You amaze me. I both knit and crochet. I can knit a pair of socks on a "0" kneedle which is very small. Using that size crochet hook. Not going to happen . You won't find 2 stitches the same size regardless of how much I try. That skinny thread does not like me. You go girl. I truly enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming. ❤❤

this series is so addicting!! before watching this channel i was never really into working with thread or yarn smaller than worsted weight and now i’m working detailed vintage doily patterns! vintage patterns are just so interesting to me for some reason, so thank you for helping me find my newest obsession!

Quit being so hard on yourself for your last pattern. Ya did really good for how it was written!! It was still very enjoyable to watch.

This is one I would enjoy seeing you work up again now that you have the picture and know what it is supposed to look like. Doing so might also help to understand what the pattern writer meant by certain phrases, which could come in handy for future mystery patterns!

I only recently discovered the channel, watched some mystery videos and am thrilled. Now I'm wondering if I'm the only one crocheting, pausing, puzzling, etc. along with the video. Am I crazy?

I am enjoying this series. The word you want to use is taut, not taunt. Taut is tight, taunt is provoke.

  • @carolwolf2083
    @carolwolf2083 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I guess it is worth considering that your mystery pattern might be an edging worked vertically. In that case, nothing will ever look symmetrical and it will seem as if you are doing something wrong when in fact, you are creating all kinds of interesting flourishes. Our minds want us to assume that we are working something straight and symmetrical😄

yknow what might be a fun idea for a video? crocheting a pattern with mistakes in it and trying to find and fix those mistakes. i got a pattern for a doily off of ravelry that had been incorrectly transcribed from an old book. i was able to complete the doily but it was an interresting (if annoying) challenge to figure out what i was actually supposed to do as i went. obviously i dont think anybody who made mistakes writing a pattern should be shamed for it so perhaps it would be better to have someone alter a pattern to add mistakes to it instead of finding some unsuspecting person's broken pattern. that way you also have the correct pattern for comparison so you can check your work when youre done

Oh my Goodness that was so fun. You did way better than I would have. I didn't understand most of that pattern. I loved it too, the only problem is that we don't know how to do them the right way now. Maybe you could do a video with the corrections of the ones you don't get exactly right looking at the pattern so we can make them too. I seriously can not believe how close you got to that darn pattern! Job well done! Blessings and thanks for yet another wonderful video!

I´m getting hooked on those mystery crochet projects! (Pun intended). And I always want to see a do over after the picture is revealed. It´s perhaps not an obvious choice on a Saturday night to watch someone crochet for almost an hour but you make it so much fun that I can´t stop watching 😊

I have done filet crochet a lot in the past. Both from vintage patterns and newer ones. I have very old crochet hooks as well some are not even marked. I prefer crocheting with thread and my grandmother preferred yarn. In the older patterns, a closed square was 4 dc, and open was a ch 2 , sk2, dc in next. I found that when I do that I get rectangles and not squared. I did a newer pattern and the creator used a 3 dc for a closed square and a ch1, sk1,1dc and for me that is square. I have also graphed out older patterns as it is much easier to work from. I just bought graph paper. If you really come across a pattern you like, graph it out for later use again. My most ambitious project was a native american in full headdress. Now with mouse holes ugg. I graphed out a pattern for a horse from a picture and the finished product is much larger than the piece was originally. It was a photo of a piece for a chair arm cover doily. When done, it fit the back of a 6ft couch. I tried the chain in size 80 thread and that was too big for a chair arm. I had an unmarked crochet hook that was smaller than the steel size 14 I use to attach beads to my tatting work. Using it on size 80 thread to make a doll house piece it broke. I cried.

It reminds me of the "Blind Men And The Elephant" poem. Trying to guess what it's supposed to be, just by having part of the shape, operating in the dark. I'm learning a lot watching you. I know if I was trying to learn from someone in person, it would be very stressful. I couldn't grasp it, and there would be a lot of anxiety/frustration/impatience between teacher and student. So much better to be able to rewind and look again, stop when my brain is fried, and go back another day. This is a really good idea you had to make these videos. Thank you.

That was fun…..I guessed correctly where we put 12 DC in the Ch-8 sp that this was an edging. So fun! I was wondering if you’d be short. Can’t wait for the next mystery pattern….anyway we did all agreed that it’s your Brother’s fault…..lol 😉
I crochet along with you……it would be helpful if you could do a good, full screen shot of the written pattern as you begin so I might grab a screen shot. . . . . . If that’s allowed ❤️❤️❤️

Delightful as always! The mistake was in Row 3; you missed out one open crochet, i think, and that's why your 12 DCs started too early, they should have all gone into the ch8 loop. You MUST have heard me screaming at the screen "Go back, GO BACK ! You missed one!!!" 😄

Hello Roger! Since Corrina threatens to blame you if her projects turns out badly, do you get credit for her beautiful work?
I think you did a great job on this convoluted old pattern! It's stunning! You're one brave lady - I automatically pass on patterns with no pic!
I can only imagine how frustrating it is for you to explain in each of these videos how to translate old crochet stitches to today's terms - or that you are working from a UK pattern, just to have people question you in the comments! I'm just a viewer, but I want to SCREAM when I read those questions/complaints!!! Fortunately, most of us seem to watch every minute of your videos in the hopes that we will learn something from you! You're awesome!!!😉

It confused me, too, because on the stitch definition page, it says "open crochet" is the same as our filet crochet, but the picture shows square stitches, not rectangles. With a expensive as publishing a book was back then, you'd think they would have tested the patterns better 😅
