To me, he sounds like he may be a pessimist to his core, and he may exaggerate the negative impact of his criticism but he’s hardly ever wrong. I think he feels, like many others, that once you fuck around with the severity a black and white concept, like death, then you’ve seriously hurt the product by lowering the story-telling from potentially an A-tier series, down to a maximum of B- really. There’s very little you can take seriously from then on, and you can’t even trust that the creators have a clearly mapped out path to their conclusion-making shit up as you go is a great way to tell your fan base to gather round right before you lob a grenade right in the middle of the crowd. I just don’t take a story like Naruto or One Piece as seriously as I took, say, Attack on Titan. And before Cold Steel IV, I thought this series was more of an Attack on Titan-level series as far as storytelling goes. Now, I’m not sure if it’s even on a “Tales of” or a Multi-game Final Fantasy game’s-level. I thought Daybreak did a lot to bring a sense of severity back to, and highlight the nature, of the series’ supernatural elements. The ending was also one of the best in the series for me, probably the best if I’m honest. It also went to show that not just the Sept-Terrions hold power over the elements, and that its time for the Grahlsritter to finally take center stage because it’s now clear that there’s a lot more to their faith than Goddess = Good / Demon, Gehenna = Bad. It may just be that they’re one and the same, or different interpretations of the different sides of another “plane of existence,” what they call “the Beyond.”
There’s a lot more to Visions of Mana than people think, and it’s hands down the best Mana game in the series. Ya’ll ain’t giving Visions of Mana its due, they decided to make it look like an approachable game with a simple aesthetic. It’s anything but, the story is super heavy because every 4 years they do this Rite, where 8 people are selected to become sacrifices to rejuvenate the Mana tree. Nobody has really doubted it because the consequences for doing so are dire, they worship the Goddess of Mana so how they spit in her face by not sending sacrifices? Every village that has failed to produce a sacrifice was utterly and completely annihilated. The main character is the new soul guard meant to escort them every 4 years until he retires, but his girlfriend/fiance is selected as the sacrifice from his village. Pretty early on they start having doubts about why sacrifices are even needed, and they hear about the legends of the hero of the past who wielded the mana sword to protect the people or their world-not to sacrifice them. And yea, everything goes to shit before it gets better from there onward, basically. It feels like a slow start but once you get 4-5 classes your moves sets are much better (moves for a weapon carry over to all other classes that use that same weapon). The ring menu quickly becomes second nature, and the game does not require grinding but corestones make it very grindable for those who want to get every ability in the game. I do agree with the country hick being a ridiculous choice, but that’s about the only thing I agree with ya’ll on with this one.
One of my favorite skits from Grace's was when the boys were talking about Hubert and Pascal, and wondering if Hubert would be able to handle her stink. Hubert mumbles that he actually likes her smell
@kurisu3000 NGL whoever said you can start with Trails Through Daybreak was dead wrong 😑 still loving the game so far but yeah I'm gonna go back and start at Trails from Zero asap. I'm in chapter 4 now
@@threeswordssamaidk if it’s too late, but that’s even worse. If you can’t play sky (like me) watch a let’s play or something. Starting at zero will ruin one of the best moments in the series for you, don’t do that to yourself.
Maybe Falcom is playing with the idea of using Nintendo as the game’s localizer and publishing company worldwide… Then, I don’t think a timed exclusive would be possible, it would be a full exclusive and it’s quite possible that the sales numbers on the Switch 1/2 alone would be balanced by the reduced localization and publishing costs. It also makes sense when you think they practically announced this a simultaneous worldwide release. They’ve never used just 1 publisher before, so they’ve never been able to offer anything remotely close to a simultaneous release, globally. But if Nintendo was publishing it, it would definitely be possible, and the fact that it’s a Remake makes its potential market value much easier for a company like Nintendo to forecast sales expectations vs potential localization and publication expenses. It also may help them get more “bang for their buck” with voice acted lines, quite honestly. If Nintendo is negotiating rates with actors, they’re negotiating for several games at once offering thousands of hours of paid work. It will cost them a lot less to have an actor for 10-20 hours if Nintendo is striking the deal than if NISAmerica was. If Falcon still hasn’t made up its mind on a publisher, it would also potentially help explain why the game got announced in a Reel instead of getting its own clip, like in Japan-Falcom doesn’t a publisher there, but they do here, and it’s a good way to keep carrot dangling in front of them considering how much online discourse this shit sparked. Normally Nintendo wouldn’t offer global support for a Falcom title for a niche fan base, but for a remake of the first game-they just might test the waters to see where this goes. They’re a Japanese company at their core, so they’ve known and appreciated Falcom for a long time, but they’ll need more concrete evidence showing that the rest of the world can appreciate them as well.
And Vesperia has a shit story, it starts really well with its class-based critique. The nobility and royalty are so out of touch with reality that they’d rather spend money and resources to colonize the world and expand imperial rule. I mean you start off on a quest to get the lower quarter’s water core back because the elites would rather see the poor grovel and die without clean water than do away with any one of their many decorative water fountains. If you lived and breathed capitalism your whole life, that narrative hits hard-makes you think how bad or how good you’ve had it up until then, and why that might be the case. But then right after emphasizing that even if it’s problematic, there’s a lot of good that can and should be maintained within that empire… AND ABANDONS ALL OF IT FOR MYTHICAL CREATURES AMD ANCIENT RUINS. You officially retire as class reformist and become Ruin Scavenger and an a Defender of Endangered Species that most people don’t even know exist. It’s the fact that progression is slow that people don’t view Vesperia more negatively than the general consensus offers.
Imma keep it a buck, there hasn't been many coverages and hype surrounding metaphor refantazio outside of a select few jrpg centric channels. FF rebirth could very well be goty 2024
that's not really as much of a negative as it seems, considering hdd and ssd are cheaper, you can find prerelease games cheaper on pc and steams refund policy in case you don't like it
Respectfully to the Great RPG Panel, Trails Through Daybreak is a MUCH NEEDED CHANGE IN GAMEPLAY that brought me back to the series. No matter how much I tried I just got bored with it's old gameplay
Sorry about the audio issues here and there. Ill try to fix them as soon as i can. Please understand

Finally, the best podcast returns!
The percentage of times Bao talks negative about Trails outweighs the amount of times he talks positive

@kevinlabelle4229 criticism is fine but saying Sky deserves to be in a sizzle reel is just proving that he just hates the series

Bao calling Cold Steel 3 his game of the year the year it came is CAP. He should just admits he hates the series Lady Pelvic is right
Playing Daybreak now and I'm hooked. Now I gotta go play all the other Trails games so I cam know who's who in the zoo
Wait until you get to chapter 5 😂

@maxthetrickster8300 too late and I know exactly what you're talking about. Starting from Sky is 100% the way to go

I'm feeling the Yumia hype

Bro’s mic kept going out when pelvic came on
Sorry about that. Next time setup will be better

Rebirth as goty would just show that voters are casuals that don't play games. It might not even make top 5 rpgs of the year
Tales of Graces f re-remastered.
I agree about Arise it's a decent game but I hated the combat
Also counter to ShadowEliteHD's PC Master Race talk, you can't get any games on PC Physically
that's not really as much of a negative as it seems, considering hdd and ssd are cheaper, you can find prerelease games cheaper on pc and steams refund policy in case you don't like it
For me it's a deal breaker , I already don't like to sit at my desk to play on PC and no physical pass

Time for you all too play some NSFW RPG's not this E for everyone stuff where the character's look like they are below the age of 12
What you mean, there is no nsfw RPG on market
