You have to remember that in this timeline, Gohan never got any more training beyond what he received from Piccolo and the power boost from Namek. Then, every fighter he knew died. He grew up woefully inadequate to face the androids, so instead, focused largely on trying to save people rather than fighting the androids head on. I'm sure he tried to train himself in his spare time, but that can only do so much. I expect his strategy was to keep training himself in secret until he was powerful enough to defeat both of them, but that probably would've taken many more years.
Yeah the androids were just keeping Gohan around as he was the only one who was able to keep them entertained when it comes to combat. Gohan uses that opportunity to get some experience but not a lot of training since he usually ends up getting beat up. Which is useful for him for a zenkai boost specially when there isn't enough ways for him to full heal up every fight. This Gohan is not even comparable to the High School Gohan and definitely not the current Gohan who's smart, very experienced, and well trained. But he's got spirit and tries to save innocent people. While current Gohan is a lot of relaxed since he knows Goku and Vegita are there, he only really gets into fights if his family is in danger.
This kind of indirectly shows the intelligence and fight IQ that Goku had because he was the first one to figure out the perfect strategy to progress beyond a Super Saiyan, and he did this without any information or mentor. Shows how crucial he was for the future timeline. If he had not died, even without a warning from a future warrior, he would have been able to figure out the way to beat the Androids and then Cell
the fact that Gohan went from being a match 1v1 to almost being able to 2v1 from his Zenkai boost if he could've just controlled himself a bit longer and trained a bit more he probably could've won by himself

Man, I love this movie. The TFS guys did an amazing job at balancing tension/jokes in their version, but I'm sure you've already checked that out. Can't wait to start the "Black Arc" 😀🍿
I don't know if it's been discussed yet, but I really think that once you guys are done with super, you should go back to the 80s and watch the OG Dragon Ball. It's such a fun show and I think you'd both adore watching Goku grow up.
I know Gohan going after the Andriods alone wasn't the smartest idea. However, we should remember that Earth's dragon balls are gone in this timeline & they have no idea where New Namek is, meaning there's no bringing people back. Gohan knows that and wants to prevent as much casualties as possible. Even if he's playing "the long game" by training Trunks, he won't ignore any innocent people in need of help.
Fun Fact: Since Bethany said Trunks works as a redhead? In the spin-off timeline Dragon Ball Heroes (which mainly exists to sell what-if versions of the characters) Future Trunks does in fact become Super Sayan God. And yes, he is a redhead when using it.
Honestly seeing this made me really appreciate the abridged version. Those boys really know how to score a scene. Music in this is just super distracting
Gohan didn't learn Super Saiyan as early in this time line as he did in the 1 in ours Trunks also learns to be Super Saiyan as a lil kid in the Buu saga and Trunks had learned SS at 13 in this story than the last fight was 3 years later so he had been practicing for 3 years
The soundtrack is from the original japanese version, it's superb. To be honest I think the US is the only country where DBZ has a different soundtrack, not to diminish the music work of Bruce Faulconer his music is amazing
The androids are teens themselves, so they're reckless and don't pay that much attention on who they kill or don't sometimes lol. My theory may be that they over estimated themselves because gohan could've taken them on one at a time but they double teamed him. When they fought trunks they underestimated trunks and only 18 "finished" him off. Which i think 18 might be the weaker of the two. So that's why I think trunks was able to survive.
Trunks survived out of sheer luck. In think the DLC for DBZ Kakarot did a better job showing how Trunks survived, with the Androids simply walking away after Trunks lost consciousness. They spared Trunks because he was the only one capable of challenging them, they kept him as “entertainment”. It was the same reason why they’d let Gohan escape until they got bored of him.
2 things that make this the saddest DBZ movie of all time, there are no Dragon balls in this reality and Trunks can't change the current reality he's in even if he uses the time machine everyone is dead and there is no changing that.
I would really recommend reacting to all the cutscenes (or at least the cinematic cutscenes) to dragon ball z kakarot, or just the history of trunks dlc since it’s shorter. It gives a lot of respect to the original series, definitely worthwhile
I think Trunks was able to survive while Gohan wasn't because there was an arm of difference between the two... All jokes aside though, he's Vegeta's son. Having watched the Buu saga, when he was buying Goku time for the spirit bomb, you both know how much of a beating that man can take. Probably runs in the family.
Somthing to note, alot of the movies dubs had different music. The music you are hearing is the original music but the Credits has such artists as "Bootsy Colin and BucketHead" or "Dream theatre" these are proper bands and you may know Dream Theatre and so its wild to hear such bands playing during Dragon ball movies, also Bootsy Colin is an old 70s funk artist which got his own radio channel on GTA 5 with a few of his song on there.
If y’all watching the real versions of DBZ Movies, I would recommend watching the original Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan. To know Broly was more than just saying “Kakorot” than in the Second Movie
Rewatching this story was an intresting paralell to the presnt time gohan. Future gohan lost to the androids with both hands and one hand. Present gohan as super sayian 2 beat perfect cell with two hands and one hand.
Best guess is that maybe Age Difference might be a thing on how much Punishment & Beatings Half Saiyans can take or handle to an extent. Just a random guess.
In this special, they really made it seem like Gohan could 1v1 a single twin and he only got overwhelmed when both fought in sync. He did overpower BOTH of them in a beam struggle. On the other hand, his manga counterpart went out like a punk and died off panel right after 17 told him he wasn't even using half of his power in their previous encounter. Gohan said he trained so he won't be beat, meaning he's stronger than his two armed self, but still, that's a lot of work for one arm. Heck, in the manga, Gohan said that he wears his father's clothes with hopes it would make him as strong as him, but its not that easy, implying that Gohan wasn't even as strong as Goku when he came back home after Trunks killed Mecha Frieza. Bulma said Trunks wasn't amazingly different from Gohan, putting Trunks just marginally above him. Gohan was a Super Saiyan for 13 years, but since he had no training partners or knew about the time chamber, his power did not grow that much. When Gohan asked "What would your father do?" I thought: He would give the senzu bean to his enemy to make it fair 😅... which was the right call in that situation because if an exhausted Cell fought Gohan, he might've gotten desperate and powered up to 100% and killed him before Gohan could unleash Super Saiyan 2.
Trunks didnt fought 17 and 18 right after getting Super Saiyan, it was implied that at least 2 years passed, Trunks was training during that time, at least in japanese and latin spanish Bulma said that Trunks was stronger than Gohan but not that much
I feel like Bethany needs an explanation on how certain aspects of the power system works. So buckle up. The super saiyan transformation (SSJ1) is a 50× multiplier of base form/their normal form. Therefore the stronger you are in base form, the more power there is to be multiplied. As you saw in the Buu saga, Trunks was born with more potential than Gohan (side note: half breed saiyans have more potential than full blooded saiyans). So obviously Trunks would probably get stronger in less time. Not to mention the fact that Gohan had to Train himself since everyone died when he was 10, however in the new Timeline(the one we follow into Dragon Ball Super) Gohan was trained by Goku for a total of 4 years and was able to go from 3rd form frieza level to being the strongest character at the end of Cell Saga. And this also applies to Trunks because when training Vegeta he went from getting dog walked by the androids in his time (who are weaker than the ones that the main cast have to face) to Being stronger than Cell's 2nd form. So yes Trunks was indeed Stronger than Gohan, he was trained by Gohan Therefore he got stronger in his base form faster.
Tbh, now that you've been watching more modernly dubbed Dragon Ball content like Kai and Super, specials and movies like these would be more sensible to watch subbed in Japanese, since these were dubbed at a time when FUNi wasn't dubbing things as accurately as they have since Kai--you at least get the gist, but they do add unneeded dialogue/fluff and some lines get changed up. It is cool they did put this out with the original score, though odd they didn't include Cha-la for the opening... (likely legal issues as mentioned) Looking forward to watching this subbed in my Japanese rewatch, since I haven't seen it in ages and I do have the DBZA version stuck in my head, lmao. That said, this special was always cool for establishing Trunks's backstory before he goes back to warn everyone of what he's seen, and it also definitely helps offer background for the next Super arc. Fun watch!
This is why not a fan of any fan service abridge stuff. Its funny to some people but I do think it takes away from original if this is first time experiencing. Dragon Ball Z is know for 3 things, fun fighting, epic moments and sad moments. Because every fight is still treated seriously, the fact that Goku is killed in 2nd episode sets the tone. And the main villain Piccolo at time is still standing is actually pretty rare and cool. It eventually becomes meta around Buu Saga but before that it wasn't treated as campy. I don't think abridge stuff is bad even if I am not fan but do think for original source to get most out of both is watching OG than appreciating silly stuff after.
To answer the Gohan and Trunks power difference, it’s probably because Gohan was forced to appear strong to not make anyone lose hope hurting his strength over all. Also Trunks had 3 years to master super Saiyan Also also I love your vids 💕
this really makes you think how things would have gone if they teamed up in main timeline too, maybe krilin would have survived, even thou i think he'd have fought too if everyone was dying, like in trunks timeline. So only goku alive (or maybe not, he survived thanks to piccolo fighting them
A few points to make here: Super Saiyan Gohan was arguably stronger than Super Saiyan Trunks, but Trunks didn't face the Androids until 3 years after he first transformed. Relatively speaking, Trunks was more prepared in fighting the Androids than Gohan, as he trained under Gohan and potentially self-trained for 3 years while Gohan had only self-trained since Goku's death. Plot is the only explanation for how Trunks survived that last attack, though. No other explanation was given.😂
The problem with trunks in dbs is that he relias on others to help him meanwhile dbz trunks always pushed him self to the edge and a lot of people say they mascard trunks in dbs but I think is that the resources on future trunks timeline are so limited that they are eating cat food when you workout a lot you need a lot of calories to balance out the body but trunks doesn't have that much water or food supply 😢so he can't be buff so it makes sense thear is a dark fact of the future timeline that says when future Gohan was around humanity still remanded but when he died the amount of population that was wiped out was a lot future Gohan was always fighting them not letting them kill more people and the reason trunks was crying at the end of super was that he knew that his death ment nothing and he is still a wekling and he has not approved
i guess trunks survived, first because he is younger, and second, his psychological wear and tear for years as Gohan has been fighting non-stop, and always losing for many years, that wears you down psychologically, plus Gohan is someone who likes to be quiet and study, he doesn't have a fighter's mind like Goku, that makes that the training that Gohan was doing, did not make so much effect, instead trunks fights because he wants to protect people, that is his fuel and his mentality, that helps him to train and be focused, Gohan wants to destroy the androids did not know how, and that also made his super Saiyan was stagnant and could not increase its power.
Just wondering if you would be interested in watching regular Dragonball once you are done with super. It could be like watching a prequel (even though it came out first)
Why do i think that future Gohan death scream semplice that he wasn't tough at all 😢 meaning he was weak because 18 say's hes tough he probably wouldn't yell
Yeah I didn’t understand how they couldn’t just have king Kai communicate with Gohan thru with Goku and have Bulma build a space machine with her dad or something and have trunks and gohan travel to find New Namek and ask them to use the dragons ball to wish Piccolo back again at least then have them wished vegeta back also and have them trained in New Namek or something and rewrite history except it’ll take to long I guess and Toriyama just likes this timeline and making trunks return from the future to the dbz main timeline and give Goku and the other z fighters the heads up but it would be a pretty cool story for another timeline but like I said the dragon ball team probably doesn’t want to spend money and time making that storyline even tho it would be cool to see!
17 and 18 were robbed of humanity, that's why they "hate humans". Goku was dead already so they didn't have anything else to do unlike the present ones that hunted him down while he was sick, that's why they started to attack humans. Plus they didn't have 16 to influence them into loving humanity
While this was the darkest Dragon Ball has ever gotten, I'd say Z always had a serious air to it with some comedy here & there. While the Buu Saga was pretty comedic compared to the other arcs, I still wouldn't call it light-hearted with all the genocide, mass destruction, and brutality Buu has committed.
Trunks going back in time changed a lot of things including 17 and 18. The main timeline versions of 17 and 18 are a lot more likable. Even when they were messing around and planning to kill goku they never killed a single person. When the z fighters attacked them, they didn't kill a single one of them while they easily could have. The only one standing at the end was krillin after all. Sure they scared a few people and stole some things, but they never killed. That's a big difference with the androids in here. These androids have lost their humanity completely. In this timeline gero didn't invent 19 nor did he turn himself into an android. There is also no sign of 16 anywhere. I've always assumed the reason they're so evil is because Gero instead put all his effort into 17 and 18, making them lose their morality completely. Anyway, I love this part of dragon ball z. It's very different from the rest, but that just makes it more interesting.
Fun fact: The History of Trunks itself is actually filled with a massive plotholes otherwise the story wouldn't work. 1. Goku's illness could have been wished away. A magical Dragon that is capable of resurrecting people from the dead surely could have cured an illness. 2. While Goku couldn't be wished back due to dying of natural causes the same isn't true for the other Z-Fighters. King Kai could have contacted New Namek and also Trunks or Gohan while he was still alive to let him know of his plan to use the Namekian Dragonballs.
Yea like I know you guys saw adbridge even tho some of it is kinda true to the story it being funny 👀😂 but yea watch like the original for it cause Kai’s cool but original anime and the movies with some badass songs make it so much better but that’s just me 😂😂😂

I miss Mr. Piccollo in Gohans head here. It makes so much more fun and sense in the Abridged version.
Honestly seeing this made me really appreciate the abridged version. Those boys really know how to score a scene. Music in this is just super distracting
Gohan didn't learn Super Saiyan as early in this time line as he did in the 1 in ours Trunks also learns to be Super Saiyan as a lil kid in the Buu saga and Trunks had learned SS at 13 in this story than the last fight was 3 years later so he had been practicing for 3 years
You guys should check out the kakorot cutscenes if you haven’t already
So yeah future trunks time will have a bit of serious tone in super.
what a great suprise reaction I love this tv special
The soundtrack is from the original japanese version, it's superb. To be honest I think the US is the only country where DBZ has a different soundtrack, not to diminish the music work of Bruce Faulconer his music is amazing
I think I watched your reaction twice. It was good both times.
11:20
Give it to the androids for a fair fight, obviously ;)
16:23 he got mixed by the androidzs!
You guys missed out on an epic soundtrack by not watching the Funimation dub.
They did watch the Funi version. But due to licensing issues. You can't get Faulconer music unless you have a home release or watch from illegal sites
I think the androids wouldn't have been evil if they had android 16 🟢 🤖...
You guys had me so confused. I thought this was a re-upload of the abridged version lol
After DBZA I can’t take the voices seriously. This however is one of my favourites
Plus the final battle between gohan and 17 and 18 is way better
@@LAA_197I agree 100%
I'm going to pop in my copy of Kakarot, load up the History of Trunks DLC and give them a good thrashing again with MAX lvl Trunks. just for you guys.
Why di you watch the Bruce Falconer version? That trunks transformation has one of the best music from the whole series in the Bruce Falconer version.
I just realized that 18 has the jacket to Android 13's trucker hat. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, DOH!
Oh, it’s the dub where kid Gohan is a pack a day smoker…. My favorite 😊
Kid Gohan was never that.
More like old Frieza.
Also this Gohan is much better than the whiny annoying sounding kid Gohan in Kai.
@@TheRealRahstar I did say it was my favorite!
@@MarisuSedai I know. I just don't agree that this Gohan sounded like a smoker
People should react to the original first
In this special, they really made it seem like Gohan could 1v1 a single twin and he only got overwhelmed when both fought in sync.
I would have died if Trunks hadn't asked why Gohan went alone but why he didn't dodge.
Fun watch!
I really wish you watched the other version. Imo the music is way better especially the part when trunks sees gohan dead.
Also Trunks had 3 years to master super Saiyan
Also also I love your vids 💕
Watch the Bardock movie
this really makes you think how things would have gone if they teamed up in main timeline too, maybe krilin would have survived, even thou i think he'd have fought too if everyone was dying, like in trunks timeline.
Ooooo o o o I SO wanted you two to watch this❣️
Meh wrong OST.
Just wondering if you would be interested in watching regular Dragonball once you are done with super. It could be like watching a prequel (even though it came out first)
Gohan was too big of a threat to the Androids so they went full power and teamed up on him. Trunks they just played with him
Just want to know, will you continue the DBS reactions ? :O It's the best arc soon (if you can skip fillers as well xD)
You should watch all of Z! It hits different than just the abridged.
Y'all should check out Miles Morales vs Static Shock on Death Battle
Edit: Y'all should also check out Red Hood vs Winter Soldier Deathbattle
Why do i think that future Gohan death scream semplice that he wasn't tough at all 😢 meaning he was weak because 18 say's hes tough he probably wouldn't yell
Yeah I didn’t understand how they couldn’t just have king Kai communicate with Gohan thru with Goku and have Bulma build a space machine with her dad or something and have trunks and gohan travel to find New Namek and ask them to use the dragons ball to wish Piccolo back again at least then have them wished vegeta back also and have them trained in New Namek or something and rewrite history except it’ll take to long I guess and Toriyama just likes this timeline and making trunks return from the future to the dbz main timeline and give Goku and the other z fighters the heads up but it would be a pretty cool story for another timeline but like I said the dragon ball team probably doesn’t want to spend money and time making that storyline even tho it would be cool to see!
you should react to Dragon Ball Z the original version
You should try the fan live action movie. That’s well made
I think its time for DEFINITELY NOT DEFINITIVE to see Goku bury Vegeta along with the Frieza fight
*UNABRIDGED*
There’s a new episode of helluva boss
Bulma's first funimation voice actress is so much better then her current one.
For sure
Meredith McCoy is great as Android 18
She sounds so flat and expressionless though.
It would have been perfect if when 18 said "you wouldn't hit a lady, would you"? Trunks said "no" and punched her.
Are you guys gonna watch the rest of the dbz with Bruce Faulconers music. Because there definitely worth it and makes all the movies 10x better.
Yeah the Japanese soundtrack just doesn't cut it.
17 and 18 were robbed of humanity, that's why they "hate humans". Goku was dead already so they didn't have anything else to do unlike the present ones that hunted him down while he was sick, that's why they started to attack humans. Plus they didn't have 16 to influence them into loving humanity
That is... Very very OLD Eng Dub ! 😂
Nooo….😂😂
Darn. I almost how many darn Darns the original darn Z dub had. Darn.
King Kai could have contacted New Namek and also Trunks or Gohan while he was still alive to let him know of his plan to use the Namekian Dragonballs.
i wish they were watching the dbz american version of this movie better soundtracks
U should have watched it with the US music. Gohans death hits sooo much harder with it
no
yes
Yea like I know you guys saw adbridge even tho some of it is kinda true to the story it being funny 👀😂 but yea watch like the original for it cause Kai’s cool but original anime and the movies with some badass songs make it so much better but that’s just me 😂😂😂
Seeing this as an spanish speaker is painful they change so much on hte english DUB DEAR GOOD but at least the death was well done
Most dubs nowadays try not to change so much anymore
Super does not compare to this.
Damn not use to this sound track. Sounds like a completely different movie. Dream Theater goes much better with it. 😅😅😅
Definitely watch more moments from z. Abridged is awesome but the original can’t be beat.
