Agreed man. I was 16 or 17 when I first watched this. 29 now, this year I'm gonna be 30. I was also blown away that I learned the lydian part that the first Steve plays at the beginning. Beautiful!

@@justanotheranhedonicguy5132 Crazy how fast time flies right!? Haha I've been meaning to do that for so long but I forgot. Have you ever seen the video of him playing the Jem with 3 guitar necks at G3? He actually plays the exact same melody with the clean channel as part of a song! Definitely check it out if you've not!

I just can't help feeling that while the rest of us are struggling to bring our genius to the surface, he's struggling to keep his genius close enough to the ground where we can still understand it enough to enjoy it.

Always pushing to be creative in new ways with everything he does, and this video is perfect example.
Heck of an entertaining piece to self promote, self deprecate, demonstrate the nuts out of a new product and make it funny all at same time. I bet the editing was quite the technical task to boot!

I've got a bunch of concert recordings of Mahavishnu from between 1972 and 1975 and there is some stuff that's on these recordings that just flat out unreal in how McLaughlin played. A lot of it isn't on TH-cam or released albums. Fast? Depending on the gig, they would sometimes kick up the tempo to unreal levels that was mind blowing. He didn't rely too much on trick playing, no real gimmicks being used, but he brought different forms of styles of music which aided in his musical expression.

He is beyond amazing. He has always been humble just in the begging he was more caught up in a whirlwind. He went from Zappa to replacing Yngwie in Albatras, to Solo, to David Lee Roth, to solo, to Whitesnake, to solo again. He has been so stinking busy and now older and slowed down to enjoy it more. He has always paid his respect to the man who taught him, Joe Satriani. And listen to him humble himself when he is speaking at the Les Paul awards.

I've got this pedal and I love it! What's best about this demo to me is besides the comedy, it isn't misleading. Y'know how sometimes the demo sounds awesome but then you sound nothing like it because you don't have all of the other awesome goodies that the artist in the demo has and their pedal has maybe been modded, but here this isn't the case. I don't sound anything like Steve Vai and I don't aim to, but you can get Vai sounds with this pedal. Thanks for this great and accurate demo :)

I don't think Ibanez makes this pedal anymore, but before it was produced, Vai used a Boss DS-1 and Ibanez Tube Screamer. I'm pretty sure that the Jemini is a combo of both of those specific pedals. They are all you need to dirty-up your sound.

I think Vai is extremely nice personally, straightforward, and has a great sense of humor. He's a nuyawka! It goes without saying that he is probably the greatest rock fusion guitarist to ever exist. On top of that, he plays and writes with great emotion, sings very well, and is gorgeous to boot. As to his sexuality, his bio is straight but his androgynous looks fit the times for those cool enough to appreciate them. Vai's the whole package. I pray he never stops playing.

The 252 that gave Steve Vai thumbs down are clearly not guitarists.

This pedal is basically an Ibanez TS-9 tube Screamer on one side & a Boss DS-1 distortion on the other, which is what Steve & Satriani used for years in their setups.

So it's kind of like having overdrive and distortion in the same pedal? Very utilitarian I must say, since it can accomodate usage with just about any clean or dirty setting on any given amp channel. This would be a good workhorse pedal for the gigging guitarist. Seems like you can get a wide variety of distorted tones. Very well-designed on Steve's part!

What's crazy to me is that Vai seems to have reached a point with rock music, as limited as it is sheet-music wise, where he's essentially mastered any technique of any modern era rock guitarist and it's almost like he sleepwalks through it he's so good. He's a pretty esoteric dude who CAN read music and being a Zappa acolyte, and watching other videos of old Stevie boy online, is obviously playing some searching material. A lot of Vai's earlier solo stuff was a little grating (OK, a LOT grating) for the uninitiated, but it grew like mold. Can't tell you how many Vai Flexable tapes I basically stole from the Bradlee's I worked at just to get the music out there and demo the shitty home audio systems that were the rage at the time.

By the way Steve, if you ever notice this online, I CAN play guitar and what would be brilliant is that...I don't aspire to be like you. I don't want to sound like you yet playing with you would be a dream. I'm just a basic rock guy who's read sheet music for tenor sax for a few years in band. But rock music is in my bones, and I feel it's also in dire need of a kick in the ass to relaunch itself onto the world stage and usurp the rappers.

There's nothing else that can fill you with such a powerful sense of self-confidence as this video :D Now it's enough to think that no matter what occurs to me in this endless, tiresome earthly struggle, my life can still be fulfilled after I purchase that pedal... Thanks, Steve, without you I wouldn't have been able to pass my A-levels :D
