Alan Jackson is the king
When they give this song to George to record He said he didn’t want to record it because he didn’t think anyone would listen to it because it was so sad and It ended up being his most famous song and voted best country song of all time
Now you need to see Vince Gill and Patty Loveless's tribute to George. Sweet Pea and Possum truly loved each other!
Absolutely
Noo. That one should only be reacted to AFTER they hear the original version.
That performance doesn't do that song justice. The performance will distract from the song. Plus, that performance isn't going to hit quite the same if you don't know how the song is supposed to sound.
Yes!
Yes please, Vince Gill & Patty Loveless. Go Rest High on that Mountain. I love your channel, I've been w/ you since your 1st reaction. I feel we're friends now! Ha I catch myself saying to people 'have the day you deserve' Keep doing you baby, youre amaz! ❤
Most emotional thing I’ve ever seen, it’s incredible.
That's Nancy, George's wife, in the front row that you were asking about. He married her after he and Tammy Wynette divorced. The hardest song at George's funeral for me was Vince Gill and Patty Loveless - "Go Rest High On That Mountain."
It is, but she should hear the original before seeing that performance.
Barbara Bush is sitting by Nancy

My brother and I went to Nashville from Canada when we heard George had passed. And we are forever grateful that we were able to attend his funeral. We stood in line for an hour or two and were some of the last of the public to be admitted...Tanya Tucker was just leaving the stage when we were seated. Everyone in the Opry had a tear in their eye when Alan sang this. A memory we'll always cherish.
A great memory to remember I'd love to have been there when this happens even though it was a sad moment but a great moment
How could Alan hold it together without breaking down...i couldn't have done it
I'm sure he cried buckets before and after his performance, but he kept it together on stage to honor George. I'm sure doing George's song justice was what played through his mind in those minutes while he sang, and he did an amazing job.
You can hear the tears in his voice. Bless him.
The greatest country song of all time. "The Possum" will never be forgotten. Nice channel, Britt!
We are glad you are here
Brit, do “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill at this same event. It’s hard to make it through
Vince wrote GO Rest High On That Mountain, when a dear friend passed away, a very Emotional song for Vince, he had also played several shows with George Jones.
There was a personal friendship connection with Vince Gill. and George Jones.
I'm not crying, you're crying. Wowzers!
Alan Jackson is a wonderful rabbit hole
This song, recorded by George Jones, was #1 Country years in a row, which was very rare, in any genre of music.
Song was written by Curly Putnam and Bobby Braddock, 2 of the all, time great Country Music Song Writers.
This song was written and recorded in 1980 it became Country Music Song of the year for, 2 years in a row.
A distinction that very few songs ever achieve.
Today, it is still a highly requested and played song.
As long as this recording is still around, we still can lusten to True Country Music by one of the All-Time great singers. With the ability to touch your heart ❤️, to its core.
Singers of this caliber don't just appear on stage in performance every day.
GEORGE JONES, FOREVER WILL BE MISSED!!!
you are right...JOnes was Alans hero. thanks for the tribute !
Alan loved George. At some show Alan was asked to sing his Pop a top. George was given a very short time to sing, so heopted out and stayed home. Alan showed up, sang a few bars of his song and then he and his band switched to George’s song! So A used all his time to honor George. It is said G cried while watching from home.
Alan was supposed to sing Pop a Top and some other song, but he chose to go from the Pop a Top right in to George's Choices, then walked off. The video is not that clear but he made his opinion known to the CMA. Alan Jackson protesting the decision to not allow George Jones to sing his full song. George refused to appear on the show. th-cam.com/video/tJVp6FM0aH0/w-d-xo.html
It was the CMA Awards show
I heard he walked straight off the stage onto his tour bus. Those older country singers who sing real country don’t put up with crap and stand up for what they believe in.
Chills every damn time. This is the music I'd hear when running south from "yankee" north to see fam and friends... those winding roads across red clay land and the pines and humidity as you approached the gulf waters... those "backroad" radio stations were fantastic. Broke me every time a hill or drop off cut out the local crackling radio broadcast. Been a fan of Alan's for a spell... he was hitting it well in my youngling years... but I do appreciate the tribute and how reaching back to solid writing is just timeless and forever solid. This ranks with Luther's Dance w my Father Again and many many more.
The greatest country song ever written and sung by George Jones
George Jones at one time had been married to Tammy Wynette (another county artist). It was said that he never really got over her. He wrote a song after the divorce titled If Drinking Don't Kill Me, Her Memory Will, but when he sang the song in concert he would sing If Drinking Don't Kill Me, Tammy's Memory Will.
Alan Jackson is one the greatest singers every I grew a head banger but I became a fan of his the first time I heard him sing.
Alan did a great job, but you could see him struggling to get through it. He loved and respected George so much.
This was a tribute... Alan, as always knocked this outta the park..
You have got to watch Vince Gill and Patty Loveless doing 'Go Rest High On that Mountain' also at George's funeral.
The show ,You can be a star 1986....Alen Jackson was picked from the audience to sing whatever song he wanted....this was the one he sang, the rest is history!
"He stopped loving her today" is widely considered #1 of all time in country music. Powerful.
he was about to cry. good on him.
He sang with George in don't rock the jukebox, and you could tell they were having fun. He enjoyed George.
wow only 3 months and you've done so many videos!!
He nailed this song with the family of George there, I would not have been able to do it.
3 months and almost 100k subs, speaks volumes to your ability to communicate to all peoples, keep up the good work
Screw everyone commenting here. I've seen the whole show gazillion of times. THIS is the best performance. Not even close.
There wasn't a dry eye in the auditorium. Alan did an excellent job of keeping it together while singing. I wouldn't have made it through half way.
102K followers after 3 months?? Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks she's easy on the eyes, sweet as a glass of Tennessee tea, and always so positive
That woman who’s crying her eyes out 😢is George Jones’s wife
You should hear Charlie Daniel's eulogy that he gave for George Jones before his own performance at this funeral.. Charlie has a beautiful way with words, and it was perfect.
Hey it's will from TEXAS nedvto do VINCE GILLS GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN AT GEORGES FUNERAL
Check out Alan Jackson Lifetime Achievement award performance & speech from the CMA 2022.
You can hear every once of heartbreak while he sung that
Alan and George had a great friendship. Alan was the the perfect one to do this song when George went home. Alan is a rebal He has defied a couple of the award shows. On one that George was scheduled to perform the producers had asked him to only sing a short Clip of the song so that another artist that wasn't even country could have his time George refused and didn't even come. When Alan took the stage he started into his song then quickly changed and sang George's entire song. Another time they ask him to sing to a recorded track instead of having his band actually play. He and his band took the stage he had his drummer play the whole song without drum sticks. You should react to (Way Down Yonder on the Chattahoochie). Alan is from Georgia with you being raised in Georgia you might be familiar with the Chattahoochie river. As always great reaction Britt 💙
That's his daughter Jennifer, by his wife Nancy Sepulvado, who was from my wife's home town of ZWOLLE Louisiana. His daughter Jennifer had two children who were born 4 months after George died.
The woman in the front row is his wife Nancy ,& the song is "Not" about her ! He recorded this in the 60's/70's before Nancy. George was Alan's hero
I cant believe a (beautiful) black woman like you can appreciate this, given the currenti-white, wave that is washing over our country. Many thanks to you❤
The lady in the front row crying is Nancy Sepulvado... the wife of George Jones.
AJ grew up idolizing The Possum, and after AJ became a star, they became good friends. This was such a beautiful but heart-rending moment.
I cry every time I hear this song- played at my husbands funeral too-- floods of memories... always enjoy seeing your smiling face Britt!
He is absolutely one of my favorite country singers of all time
It's very difficult not to tear up or outright cry at the end of this song. I know that for sure. Such a meaningful verse.
Y'all be safe.
One of the things I love about this video is that you almost NEVER see Alan Jackson take his hat off. I don't think I've ever seen it outside this video before. So you can really see what George Jones meant to Jackson and the country community as a whole.
Alan is definitely a member of the PDC!
Listen to Vince Gill sing Go rest high on that mountain and his funeral.
Cheers to King George!!! He was undeniable amongst exceptional men . Legendary amongst Legends!
When Alan was very young, and writing songs in Nashville, he and George struck up a friendship. George really supported Alan , in later years , when Alan was famous, he really loved and supported George.
You MUST check out Vince Gill and Patty Lovelace at George's funeral. George treated Vince like a son, and Vince really loved him for that. You can tell that in the video.
My gran used to pick me up from school in her 78 LTD bumping this. I was 8 and had no idea what George was talking about. I wonder who she thought about when this song was on
Alan Jackson is an absolutely living legend!. Keeping it true country.
Alan and George were good😢 friends. Alan Jackson has a GREAT catalog.
He was barely able to hold it together, but did it with class. And the hat off at the end, in case you don’t know, is the most honorable thing you can do in our culture. It’s the country boys version of a salute. Many don’t know (not anymore anyway) that there is an unwritten “code of ethics” attached to wearing a cowboy hat. NOW- for the most emotional one, check out Vince Gill’s performance at this funeral of “go rest high on that mountain” with the incredible Patty Loveless, who by the way is the latest inductee to the country music hall of fame! One thing is for certain, if you watch that tribute, you will walk away with an incredible brand new respect for Patty Loveless!
YOUR WEAR YOUR HEARTFELT AND CARING EMOTIONS AS AN ABSOLUTE BADGE OF HONOR! AND THATS WHY I LOVE YA... BRAVO, LITTLE LADY
George Jones was and still is an Icon in country music. Many of the great singers and song writers from those days have passed away but never forgotten by us fan's who still love and appreciate the music, the song's and their raw emotions that brought em all to life for us to feel.
Absolutely awesome !!!
Memorial Tributes are very special.
Charlie Daniels memorial - Travis Tritt - Longhaired Country Boy is special
George Jones and Alan Jackson were quite close. There is a video of them recording a song together, "A Good Day for the Roses" , and you can see the respect and love they had for each other. It's a really good song but I enjoy the video as much as I do the song itself. It's worth a visit.
George almost didn’t record this song because it’s topic of love and suicide but it was one of, if not his biggest hit. Enormously sad song for many reasons!
It's hard enough to sing a George Jones song, but with the emotion running through him, this must have been tough. Alan Jackson comes across as very nice. Empathetic, cares about others, just a good good person.
That was probably George’s biggest song. You should really listen to his version. His voice was wonderful.
George was an absolute legend who is sorely missed and whose legacy will carry on forever. He was haunted by many of his own demons, and he was hardly a perfect human being, but he used those demons to share so much love, heartbreak, joy, and remembrance with all of us. Alan Jackson singing this in tribute is perfect...because he has done very much the same through his music. RIP, George...and never leave us, Alan.
You need to do a deep dive on Alan, he's my favorite country singer. George Straight is considered the king of country, but it is Alan for me first.
Inside the cassette cover of his first album, Alan mentions George Jones' song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes", saying something like, "I don't know if I can fill them, but I'd sure love to try 'em on". In my opinion, whether or not he has filled them, Alan sure has worn them well.
Alan sang this song for George's 80th birthday at the Opry. Would be a good one to watch.
Alan was ba bit younger then so his voice control was perfect.
Although this video today hits different
Alan does George proud! but im here because brit is gorgeous!!
I had tickets to go see George one last time before he got sick and canceled all his shows. Seen him many times as a kid at the outdoor country shows my parents would drag me to....
Alan did huge song when 911 happened ! Right after he did it live at an awards show ! Check that out . Unbelievable song Alan wrote right after that ! Song called where were you when the world stopped turning .
Very nice. So many reviewers just don't get the symbolism. I noticed your hat, on the coat rack, looks like Alan Jackson's Stetson hat.
I saw from left to right... Patty Loveless... Vince Gill..... Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks all stars in their own right there to pay respects to George and his loved ones who were saying their goodbyes to George. RIP ... George....
Thank you for saying “his home-going”💔
Awesome reaction girl👍 there’s also a video of Alan Jackson and George Strait duetting this song in a beautiful tribute to George Jones 😊
Here's a cool story concerning Alan Jackson and George Jones:
In 1999 (I think) George Jones was supposed to open the CMA Awards show with a performance of his song called "Choices". But they wanted him to shorten it down. George Jones refused to shorten it, but they wouldn't let him perform the whole song. So George Jones boycotted the CMA's. The CMA's instead got Alan Jackson to open the show, singing his hit cover called "Pop A Top".
After the solos in the song, the band stopped and began playing the chorus to George Jones' "Choices". The audience filled with other artists stood in ovation when he began singing it, because they obviously knew the situation. When the performance was over, Alan and the band quickly got off the stage, got on their tour bus, and literally left the building.
The next day, Alan Jackson was on a country music talk show on the TNN network and talked about why he did it, and the studio had George Jones call into the show and talk to Alan. The whole situation was a pretty awesome concerning two legends.
You can easily find the mentioned Alan Jackson performance and the interview in two separate videos if you search "Alan Jackson Choices". The performance is labeled "Alan Jackson - Pop A Top/Choices uploaded by KSWheels, and the interview is labeled "Alan Jackson gets praises from George Jones" by MsKirbmeister.
Alan did a great job
Peace, Love!! George had some troubles, but he is/was a classic, as is Alan. Peace, Love, some more!!
They were great friends, almost a mentor/ mentee relationship.
Yes, mentee is a real word
Alan's "Remember When" is a beautiful song. I think you would enjoy it, but please make sure to do the official video if you react to it!
The woman on front row was George Jones wife. The lady to her right is Laura Bush
Alan had MASSIVE respect for George as the ICON he was!! In the 1999 CMA awards show, he stood up for George...the CMA asked Alan to sing his song Pop-a-Top, so Alan said ok. Little did they (the music execs) know he had something else planned. He walked out sang a couple bars of he song...the stopped and played George's new single "Choices." Finished the sing George should have been allowed to sing, then walked off the stage and out of the building!! George and his wife, Nancy was moved to tears at home watching on TV. ❤
Look up "A Good Year for the Roses" with George Jones and a very young Alan Jackson.
People are going to request Vince Gill's performance of "Go Rest High on that Mountain" at this funeral, but I highly HIGHLY recommend that you do the original BEFORE reacting to that performance. I can't really explain why without spoiling it.
Also, there's an upload of him performing it at the funeral where he first starts with a funny story concerning him and George Jones. I wish people would react to that version so they can hear the story, but they never do.
Country bumpkin by cal smith great story line will leave a tear
Luv the song since 1980! Britt is gorgeous!
You should now look for "He Stopped Loving Her Today" tribute by Alan Jackson and George Strait. It was performed at the CMA awards.
Britt the lady in the front row you were asking about is GEORGES widow Nancy Jones
Another awesome reaction! I love that you are doing off the beaten path reactions. AJ loved George and George loved AJ!
Great videos have a great life sunshine
I've watched several of your reaction videos now, over the past couple weeks. Let me just say you are a strikingly beautiful woman. I don't care about your racial or ethnic background. You are beautiful. Love your mannerisms, the way you hold yourself and the way you speak. Your husband is a lucky man to have your love.
I think the woman you are referring to is George's wife Nancy.
According to things I have heard in interviews and other people talking about George Jones, he took a big interest in young artists and helped quite a few of them get into Country music and advance their careers. That is why so many of the "younger" artist feel so strongly towards him. I used quotes because those younger artist are now all grow with matured careers, they were young when George helped them and they continued to have relationships with him until he passed.
anyone else have issue trying to see replies? Sometimes It'll tell me I have two or three replies but I can never expand to see them. This reply just keeps trying to load but I never get to see it
"He Stopped Loving Her, Today." Regarded by many as the best all time country song originally performed by the greatest all time country artist,. Get a box of tissues and watch Vince Gill and Patty Lovelace do Vince's tribute "Go Rest High on That Mountain" at that same service.
That was his wife navy he created her with saving his life. I had the. Honor of meeting both George he was a very humble man didn’t think he was the best but he was. Navy is a sweet lady
I couldn't sing at a funeral even for someone i didn't know well, seeing family and friends crying. No way no how call me a wuss I'd choke up seeing their pain. That had to be so tuff to do and Alan did an amazing job considering the emotion.
So beautiful.... love it
Britt, The lady in front row is his wife Nancy. But you seriously need to react to Vince Gill and Patty Lovelace "Go Rest High on the Mountain which they sang at George Jones funeral. Happy Easter weekend. Love ya girl.❤
My favorite Alan Jackson song is “Someday.” He has done a lot of good songs though. He did a song called When The World Stopped Turning that he wrote n performed shortly after 9/11. Please check out that song!
Tammy Wynette was George Jones wife. Check out golden rings, two story house.
From Tammy stand by your man, and till I can make it on my own. D-I-v-o-r-c-e are all great songs. George was a mentor to many young artists. Allen is a traditional country music singer
Yes, it IS hard to sing...
Thanks for this great reaction.
MORE ALAN JACKSON!!!!
Now...You MUST REACT to Vince Gill with Patty Loveless singing Vince's song...Go Rest High On That Mountain at George's funeral!!😢 PS. Nancy Jones (George's wife) personally asked Alan to sing that song at the funeral...what else could he say, but YES!!😢
