    The "missing frequency" is very likely the sharp dip in the SM7Bs frequency response. This is inherent to the SM7B capsule and it showed up in all my response meaurements between 6 and 7 kHz. You should also see the behaviour with your unmodified SM7B. Great job on the design!

    I love how you’ve taken what was originally a mic review of the Beacn Mic, did the due diligence to back up your opinion, dealt with the controversy, and ON TOP of all that, literally BUILT a better version.
    Bravo!

    I think that spectral gap cooouuuld be reflections inside the mic body…. But it could also be something in their preamp.
    If only the dsp/usb end of their pcb was a separate board and you could use the preamp board from a better usb mic. (What about Shure’s from the mv7 usb? Haha!)
    Fun video!

  • @MixMeMcGee
    @MixMeMcGee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job doing a mod!!!
    The problem with the printed tube was that the tube blocked the *interference ports* coming in the back of the capsule :)
    Those are what give a dynamic mic it’s directionally (invented for this microphone! :))

    • @MixMeMcGee
      @MixMeMcGee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, that crunch could very well have to do with impedance matching of the sm7 capsule with the input of the circuit it’s being fed to.

  • @MMOStars
    @MMOStars 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great to see that works quite well. Last time I tried this project with a 30$ capsule, it had bad wires, this literally fell off, tried soldering, the heat killed the condenser diaphragm, so just a side note, replacing a condenser capsule and not a dynamic 1, might be a pure nightmare.

    What I've learned is that it doesn't matter what microphone you have in this day and age and that's all because of the filters on OBS that make your Microphone sound so so good. With all those filters available, you can have a $30 mic sound like a $300 mic. Still, a very cool video. Your mic sounding so good as is without processing is purely amazing. Nice work. The USB change alone make this project very worthwhile.

    • @EposVox
