Wish Kawasaki would have went bigger on engine displacement, but I'm a sucker for power my first motorcycle was a 12 Kawasaki z1000 in metallic orange and also trail ride a 19kx100 which has plenty power for trails and autocross...
I wont upgrade to the 300. Makes no sense when i was planning to put on the 351 kit anyway. Plus i bought some sumos from a 14’ sm so i have both rims just ganna steal the bigger rotor off the 300. I was really wishing they would update the headlight, im not a huge fan of it. Im pretty sure the crf300l is coming to the us since the wr is no more.
Sounds like you’re doing it the right way. I definitely think Honda is bringing the 300L to the US soon. ESPECIALLY since Yamaha took their 250. Kawasaki ain’t getting off that easy. I think they could have sold more people on the klx300 with a small headlight and plastics update at least!
@@Caustic225 hopefully the 300 brings more aftermarket to the klx line. Thats my biggest issue with it, its really difficult to find parts for it. Most the time you have to buy parts that are meant for other bikes and pray it fits or modify the parts to make them fit. But it looks like the klx is finally starting to get some love.
As of right now I’d say go with a good ol’ DRZ400. Hard to beat those bikes. There are plenty of other good bikes but the drz checks most of the boxes until/if something better comes out.
That is exactly what I’m hoping on. Yamaha seems to never be scared of putting out a new bike people ask for. Hopefully they discontinued the wr250 for that reason. Sorry I wasn’t much help on your question but I think we’re all in the same boat. We’re all waiting on the next Japanese company to make their move. I’m thinking Yamaha might be that company. 😎
Really disappointed in the lazy way that Kawasaki went about “upgrading” the KLX 250 to create the KLX 300. Seat height still sucks for shorter riders, ground clearance went down, styling the same, not enough weight savings to matter. A blown opportunity.
I got my DRZ 400 SM with 7000 miles on it for 3000. It is a 2008 and needed minor work and it’s a blast to ride and super reliable. If you could get a DRZ for cheap I’d say do it but when you creep up in that 5000 range I would just get a new bike IMO.
Maybe I misunderstood but you said the 300r and the 300sm are not the same bike. I work for a Kawasaki dealer and our rep said they are the same frame and motor. The suspension is inverted but appears to be the same or very close to the same.
Well it’s basically the 300r with the 250 styling. So yes, very close to the same. The biggest difference for me is the styling between the two. There are differences in the compression ratios and ignition but that’s what I meant when I said I would have rather see the 300r just “street legal” like the klx230l was done. The 230s resemble each other more than the 300’s. The engine and frame look to be very similar but the styling is different. I’m sure there are tune differences between a trail bike and road legal bike. Looks to be that way due to the exhaust being different between the two. Also the gearing in the transmission may be different and possibly the rake and other possible ergonomics. I’ve also never looked at one or found specs on those differences so I am also speculating. I definitely prefer the looks of the 300r with its plastics being different and seat and gas tank. I think it’s a better looking bike. As far as performance goes we’ll have to see but I don’t see it being the exact same due to road legal emissions. Hopefully exhausts and other mods will interchange between the two. Really it is hard to complain with such slight differences and hopefully the 300r parts would bolt right on the 300sm 😎
@@rjachopapings5907 it’s going to be very close to the same I’d say around 30-32 hp for the 300r but it’s hard to get a direct answer anywhere for that number. I’m sure it would be an increase over the street versions just because of less emission restrictions.
I went with the 300L non ABS model here in Illinois. Can't wait.
Love the vids keep them coming.

@@vector7013 I know how that goes.. All in all tho, its going to be a great bike. I’m glad to see it in Kawasaki’s line up for sure.
I want a 40+ horsepower dual sport with low service intervals and easy maintenance. Any recommendations?

I've had a dr650/ drz400sm. Both are awesome bikes. I think if yamaha comes out with a new dual sport, it'll set the stage again like the wr250r did

I feel the same way! Blown opportunity for sure!
I can get used drz400 for 3500 and another 1k for sm tires. So would you get 2021 klx300sm (7k) or 2005 drz400sm used (4.5k)
Just remember that the new bike (KLX) has a warranty and is more modern, in terms of dual sports.

We need a supermoto Honda
When’s the next video???
I think converting the crf300L to supermoto its more worth. you got better performance and better looks for couple bucks more
Do these make good beginner bikes ?
Yeah in my opinion they would be great bikes to start on
What's the peak hp of the klx300?
I’m not sure of the exact horsepower ratings but if I had to guess I’d say 26-31 hp but I don’t believe Kawasaki released those numbers yet.
@@Caustic225 thanks
How bout the klx 300r?, know anything bout the actual hp?, would appreciate it if you do🙂
