium only if you make it hard
Tahj Cunningham It's a line from the movie Moneyball
Carlo T it's not easy for sure you don't play ss
COOL
sound like chris rock
why semien? he was the most error-driven SS last year
MrZDawgSwag Why do you underestimate black people?
Because he's improved immensely since his first and second year playing shortstop ever since ron wash helped him
also errors only happen when you can get to the ball. semien got to the ball
Semien was chosen for precisely that reason
Man i wish the sox never traded this guy

School of Wash
Church.
So glad we got rid of that guy as our manager
Well I’m not glad that you don’t using your brain, since Siemens was a really good manager. No wonder your probably racist
yet he still makes three errors in the first 4 games of the year
Teddy Stanghellini Lol like you can do any better? You didn't make it to the minor nor pros.
everything takes time padawan

End goal is for eye and hand coordination to react at balls hit at any speed. Can't deny that these drills helped earn Marcus the Gold Glove 👏👏👏
