That was very painful to watch...and I can only imagine how it was for you, Josh! Ain't this stuff fun!? Thanks for sharing! She is absolutely gorgeous! I know that you will look back at this someday and laugh that something so stupid caused so much grief! A condenser! Go figure! Enjoy! Be safe! Bro Harry
Biden and his democrat/communists are going to take all the fun away and make all those fossil fuel vehicles illegal or you’ll have to convert them to battery power with proper and pricey permits and inspections. You can thank all those that voted democrat for all this mess. You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy.
People need to draw the line now. Stop putting up with commie bullshit no matter what the costs. If we want this country to exist we better get a backbone and get serious about saying enough is enough...
Man have I “been there done that “. We, I always think that we’re the only ones that have gremlins, they’re everywhere, and can be very frustrating. I should have guessed it was your ignition because that’s the one that bit me the hardest once . I had been working on my 57 Fairlane resto-rod for about a year when the big moment came to fire it up. I had put together a 351W that was supposed to make around 350hp. The whole family and half of the neighbors were there when I tried to start it for the first time. It started, coughed, spit, and backfired, and backfired a lot more. Every night for the next week when I got home I worked on it trying to figure out what was wrong, all it would do was try to start and backfire. I lost count how many times I pulled the distributor to check the timing. The took the carburetor apart a couple time thinking something there was wrong , like blown power valve. I was like they say ‘this close’ to pulling the timing cover to check cam timing. The whole while my wife kept saying “ maybe it’s the points .....maybe it’s the points”. She thought this because we once had a new car with just a few thousand miles that the points went out on , more than likely it was the condenser. I kept saying it’s got a brand new distributor with new everything. For what ever reason that weekend I went to the local ‘Whizzy Mart ‘ and got a $1.98 tune up kit off the rack, not wanting to spend a lot of money to prove a point. I put them in , it fired right up and purred like a kitten as they say. I had to listen to a lot of “ I told you so” from someone who knows 0 about cars. At the time I wasn’t smart enough to know I could have went with a later model distributor and say a MSD box to get away from the points. That is exactly what I did later on and found out that 351 had a lot more hp in it than I was getting with the points ignition. I think it really was around 350 hp with the 10.5=1 compression and cam and manifold. Yeah, the gremlins get us when we least expect it.
Yeah, I was a little disappointed that the condenser failed right off that bat! I knew the points were gapped correctly, but the flathead distributor is pretty hard to get to once the car is assembled. Most of my newer engines are running elec ignitions. The coming and going spark combined with the defective new 6V battery really fought me.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds very nice. She’s not too loud. Excellent job my friend. You don’t know how many times I’ve been through the exact same condenser issue. All the new ones they make are crap. Find yourself a really old one and give it a shot. Cheers 🍻👍👍👍
What type of turn signal set up is that? I have a 1937 5 window that has the Signal Flare turn signal unit, which is kinda ugly. I like the look of the one that is on your car much more.
I don't have turn signals. What you see is an accessory cigarette dispenser and the handle to a Wagner trailer brake controller mounted under the column.
Well not really. I made the assumption that the brand new condenser probably wasn't bad since it was new. I also made the assumption that my brand new 6V battery was good. Both ended up being bad, but it took some trouble shooting to figure it out. If you could predict that two new parts had failed without doing some other swapping or trouble shooting then you are a better mechanic than me.
It would barely run at idle and then all it once it ran good for a second and then bad again. After swapping coils back and forth it was the only electrical component left. Bad condenser can lead to erratic or no spark.
Thanks for sharing Nice car And the ride along
👍
Good Job, You got it

Bro Harry
I'm just disappointed two new parts (condenser and battery) were bad and caused me hours of wasted time that I don't have to waste.
You deserve a beverage of your choice after the condenser fix. Straight pipes - leave 'em alone!! Let her roar down the road!
Genny Light!
Fun fun, I knew you have her up and running before the video ended. That drive was AWESOME. Thank you for the video
It was a struggle, but I got it.

Agreed! Enough is enough 🙂
@@QuickSpeedShop but people here won’t. They’ve lost all common sense. We’ll be like Venezuela before you know it.

The rusty old one on there now seems to work good. It's probably 40 years old!
@@QuickSpeedShop save them 👍
6 Volt system likes nice big fat battery leads like welding cable size, makes a big difference to cranking speed.
I have 1/0 cables on it. The first battery ended having a shorted cell or something so the cranking power was low.
👍🏻Are we having fun yet!!! 😂
More fun now!

Use a 12 volt battery with a resistance block.
After changing a couple too many things it’s hard to distinguish what really did fix the problem. Hope the fix lasts.

I thought it might be the condenser. Sometimes they will last a life time. Sometimes 5 minutes.
Tractor supply. IH FARMALL, THEY HAVE a 6 volt system and there cheep. Points might work also. 6 volt us 6 volt as long as they fit.
Condensers today are junk, that's why I run a mopar/gm hei in my '35 with a crab dist.
How did you figure out it was the condenser

Better get some Smith's on that car. Too loud!
Maybe...I kind of like it.

Yeah, was pretty disappointed in that. I'll be scrounging a bunch of old ones to carry in the car.
