    That is just amazing. I was at half of the video and not understanding what you were going to do. Never crossed my mind a solution for a thing like this... Other than buying a new one. Regards from Argentina!

    What is black epoxy paste used to fill and secure thread insert?

  • @andrewwilson8317
    @andrewwilson8317 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wow,wish I knew this fixture existed. I did repair by injecting Devcon 2 ton epoxy through a very small hole drilled in the crank arm using a high pressure syringe and a very fine needle. The threads and mounting faces were protected using RTV rubber held in place with a screw and two metal washers. It worked but took way longer than using the correct tool!

    i thought that was a great video....it was novel and a departure from the usual.....the special tool looked like a one-time-use only item and the basic design of the broken out carbon fiber crank appeared to be defective......it would be interesting to learn if this repair lasted one week? one month? one year? the cranks basic design was/is still fundamentally flawed so the repair must be only temporary

  • @songmingi

    This is totally misleading and dangerous. so basically you are going to hold the insert with mix of glue. How long do you think it will last until it experiences catastrophic failure? Maybe when descending from a steep hill and landing on hard surface with 100kg rider putting all the weigt on that pedal? There's a reason why people don't fix these cranks once the insert is loose. When the carbon layout that holds the insert in place is compromised, it's not as simple as lets just fill it with glue.

    • @PaulXchannel
      @PaulXchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Don't worry.
      It works well.
      The insert is always filled with glue.
      The crank is hollow.

      In principle this is how all carbon fiber works it is a carbon fiber mesh held together by resin, in other words this is how its done in the first place

  • @mickeymouse4897
    @mickeymouse4897 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Must have cost way more in materials & time to make a one time use resin compressor than buy a new or 2nd hand crank, same principle in doing a windscreen glass repair ...
