Wouldn't this technically be in the key of Em? Also noob question but how is the B7 chord in the key of G/Em when it has the D# note that does not belong in the key? Nice job btw.
+Joe S Yeppers - Key of G Major is the key of Em Minor as well..... the B7 is the V7 chord that points to Em ;) If you're thinking key of G (G Am Bm C D Em F#dim) its the 5 of 6 and if you're thinking key of Em its the 5 chord. Hope that helps.... maybe I should have marked it in the key of Em.... but its all the same notes... the D# just helps point back to the E note in the key. Best of luck and thanks for watching! +MunsonGuitarSongs Thank you. I think I understand. Well, I understand most of it. But because the D# note is not technically in the key of E minor, it's a bit confusing. Is it safe to say that the song steps outside of the strict key of E minor when hitting the D7 chord? Possibly going to harmonic minor for that one chord to help resolve back to Em? Thanks for the help.
+Joe S Yeppers ;) The B7 to Em happens so much in the harmony (chords) that if you make a G Major Scale with a D# startingfrom E... E F# G A B C D# E it's called harmonic minor and might be cool to jam over the changes ;) ;) Especially over the B7 Em change....
i used to have the same dilemma with wanting to stay strictly in a scale. allowing the scales to fluctuate (without me knowing the correct terminology) can give a song a richer character. often seen in a chorus that transposes to a higher key, or even (oddly) switching straight from a major to minor of the same chord. check out CREEP by radio head for example. from C to Cm. gives an interesting twist. good to learn the rules, but then learn how to bend the rules. ;)
Def you can solo from very general to more specific.... for this tune Em pentatonic would work for the changes, but so would G Major, but when you hit that B7 you may want to add the D# to the scale making it an e harmonic minor.... yeppers... gotta play it the way you feel it...

Does the song have classical notes?
