Cooked my first ever whole chicken tonight this way in the Webber2200. I didn't have Za'atar, but used BBQ Rub and All purpose spice and put crushed garlic in the olive oil rub. It was the best Whole chicken I have ever had (way better than BBQ Chickens from the supermarket), Thanks.

Thanks Thomas. I'm a charcoal guy too, but my current apartment situation makes charcoal impossible so I'm "getting by" with the Weber Q. So glad I got this little grill. And yes, it makes a killer roast chicken!
Dear fire escape griller. Just made the whole chicken on my webber Q1200 just like you suggested. Perfect!!!!! Thanks for the nice recipies. I am a fan. Jack, from the Netherlands
You're very welcome, Jacques. I've been to Maastricht and, of course, Amsterdam. Very cool cities in a great country. Love the Netherlands. Thank you for watching!
Hi there. I’ve been reproducing your chicken recipe now for about 8 months. It’s by far the tastiest, juiciest chicken any of my guests have had. Thank you for the ideas and keep up the excellent content.
Weber Q roast chicken, fabulous with the Za-atar seasoning, local asparagus and corn on the cob grilled with new baby potatoes, sensational. Washed down with a couple of brewdog IPA (available world wide I believe) enjoyed on the patio in very sunny Scotland would you believe!
Great job. I like to mix the salt pepper and any other seasonings with the oil first, then rub it in with my hand. Any left over oil can be basted on part way through the cooking.

Really enjoying your videos and getting more ideas for my q1200. My secret baste for veggies direct grilled (like asparagus, corn on the cob, squash, carrots) is italian dressing (full fat version).
Thanks for your video. I have a couple weber kettles, a go anywhere and im honestly a charcoal man, but got a q1200 for xmas and have to say, im very impressed with the little unit, mind you ive got to get used to using gas too now lol. Your videos are very informative, keep up the good work. Thanks again from Melbourne, Australia 😉
I don't have a built in thermometer on my weber and I don't have a temp probe; do you have a rough idea on where to set the gas/flame to maintain 350 degrees?
How large was the chicken you used? Thanks. I haven’t done a chicken yet on my q1200 but want to know what is approximately the largest size chicken that can be used.
I prefer smaller 4 lb organic chickens. Non-organic chickens tend to be larger, about 5-6 lbs. Big chickens seem a bit odd to me though. Are chickens really supposed to be that big? Not sure I trust all those growth hormones, so I stick to the smaller ones. But if you're feeding a big family, it can all come down to cost savings. I think a big chicken can fit in your Q1200, either way.
Was the total cook time 1.5 hours? I usually spatchcock my bird for faster cooking, how would you say this compares? I kind of want to do a whole bird just to get full use of the roasting pack
Looks great. I have the larger 2 burner Q and did not think about roasting so thanks. I would like to suggest giving settings and temperatures for the grill in future videos.
That is a weber roasting rack that they no longer make available for the US market. I have a video on workarounds, but you can use the rack for a toaster oven, placed on a double layer of tin foil. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/Zb-hhxiRWFo/w-d-xo.html
Just recently purchased my Weber Q 2200. After a few warm-up grill sessions with sausages et all, I thought I’d try something new and looked for a grilled chicken recipe. Had all my accessories and ingredients (including Za'Atar) lined up - and of course my family was anxiously awaiting the results. So after a bit over an hour, what can I say: they love me even more! Delicious, simple, and just right for my Weber. Might just go for wings and legs next time; should be finished even quicker. Thanks for the inspiration! PS: since I’m originally from Brooklyn, this recipe was like a homecoming! Best regards, Russell (Hamburg, Germany)
Love what you're doing here... real, honest cooking! I'm glad you used a thermometer in this one. I was almost screaming in your other videos, "use a thermometer!" Grab a good digital thermo like a Thermapen (though they're a little pricey, Taylor makes a good, inexpensive one too). Cheers from Rochester, NY. Keep up the fun & creative work!
The roasting rack and shield are no longer sold by Weber in the U.S. This video here will show you some workarounds: th-cam.com/video/Zb-hhxiRWFo/w-d-xo.html
Just wanna let you know that I subscribe to your channel after watching this video, not only that but I went out and bought the Weber q 1200 after watching you video! I also cooked a whole chicken I did a lemon pepper chicken it was awesome!!! Thanks for the inspection. Jose from Texas.
Nice video, I also have a Q1200 (along with several other Weber BBQs). I bought the rotisserie set for mine and you can roast a chicken and other joints of meat (boned legs of lamb, rolled loin of pork etc) without the need for the rack and shield. Keep up the good work, I love seeing the Q1200 being put through its paces by you. Not many other channels feature this grill.
I used to stuff slices of garlic underneath the skin all over the chicken. Have you tried doing that? Also, have you tried putting cheese under the skin as well?
Hello CEG. First time tried this cook. Termometer showed 80 celsius, so I finished the cook 12 min earlier. Some spots inside were a bit pinkish. Just a smidge. Next time i will follow the pound x20 min to te second. Thank you
Great video. I bought my sister the smaller Weber Q several years ago and now wish I'd opted for this one instead. Thanks for the information on the seasoning.
I liked your way, very simple, straightforward with minimum herbs. Why have you put lemon inside the chicken? If I want to use charcoal do I need to add more charcol after an hour?
Thank you, Saad. As the lemon heats up, it releases steam to keep the chicken breast moist from the inside. With a charcoal grill, yes you should add 5 or 6 charcoal brickets every hour or so.
Love your video, just bought theQ2200, but Weber discontinued both the roasting rack and roasting shield. I bought a third party roast rack and use the Kingsford grilling shields foils ,it has the perforated slits . Complained to Weber , but no advice on replacements. Tried locating on Amazon all out of stock. Just to give a heads up on any one who can't find the accessories, just buy a different make. Love your videos , looking forward to more.
I'll make a vid addressing this issue soon. But yes, Weber discontinued these products. I may have unknowingly gotten the last ones in stock. Glad you found a work around because a roasting rack really opens up the possibilities. Thank you, Elainr!
I found them both in stock on Amazon. Last checked it was 5 left for the shield and 2 left for the rack. Both large format for the 2000 series. Maybe check back more often as they sell out quick it seems.
Mine is the original baby q. Similar to 1000. Dome lid is not high enough to do whole chicken on roasting rack. But you can bake with it. Biscuits , cornbread, etc.
Looks wonderful, I will have to do a search to find that herb, never cooked a whole chicken on my Q, gotta get that roasting rack...good job as usual City.
Just saw you're Short Ribs in the slow cooker, I have done them that way...but the herb provence is a great Idea, I use it on prime rib, do you make your own demi glaze?
Australia. Seriously, Weber doesn't make it available in the U.S. anymore. You can find a similar roasting rack. This video will help: th-cam.com/video/Zb-hhxiRWFo/w-d-xo.html
Hi there. Loved your video! Thanks for sharing. I'm considering a Weber Q2200 for my small deck in the city. I'm in Montréal, Canada, so a warm hello from up north :) Do you think the Q2200 is worth the extra $$$ over the 1200 series? I used to live in the burbs and I had some serious barbecuing power there (Weber charcoal kettle, big propane grill...) so I want a small machine but that can handle a lot. All the best!
Hello Canada! I've never tried the 2200, but it looks like the same grill as the 1200, just bigger. For an extra $50, if you have the space, I'd go for the bigger grill, especially if you're going to have parties. The 1200 is great though for my small family. And it's easier to take on the road. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your reply. Your recipes are amazing! Indeed the 2200 is bigger. I don't need so much space though. But I noticed the 2200 had a 12,000 btu/hour rating vs. 8,500 btu for the 1200 so I was wondering if that meant a greater searing power, but you seem to cook pretty much anything fast on the 1200... Plus the 2200 is $70 more in Canada (thanks to our weak dollar haha).
Frederic Augustin I am asking myself the same thing. Q1200 vs Q2200. The Q2200 is 30% bigger, and probably that’s why it needs 30% more gas power. After watching this channel I am more inclined to a Q1200. (and use an older charcoal for parties). On the other hand, will I ever take it someplace else? Probably not. Did you go for the baby Q or the medium Q?
Just found your channel searching for indirect grilling on the Weber Q. The chicken looks fabulous! Do you think an onion would work in place of the lemon? Is the lemon primarily for moisture? Keep up the good work, great videos of wonderful food!
Having watched everything you have cooked on this BBQ, I see no reason why you couldnt cook a full roast dinner!! It looks a very capable little bbq to me!! Damned expensive here in the uk tho!!
It's a great little grill. It's $200 US here in the States. Being that I live in the city, it's really one of my only options. Thank you for watching in the UK!
$200!! The 2200 is nearly £500 here....that nearly $650!! Wowsers!! Either way the recipes are fantastic and plan to try them eventually!! Maybe my cousin can buy me one and bring it over in Sept....He lives in NY!!
Wow! It's a great grill, but that price is outrageous. Maybe they're cheaper in the Netherlands. I have a fair amount of people watching over there. Good luck getting one in the UK.
Sorry to read Weber has discontinued the roasting rack and shield. I bought a Q 2200 a year ago because our condo does not permit charcoal. I used to be good with ribs but have found the propane indirect grilling a real challenge. I am sorry Weber has chosen not to support their products. Thank god for the Fire Escape Griller. Kona Bob
Thank you, Kona Bob! It's definitely strange that Weber discontinued the rack and shield. Check out this video if you haven't already: th-cam.com/video/Zb-hhxiRWFo/w-d-xo.html
I can still get them in Australia. You can make a substitute shield with a few layers of aluminium foil (you need to poke a few holes to slow the heat through). Maybe a large cake cooling rack could substitute for the roasting rack? Regards, Peter
Hello my American friend. We too have a Webber q 3200. Your tips are excellent, so thank you for making my cooking go from great to amazing...........From The land Downunder
That's very interesting. I love it on chicken and even sprinkle it over roast sweet potatoes and root vegetables. It's delicious. Never tried it on sweets or pastries, but I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
Making this right now for Christmas dinner with a lemon inside, zataar and olive oil on the skin and garlic stuck into holes in the chicken. As for Beirut, I lived their for ten years as a kid, one of the best places to grow up in the world. Zataar on manaeesh, straight from a village bakery. Nothing better.
Manish I haven't tried the Q1000. If you're considering which one to buy, I'd go with the Q1200. The electronic ignition, side tables, and built-in thermometer make it worth the extra $30. And you can definitely roast a chicken. Thanks for watching!
Buy a 5 pack of foil roasting trays . Cut corners so it lays flat . place on top of rack and pierce foil with knife . Home made , way cheaper , and works fine .

what setting on the gas knob are you using?

The Q is an impressive little grill. I roasted a 9-lb pork loin this past weekend. Fantastic!

Medium-Low. Roast chicken at 375 degrees F.

You could always use a cake cooling rake and peirce a foil sheet , works just as well
No seasoning inside the chicken? What is the name, again, of the eastern seasoning?
It's called za'atar. You can find it at Whole Foods. Cheers!
Followed this recipe in Montreal with my new Q, amazing results.
That's great, Philip! Thanks for watching up North.
Do you think it's possible to do the same with a electric version, for example the Q140?
DOSE of Poetry I've never tried the Q140, but seems like it should work. I'd say go for it.
Nice work. We do the same on the back of our boat. It drives the other boaties crazy with the smell.
Mine is the original baby q. Similar to 1000. Dome lid is not high enough to do whole chicken on roasting rack. But you can bake with it. Biscuits , cornbread, etc.
Nice. Q1000 is a great grill. I'm looking at 2200s on FB Marketplace. Hoping to pick one up used at a good price.
Looks wonderful, I will have to do a search to find that herb, never cooked a whole chicken on my Q, gotta get that roasting rack...good job as usual City.
You
The Za'atar seasoning is very good. You will love it on chicken. Cheers Jerry!
Just saw you're Short Ribs in the slow cooker, I have done them that way...but the herb provence is a great Idea, I use it on prime rib, do you make your own demi glaze?
Where can I buy the rack you place it on?
Australia. Seriously, Weber doesn't make it available in the U.S. anymore. You can find a similar roasting rack. This video will help:
th-cam.com/video/Zb-hhxiRWFo/w-d-xo.html
I cannot see the roasting tray link
Weber no longer makes the roasting tray available in the US. You can substitute with a double layer of tin foil.
Where do they sell the guitar powder?
Za'atar can be found in Whole Foods in the spices section
From NYC on a fire escape is epic.
Thanks Michael! Really appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
Hi there. Loved your video! Thanks for sharing. I'm considering a Weber Q2200 for my small deck in the city. I'm in Montréal, Canada, so a warm hello from up north :)
Do you think the Q2200 is worth the extra $$$ over the 1200 series?
Did you go for the baby Q or the medium Q?
indirect grilling with weberq2200 single burner gas grill?
You just need a roasting rack and some aluminum foil. Thanks for watching, Tom!
Just found your channel searching for indirect grilling on the Weber Q. The chicken looks fabulous! Do you think an onion would work in place of the lemon? Is the lemon primarily for moisture? Keep up the good work, great videos of wonderful food!
Yes, the steam from the lemon helps keep the breast moist. An onion would have the same effect. Glad you found the channel. More vids on the way.
Is that on medium gas setting ?
Yes, you want to roast a chicken at around 375º F
great video!!
Thank you!!
Everyone looking at the grill and the chicken
Im here 😍 what kinda watch you wearing
It's an Orient Mako USA II. Cheers!
Wow I'm seriously impressed by that little grill, and your skills too ofcourse
Andrew Ahn It is a great grill, and thank you for watching!
Excellent recipe, tastiest chicken ever.
Thank you. That za'atar seasoning is one of the best kept secrets. Cheers PJ!
Check out this video if you haven't already:

Still being made in Australia purchase them for Christmas possible to get from eBay from here.
I can still get them in Australia. You can make a substitute shield with a few layers of aluminium foil (you need to poke a few holes to slow the heat through). Maybe a large cake cooling rack could substitute for the roasting rack? Regards, Peter
It doesn’t have to be a Weber rack; be resourceful.
great video, I do it just the same on the Q1000 and the result is incredible good :-) greetings from Austria, the home of Grünen Veltliner
One of my best vacations was to Vienna. A beautiful city indeed.
That chicken looks awesome! That bottle of wine should have been cracked at the beginning of the cook! 😜
Hello my American friend. We too have a Webber q 3200. Your tips are excellent, so thank you for making my cooking go from great to amazing...........From The land Downunder
Thank you Anzac Day for the kind words. Keep on grilling!
Just bought this weber for camping. Chicken looks great
You're going to love it, Anthony! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
Have to try this, look fantastic
It's pretty fun, and the chicken comes out great. Cheers Morten!
'hey look everyone, it's a chicken!' :)
Is this an electric or gas grill
The Weber Q1200 is a gas grill. Thank you for watching, Stacy.
Nice grilling, but Za'atr is something we add to sweets and pastries. There are other herbs for cooking meat.
That's very interesting. I love it on chicken and even sprinkle it over roast sweet potatoes and root vegetables. It's delicious. Never tried it on sweets or pastries, but I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
I'm going to try this one! Thank you 👍
Give the za'atar seasoning a shot if you haven't already. It's so good!
Thanks! I cooked the whole chicken and tasted so good.
Yes, this little grill can roast a great chicken. Cheers Steve!
Pans and rack available at barbecue brothers online. Weber no longer offers these
Nice watch too!
Thank you. I thought about starting a watch channel a few years back. But watches are too damn expensive. Cheers!
That looked so nice
It was! I highly recommend za'atar seasoning.
Awesome video, I’m subscribing and buying a grill 👍🏼
Thanks ReggaeRon! Good luck with the new grill.
I have the same plates. ✌🏽
Nice! Enjoy.
What's up New York!
Greetings from South Lebanon, where wild Zaatar grows at my backyard!
Come visit, I promise we'll not shoot 😂
Lol! I love that Za'atar and use it all the time especially this time of year when I'm roasting chicken and root vegetables a lot. Cheers Buddy!
@@chrishewitt9721 oh the nostalgia man.. Good memories..
Merry Christmas to you and to all :)
Love your channel! Any way you can do ribs?
Thank you, sir! I haven't tried ribs on this grill yet. Now that I have the roasting rack I might give it a shot
Great video, looks amazing.
Thanks Paul. Appreciate you watching.
Do you know if Weber Q 1000 has enough height to roast a whole chicken ?
Manish I haven't tried the Q1000. If you're considering which one to buy, I'd go with the Q1200. The electronic ignition, side tables, and built-in thermometer make it worth the extra $30. And you can definitely roast a chicken. Thanks for watching!
Grüner Veltliner, Wohoo!!!
One of my favorite white wines for sure.
great great chanel i am sold in the weber q
It's a great little grill for a small family and for taking on the road. Thanks for watching!
Anyone know what size those tin-foil trays are?
Buy a 5 pack of foil roasting trays . Cut corners so it lays flat . place on top of rack and pierce foil with knife . Home made , way cheaper , and works fine .
Anyone tried baking pies on a Weber Q?
I have not baked a pie in mine, but should be pretty easy with a roasting rack and shield. Cheers!
Can two whole chickens fit in here?
Jeschitown maybe if they’re small. I haven’t tried. Two Cornish game hens though would be perfect
