@@jonathonsirlord8251 As I said, she's not a Pawn Cinder is just not a Player according to Salem I think that means, Salem plans on getting rid of Cinder if she starts to become a Threatto her plan
Honestly, I've always seen ironwood as either a rook or knight instead of a queen. But thinking back on it, it's funny how ozpin chose chess pieces as relics way back in vol 1 during the initiation. JNPR took the rooks, and RWBY took the knights.
With the many chess references throughout RWBY there's also people who are players in smaller games in their own right- not the big game. Jacques and Ironwood (and I think Watts at some point) were shown to have been playing chess as the players over Atlas. Now in the V9 trailer, we have Ruby introduced as a chess player and her teammates as the pieces in the Everafter- definitely curious as to what that foreshadows.
If the red army is one of rebellion then that may be represented by the new silver eyes Grimm. Hopefully team RWBY and friends can get reinforcements from the Everafter - just picture the Grimm being swarmed by mice warriors.
If Ozpin and Salem are both the players and the kings of the chessboard, then the Brother gods are the judges, watching and waiting for a victor to crown so they can move on to their next game. I think that for Salem Tyrian is the knight, Watts the bishop, Hazel (was) a rook, and Cinder is also a bishop, but one that behaves as though she were the queen and desperately wants to be a player. For Ozpin, Ironwood was the queen, but with him gone that roll may be filled by Ruby instead, with Qrow acting as a knight, Glynda a bishop, and Lionheart and Theodore as rooks. Despite my thinking that Ruby might be the new queen on Ozpin’s side, there’s no reason that Ruby couldn’t be *both* a queen *and* a player herself with her own red faction, as you postulated. So while she’s the queen for Oz’s side, she’s also the king for her own faction, with Jaune as the queen thanks to his leadership skills, semblance, and knack for tactics and planning. While Weiss is a bishop, Blake is a knight, Yang a rook, Nora also a rook, Emerald a knight, Nora a rook, Ren a bishop, and (potentially) Neo as… something. I’m not really sure with her. These chess piece rolls aren’t exactly the most thought out ones. I’m familiar with chess, but haven’t played in awhile, so some of my analogies may not line up. But one thing I am certain of is that Ruby’s side has *no* pawns. No one is sacrificial. No one can be given up easily for victory. Every loss hurts, but in return every piece is loyal to her to a fault and will fight to the end.
I think for Ozpin's side-Ironwood was the queen, Glynda and Qrow were the knights...Glynda potentially replacing Raven in that role, Lionheart and Theodore were either the Rooks or Bishops but then the other two I could now see as Team Rwby and Jnr and others. Does raise the question if Ozpin see's it like that, who were the ones before Rwby and Jnr/others.
You know, I just remembered this... One of the volume 1 episodes is even called Players and Pieces. It's one of the episodes in their initiation to Beacon.
If their is a third faction of Ruby and them leaving then Qrow would be a Rook, Jaune a knight, Nora the other Rook, Weiss her queen, Ren a bishop, Blake the other bishop and Yang as the other knight.
@@Dragonsofchaos852 oh do tell. I choose Yang to be a knight because of her loyalty to Ruby and her friends needs. She rushes into battle, even when split up she was worried for Ruby, and let's not forget that.
@@randypelow455 I was saying rook. Because of her fighting style and her rushing into the fight in the earlier volumes. Also that's she more of a power house then an agile character. But that's just my opinion. And I see why you said she's a knight. Due to her loyalty to her friends and ruby.
@@shadow-faye understandable but she is the most versatile and her summons have plenty of power. Plus in chess even the weakest piece pawn can take down a queen.
Great point- but I believe the answer boils down to arrogance. She's always thought she could outsmart the gods and in some ways was better than them. She can't learn her lesson- something we see with Cinder that might bind them together.
Either A) she's learned nothing and thinks she can take them down or B) we've not been told the full story yet. Possibly both. Remember, we only know from Jinn what Oz was specifically, hiding and he only knows what the gods and Salem told him. My theory is that she's less evil than we think in her overall goal. Salem was the name of a town where people were burned for being falsely accused of being witches. We've heard plenty from other people and lots of speculation from characters about her motives, including Oz SAYING her goal is to die, but I suspect there's more to it, and that either that and simply destroying the world isn't her goal, or that goal will change when she discovers new information (say the existence of the ever after) or the balance of power shifts - say she gets her hands on Ruby Rose or she actually does get all the relics or the crown of choice shows her an option she hadn't considered... Or maybe the guardian of the relic of destruction tells her that whatever she wants to destroy, herself or the world or the gods is impossible so she needs a more interesting plan. I just think that Salem ultimately having a different plan to what's expected and also insight nobody else has which actually gives the audience some reason to rethink our perceptions of her would make sense and be beneficial to the storyline, plus she needs some kind of character development and/or complexity beyond stubbornness, arrogance and resentment. Though maybe her loneliness and imprisonment earned her some trust issues and attachment issues I guess, but then we need to see more of her trauma so we can sympathize with her instead of just the "old woman is the evil witch" trope. And since RWBY is very female empowerment I'm pretty sure they'll go the "Salem was kinda messed around by the male gods for not accepting her place and the whole story isn't actually being told here" route, cause, you know, witch persecution and stuff.
Here's a thought: the gods INTENDED people to unite the relics eventually and be given a second chance with them. Ozpin took the ostrich approach of hiding the relics, which seems to be the opposite of what his mission was. Salem is actually fulfilling the mission. And we already know Oz is a suspicious character. So I think we have more to know about their motives, though it could just boil down to them both thinking this leads to the end of the world, but I don't think this was ever said to be the case (unless humanity fails the test).
Interesting how the gods to Salem are what Salem is to Cinder. Cinder clearly wants maximum power so she can be a rival even to Salem or at least not have to serve her - it's in what she said about how people who hoard power just "make the rest of us hungrier" and how greedy she is for all the maiden power, and how she hides her ambitions and quest deviations from Salem (who isn't fooled). Does Salem really not have the self-awareness to see that Cinder's efforts towards her are as futile as hers towards the gods? Or maybe she does intend to be humble and admit she was wrong and beg for death.
I knew, there was some reference to chess with rwby. During vol 8. But that leaves a couple of things. If we go by chess terms. Since ozpin's the king, I assume that makes oscar a second king on ozpins side. Though forcefully and not willingly at first. And outside of teams rwby and jnpr. Who'd else join the third chess set. Because here are the would be current pieces of that side. (Due keep in mind, this is my opinion. And that some pieces, may have more than one chracter.) King: Ruby. Queen: Weiss/ winter. (The former because of partnership during beacon. And the latter, because of her maiden powers.) Rooks: Yang/Nora. Knights: Jaune/Weiss. (Jaune and weiss are obvious, because of their lineages. Despite the latters summons, which would technically put her as a bishop.) Bishops: Ren/Blake. Pawn: Emerald. Who else would be the pawns? The innocent people that were told the truth and chose to fight? There's also another possibility raven ends up becoming a third party piece. Since she cares for yang and maybe qrow.
In the last volume 9 trailer we saw the chess/game board Ruby and the EverAfter Royal was playing getting flipped over and the pieces scattered. Kinda like how our heroes fell into the EverAfter from their board of Remnant.
I love it when series or games go ibto chess Meta. It brings strategy and plot twists vuz even in chess a lone pawn can become a Rook or queen and completely changes the battle
The first thing I thought of when I saw the title was highschool DxD, which kinda matches with what you said towards the end of the video about characters being certain pieces
Think we can all agree that Prof Goodwitch is Ozpin's queen piece. Well considering that in chess a pawn can become a queen it will be interesting to see which one will step up to become Ozpin’s most powerful piece. I do imagine that the chess match with the “red queen” in Volume 9 will have a bit bigger impact going forward.
Hazel and Cinder are Rooks, no question. Their methods are drastically different from each other, but in their own ways are simple and straightforward. Tyrian and Watts are both clearly Bishops, primarily shadow operatives against the heroes and rarely revealing themselves. Roman was just a pawn, albeit a useful one. His criminal network was essential for Cinders operations in Vale during the first 3 volumes. Mercury and Emerald are an interesting pair. Both started as pawns, with Mercury eventually proving himself during the assault on Atlas and becoming a lieutenant. Its likely he will function as a Bishop given that his father was an assassin and trained him to be as well. Emerald, however, was never more than a pawn to Salem and Cinder. This led to her switching sides and joining the heroes. I think Salem's Knights are gonna be more of those special Grimm RWBY and JNPR were much easier when you recall the relics they acquired during the Beacon Initiation. RWBY as the loyal Knights, defending the royalty to the last, and JNPR as the Rooks, a group of students who were mostly straightforward fighters. Though both teams started out as mere Pawns. Oscar/Ozpin as the King obviously. With Ironwood dead, the Queen spot is vacant. Though I suppose it could potentially be filled by Winter Schnee now that she has the maiden powers. Ruby herself is also a likely candidate as a Silver eyed warrior
Looking back at Volume 2 and 3, this made me question if Ozpin was planning to make Team RWBY to be the next Team STQR for his chess board. It's not coincidence that he allowed an young Silver Warrior, a former White-Fang fugitive, the Daughter of Raven Branwen and Snchee heiress to enter his academy. He always seemed to pay... extra attention to their missions and actions.
He was! Raven in V5 spoke a bit of her team experiences at Beacon. How Ozpin would cover their mistakes, bend the rules for them, task them with more difficult missions. Same as he's done with RWBY throughout V1-3. Here's something else i have pondered. Did Ozpin really permit Ruby Rose to enter Beacon Academy because of her skill? Or because at the start of V1, the start of the show. Salem's forces have been unusually/concerning so, far more active than they've been in quite some time. Perhaps Ozpin's intentions were for the safety of Ruby. To give her a safe sanctuary for the next 4 years at his school and not risk her being a easy target because of her eyes. We know how that went... Or maybe the intention was that, underneath all that calm demeanour Ozpin gives off. He is that desperate to quickly form a new team he will entrust with by telling half ass truths and become the new/current generation of defenders against Salem. Like STRQ before them, and the team before STRQ! So on. Think of Ozpin's stance at Vale during V1-3. Just Vale. He's got Goodwitch, and Qrow.... Ugh... Raven left, and Taiyang doesn't do crap anymore. A maiden in critical condition, that being Amber... Does that sound like a solid force? No.
@@steelscorpion9114 Oh, interesting... I never considered that Oz might have wanted to keep Ruby away from Salem by letting her in early. I always thought it was because of her skill.
@@rebekahstockwell8706 He could also sense that their game was coming to a head... But it also seems that Ruby set Saleem on faster timer but while Volume 8 iis a result of this I wonder in Volume 3 was too? Like Qzpen said " But perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten; things that require a smaller, more honest soul." In the first episode but I don't know when he was supposed to say that in canon. Still though Ruby is more then a pawn in their game.
Ruby and Co are on the verge of massively growing thanks to the Ever After which will confront everyone about their own identities, mistakes and motives. So coming into V10, I would agree that team RWBY (and Jaune) would appear more as a player than ever before. But since you're connecting things to No Game No Life, there is I think another connection worth bringing up, that is with the Gods themselves. The same way the ultimate chess match will be played between Sora/Shiro and Teto in NGNL, the ultimate confrontation within RWBY will be between the GoL/GoD and... whoever still present at this moment (likely Salem, Ozpin and the heroes). So it wouldn't be a stretch imo to say that RWBY is a four player chess match ! The players being : Salem, Ozpin, The Gods, Team RWBY
Love your videos phoenix and have been watching for a couple of years now. I'm just curious when can we see the next part of team SRPH? Love their story so far and can't wait to see more
Thank you for all the support! I'm hoping to continue SRPHs story during Volume 9 so I am aiming to have another video out for the series within the next couple weeks 😊
I think White Queen: Ironwood Bishops: Raven and Qrow - cause of how they can move diagonally (which to me seems kinda sneaky and less direct, hence spies) and across the board and also they can fly far. ;) Also they're closer to the king and queen than the other pieces. Castles: Lionheart and Theodore at the other academies. Going by the value of chess pieces, castles are most valuable after the queen, so they have to be where the relics are. Also they're furthest away from Oz by proximity and possibly trust, since they weren't at the season 3 inner circle meeting where we first get introduced to the realisation that something is up. Castles are also formiddable in their own right and you can't approach them directly, plus there is the whole fortress symbolism of their shape, indicating strongholds, as the schools and kingdoms are. Knight: Glynda. And she literally carries a riding crop! 😂 She also serves the king directly and never disobeys or doubts his decisions. Pawns: the students. Potentially any students at his school, but ultimately the ones he selects. They not only advance and fight on the front lines. but he intends for them to become queens. Pyrrha was an example of a pawn he tried to make a queen. Since Cinder's maiden abilities are part of what make her a queen and second only to Salem (the other thing is her ability to manipulate and operate from shadows), Pyrrha could likely have been be considered a potential queen, at least she was intended to be. Other pawns intended to become queens were Winter (by Ironwood), and Penny kinda became one more accidentally. And Summer was probably a queen due to her eyes. Unfortunately, Ironwood and Oz were always a move or two behind or didn't see all the plays Salem had available, so just as those pawns were getting promoted to queens they'd get taken out. So currently, Ozpin has no queens on the board. BUT Ruby could become the next queen DURING season 9. In Through The Looking Glass, Alice is a pawn who wants to become a queen and advances through 8 different terrains (squares) to eventually become a queen. She becomes a queen in her own right, not replacing either the red or white queen or seemingly allied with either. So maybe before she goes back to Remnant she will have become the third queen in the ultimate game and bring a new perspective that is neither Oz's nor Salem's.
thats would actually be an awesome idea as i do remember rooster teeth sayiny they wanna keep the rwby series going as long as possible so introducing us to a new faction and player in the story could be awesome having ozpin and his faction fight against salem and the red rebellion would be in interesting turn i do beleive if this happends it could mean other peaple would be fighting for power and the relics and with atlas gone this would be an interesting turn of events also do u think the volume 9 intro will release before the volume itself
It makes sense that ironwood was a queen because they had do do a LOT of work to get him off the board and basically had to surround and isolate him. Since queens are more powerful than the other pieces in what they can do, you often need to distract or trap a queen with one or several pieces so it is a move behind then capture it with another, or force it into a defenting against several pieces. Since players try to protect their queen, often the queen only goes down when it's isolated or other pieces that would protect it are removed from the board. This is basically how they played Ironwood throughout the series, forcing him to act without support because he isn't that strategic on his own (like the scarecrow with no brain). I'm thinking he's not actually that good of a general, because Atlas is confident in their might, technology and isolation and aren't used to ever having to actually be careful or play smart or negotiate, they've just kinda bullied people.
Honestly I don't think Ozpin and Salem are the players. They're the Kings, sure, but there's still a wager one step above them: the gods. This whole mess is essentially the brother gods gambling on which of them is better, Salem and her immortality, or Ozma and his regeneration. Will the world choose destruction, or salvation? Can humanity be redeemed, or not? THAT is the true game at play here, and I think Oz knows it, even if Salem doesn't know or doesn't care. Clearly, she sees herself as a player, but I think in the grand scheme of things that level of control will be undermined. Her war with Oz is the setting upon which the game is being played, but the fate of Remnant is bigger than just them. Oz as King is also extremely fitting, because just like his chess counterpart he has very little actual power. He gave it up to the Maidens (his Queens, I would say) but puts them at risk for doing so. Qrow as a Knight seems like an obvious choice due to his loyalty, but I think instead he's a Bishop: highly mobile and can traverse the board in an instant. Instead, Ironwood is the Knight (though he sees himself as a Queen): better suited to dealing with the things nearby than looking at the bigger picture. Glynda and Lionheart were his Rooks: safe spaces who support their pawns, this in part is what made Leo's betrayal that much more impactful. The kids, Ruby in particular, are pawns on their way to becoming Queens. (I won't speak to Theodore until we actually see him on the show.) Salem's faction is interesting, because of its small size, but also because of Salem playing two roles. She is absolutely the strongest piece on the board, making her Queen, but is also the lynchpin to the game, making her King. I also feel that Salem post-grimmification-but-pre-war-with-Oz didn't WANT the role of King, she was happy to be powerful as long as her actual King was beside her. Now though? She's twisted the game, as she's taken full control with power that no King should have, while at the same time she's groomed Cinder up from a pawn to be a Queen of her own. No wonder it's an unfair game. Her lieutenants are similarly hard to place, but I think I'll put Watts as a Knight and Tyrian as a Bishop for their parallels to Ironwood and Qrow, respectively (narrowminded in Watts' case and deceptively powerful for Tyrian's). Hazel WAS her Rook, solid and unyielding, but where she took Lionheart away from Oz, Oscar in turn took Hazel from her. She looks to replace them with the Silver-Eyed-Grimm: more powerful than pawns, but unwavering in their loyalty. Now Ruby's team is challenging, in part because their roles are not yet fully defined, but also because Ruby up until this point has completely and utterly refused to sacrifice one of her pieces, even when all logic says it's time (Penny). Now while I fully expect something from vol 9 will address this, it also makes placing the players difficult, because she keeps them ALL closer to her chest than strategy dictates. Nevertheless, let's attempt it: Ruby as King, as the last SEW she is invaluable and cannot be killed or the game is lost. Weiss as Queen, not only as her counterpart/partner in crime, but also the person with the highest versatility among RWBYJNRO. Yang as Knight and Blake as Rook, as their varied skillsets really demand separate roles (wow I really do like the short range Knight analogy whoops), but also because Blake I feel is the most solidly committed to the cause, having already completed her character arc in vols 4-6. She is the stable rock for everyone else to lean on, especially an uncertain King. I'm torn on whether Jaune or Oscar should be the other Rook, as Ruby relies heavily on them both, but in the end I will choose Oscar, because I believe Jaune's Semblance and strategy works better in the thick of things, making him better suited as the second Knight, though as a team leader of his own he's unusually independent in this role. This leaves Ren and Nora as the two Bishops, which is kinda eh? But I don't exactly know what else they'd be, and they halfway fit as a powerful fighting force (Nora) and a good forward scout (Ren). (If Jaune was King then Pyrrha would be his Queen, with Nora as Knight and Ren as Rook, I believe, but that's not how the story has gone. Penny is an unfortunate pawn-turned-Queen-turned-sacrifice, mostly through the actions of others, though interestingly she gained her own autonomy after becoming Queen/Maiden and began thinking/acting for herself. What does that say about the autonomy of the other pieces in general or the pawns in particular? That's up to you to decide.)
You know, watching this video and remembering about the other video about how everything began with Summer Rose got me thinking. We know Raven abandoned team STRQ and her family because she didn't trust Ozpin (or more likely she didn't like the idea of being a piece in the on going chess game between Oz and Salem). Maybe Summer also came to the conclusion that she didn't want either herself or her family to end up being pieces as well? But rather than run away from the game, she chose to confront Salem to try and put an end to the game. Basically going against Ozpin's orders just as Cinder did behind Salem's back. What you do think?
Actually, Salem IS the Black Queen, because the Queen stands on the square of her own colour. Ironwood stands on a white square, Salem stands on a black square, therefore they are both queens. It's weird how they've animated that chessboard, cos I'm pretty sure it doesn't line up right unless the pieces are in the wrong places or there's a extra/missing row.
My guess would be either Theodore, the headmaster of Shade Academy or Glynda Goodwitch. It could also be Emerald since it seems like she's being setup to be Oscar's right hand person like Glynda was for Ozpin
If there's gonna be a red faction will there also be a blue faction too? It could be like a four way chess match between white (ozpin) vs. Black (salem) vs. red (possibly ruby) vs. Blue (possibly jaune). a total free for all Also im wondering if the chess symbolism will be presented also in volume 9. Like they might have developed some secret game strategy to help with there own chess board they call a war back in remnant
@@PhoenixNight You're very welcome my good man, I hope we're all ready for Volume 9 because one of the new animators for RWBY said "ya'll aren't ready for this"
Salem being the black faction while traditionally white is the one to make the first move could also imply that she actually didn't start the conflict. But I don't know if that's intentional.
Well, she seemed to be chilling in the woods before Ozma came back, it was only then she decided to take over the world. And the only reason she's going after the relics is because he told her about them. Look at the huntsman academies, Oz builds something up and then she tears it down. There's definitely a pattern there. With every new life Oz has to regroup but Salem has nothing but time.
@@agentquake9914 Yeah, I mean, Ozma rescued Salem from the tower which was the first move that started everything. Also, like you said, Salem was pretty quiet until Ozma came back in his second life. So, Oz would be white because he has made every move first. The question is... Is she seeing through all of his moves? She definitely thinks she is because she seems pretty confident about her strategy. Also, I love your handle. It's been such a long time since I've seen anything Agents of SHIELD related.
@@rebekahstockwell8706 that’s a good point, can’t believe I didn’t think of him rescuing her as well. The way I see it Salem has absolutely nothing to lose and a lot of patience. For all we know she’s spent the last thousand years just testing Oz and humanity to learn how they react to different strategies, never even leaving Evernight, and now she’s in her endgame. And who knows how long she spent riling up humanity against the gods. She has lived so long and she’s mastered discovering everyone’s weaknesses and bringing out the worst in them. Just look at their Atlas strategy, they won before she even arrived by pushing Ironwood till he snapped. I think the way to beat her is to make her lose her cool because that’s the only way she’ll make mistakes. Which is probably why Oz has been so successful 😂 Yeah I love AoS 🦅

"You ever try chess? Sometimes you need to sacrifice a peice to keep the game going" or many peices typically pawns Cause cannonfoder Sounds like huntsmen...
You know? I never thought about the significance of chess in relation to RWBY. I think Cinder sees herself as the next Queen. I also believe that Salem wants to overthrow Salem and rule over Remnant. Why else would she seek the Maiden powers, and lie to Salem about what happens.
@@chairkun3095 Cinder's shown she doesn't like kept in the dark from Salem. You can see her hesitation at times when it comes to obeying Salem. She was a slave once. She's a slave again.
I'll be honest, I always thought Ironwood was the strongest within Ozpin's inner circle, but he broke so easily when he surrendered to madness, if you guys want my most honest opinion, Ironwood was a mistake to be in Ozpin's said inner circle, he chose to sacrifice those around him, turned his back on the ones who would've saved Atlas, he even threaten to bomb civilians to get what he wanted, these weren't the acts of a soldier, these were the acts of a dictating terrorist, and a traitor.
Cinder has always been the real black queen btw, I'm pretty sure of it, even though Ironwood assumed it meant Salem herself. I think that was intentional misdirection - Ironwood seemed to liken the presence of the queen to meaning Salem herself had been inside his fortress even though he was at an advantage at that point in the game. But that emblem is her calling card, not Salem's and shows how she views herself. Salem never actually told her lieutenants they had to use the queen symbol in order to get to Ironwood, that may well have just been Cinder's egotistical embellishment. My reasons for saying this are that it's always been associated with her, and Ruby even links the piece in vol 7 to her to her because it's made of glass. Salem's whole play has been distracting Watts while she moved in. Salem might not actually even know about the queen itself being planted - her whole goal was infiltration and distraction. Cinder placed the grimm messenger - that was Salem's orders, but the queen itself may not have been required. Also end of season 1 when Qrow messages Oz that "Queen has pawns" remember he's been tracking the people who ambushed the fall maiden - it's likely he's talking about Mercury and Emerald as the pawns of Cinder, whom they don't know the identity of hence her codename of "the queen" and we then see Emerald and Mercury right after, at the beginning of season 2. Cinder's power comes from her actual physical maiden power as well as her devious nature and as we see at the end of S8, she is more powerful than any of the others pieces except for Salem, who is the king. Also it makes sense - Salem and Oz, like chess kings in real life, have hung back from the fight. They have let other people do their work for them, even keeping to the shadows - Salem's literally stayed out of sight and Oz when he reincarnated kept his identity a secret as far as possible from as many as possible. Though Salem is wary of Cinder's ambitions for power, she definitely plays her like a queen and by the end of volume 8 she's definitely the second most powerful person after Salem. Though before then she may have actually been more like a pawn with ambitions to become a queen. I think Salem views all of her lieutenants as "mere" pawns and doesn't actually think any of them can challenge her even if they become as powerful as queens, because she is the king and unchallengeable, at least in her own mind. Cinder seems to disagree and be biding her time though. Maybe she doesn't understand chess though. She does tend to become drunk with power. 🤔 Maybe she's unlearned that tendency now though thanks to Watts' lesson.
Ruby identified the glass chess piece as meaning that Cinder had been there, but Ironwood was consumed with Salem as you'll notice in that exchange when he shows them the chess piece after capturing Watts, and in everything he says after and all that follows.
I never really thought that General Ironwood was Ozpin's queen, I actually thought it was Glinda GoodWitch. Considering the facts said in this video I come to the conclusion that General Ironwood and Cinder are both queens. I believe that Cinder is Salem's queen beacause she is the most powerfull piece on the board. Not only Cinder is the most powerfull piece, but she was also the one that wanted to take control of the game since vol 4. Cinder clearly did not wanted to stay with Salem. Cinder much like General Ironwood thought she knew better. Example of this behavior can be seen in vol. 5 and 8. Anyway this is just my opinion. Thank you for sharing more for your RWBY analysis. As always your videos are great. Have a good one Phoenix Night. 👍
Also I doubt with the 18/20 volumes that Monty planned that this game has not been written in stone... How much of it was no one outside of RT knows but trust me it was... So yeah the whole no game no life is liked a ceqcdence as I doubt the whole RWBY story was not done beofore that came out.
Jaune & white shared queen right now how term power & knowledge but term in action jaune more alike knight & white more like queen but rwby more is king & pawn as pawn still as pawn but she is hold group she shared this with Oscar but Blake & yang shared more like knight & rook how they defend & attack more like but for Nora is rook she willing take it heavy work load but Ren is knight support Nora but for winter is knight but she hold queen position right now lead Weis family left is pawn qrow group is mostly knight & rook but goody was queen but right now knight or pawn but she mostly knight ready support her students in mind right now in rwby group is unstable chess piece sense word change place ment but for Salem mindset certain move desire not fully understand move alike qrow will join his sister or request help or good their support qrow
At the end of the game, the king and pawn go back into the same box. I think your interpretation of the chess game is a bit off. A king is still a just a piece of the game. Salem and Ozma aren't players they are the pieces and the gods are the players. Salem obviously thinks otherwise, but overestimating herself is kinda her thing.
True, I can understand that perspective and it was something I considered as well. It does make sense since the gods created humanity and made Salem immortal, but if the gods are the players, then the chess analogy doesn't work. The gods aren't fighting eachother. They may have created the game but it is still Ozpin and Salem playing it. After the gods made Salem and Ozpin immortal, they have not interacted with the world at all so they can't really be considered as 'playing the game'. As far as we know at least. If we learn more then I will happily revisit this idea (which I might need to throughout Volume 9 anyways) but for now I think it fits that the Kings are the ones in control and playing the game which is Ozpin and Salem.
@@goddesssalem4842 (calmly says) no its not and it never will be for that false goddess this is team rwby's story and not salem's. nice try and never come back.😈😈
What if the gods never return, even if the they are summoned. Because Unite humanity is like a impossible task. And if ospin would somehow be able to Do it, he would that it was pointless
Even if the gods came back and everything was fine, how long would it take for another Salem (aka Cinder) to piss them off. The only satisfactory ending I can see is for them to tell the gods to leave again, find a third option between the world ending and from what I see, the world ending somewhere down the line.
The funny thing about pawns is that they can become Queens.
Jaune and Ren best drag queens.
@@chairkun3095 jaune is the most powerful queen. He wore a dress after all 😂
Cinder isn't a Pawn though
what I've been thinking Cinder over throwing Salem taking her place as the Black queen
@@jonathonsirlord8251
As I said, she's not a Pawn
Cinder is just not a Player according to Salem
I think that means, Salem plans on getting rid of Cinder if she starts to become a Threatto her plan
Honestly, I've always seen ironwood as either a rook or knight instead of a queen.
But thinking back on it, it's funny how ozpin chose chess pieces as relics way back in vol 1 during the initiation. JNPR took the rooks, and RWBY took the knights.
Just what I was thinking watching this video. Not sure where that leads to though 🤔
I completely forgot to mention the relics from the Beacon initiation but that just adds even more to the Chess references. Good catch!
@@PhoenixNight And of course, the two-part episode with that initiation arc was called Players and Pieces.
@@Wolfeson28 Oh Right! I had missed that as well! Good catch! Even more Chess references in RWBY XD
@@PhoenixNight RWBY 9 5
I'd say yangs more a rook then a knight.
Due to her loyalty to her friends and ruby.
weiss as queen doesn't make sense with her being one of the weaker members of the squad
@@shadow-faye understandable but she is the most versatile and her summons have plenty of power. Plus in chess even the weakest piece pawn can take down a queen.
I fucking love your videos. It makes my love my favorite show even more. I hope you grow to be huge because you deserve it.
I will say this until the final episode: how has it not cross Salem’s mind that the gods will continue to spite her and make her more miserable?
And that some pieces, may have more than one chracter.)
King: Ruby.
Queen: Weiss/ winter. (The former because of partnership during beacon. And the latter, because of her maiden powers.)
Rooks: Yang/Nora.
Knights: Jaune/Weiss. (Jaune and weiss are obvious, because of their lineages. Despite the latters summons, which would technically put her as a bishop.)
Bishops: Ren/Blake.
And that Red queen might ruby rose
I think Salem's Knights are gonna be more of those special Grimm
RWBY and JNPR were much easier when you recall the relics they acquired during the Beacon Initiation.
No.
@@steelscorpion9114
Oh, interesting...
The players being : Salem, Ozpin, The Gods, Team RWBY
they've been doing that?!
Hm, how very interesting, I think this is pretty accurate, let’s see how this Game plays from here.
I think
White Queen: Ironwood
Bishops: Raven and Qrow - cause of how they can move diagonally (which to me seems kinda sneaky and less direct, hence spies) and across the board and also they can fly far. ;) Also they're closer to the king and queen than the other pieces.
So maybe before she goes back to Remnant she will have become the third queen in the ultimate game and bring a new perspective that is neither Oz's nor Salem's.
thats would actually be an awesome idea as i do remember rooster teeth sayiny they wanna keep the rwby series going as long as possible
so introducing us to a new faction and player in the story could be awesome having ozpin and his faction fight against salem and the red rebellion would be in interesting turn i do beleive if this happends it could mean other peaple would be fighting for power and the relics and with atlas gone this would be an interesting turn of events
also do u think the volume 9 intro will release before the volume itself
(I won't speak to Theodore until we actually see him on the show.)
Salem's faction is interesting, because of its small size, but also because of Salem playing two roles.
Phoenix, soon to review every anime related to chess on this earth.
The whole school thing going wrong with an underlying evil thing is very Soul Eater but we don't see you make a Soul Eater channel lmao
Galaxy brain analogy: Oscar is a Checkers piece moving towards becoming a king. 🤡
Since Oscar is gonna become the new king, any idea who will be the new queen?
My guess would be either Theodore, the headmaster of Shade Academy or Glynda Goodwitch.
It could also be Emerald since it seems like she's being setup to be Oscar's right hand person like Glynda was for Ozpin
If there's gonna be a red faction will there also be a blue faction too? It could be like a four way chess match between white (ozpin) vs. Black (salem) vs. red (possibly ruby) vs. Blue (possibly jaune). a total free for all
Also im wondering if the chess symbolism will be presented also in volume 9. Like they might have developed some secret game strategy to help with there own chess board they call a war back in remnant
Red vs Blue reference?

Salem being the black faction while traditionally white is the one to make the first move could also imply that she actually didn't start the conflict.
But I don't know if that's intentional.
Well, she seemed to be chilling in the woods before Ozma came back, it was only then she decided to take over the world. And the only reason she's going after the relics is because he told her about them. Look at the huntsman academies, Oz builds something up and then she tears it down. There's definitely a pattern there. With every new life Oz has to regroup but Salem has nothing but time.

Yeah, I mean, Ozma rescued Salem from the tower which was the first move that started everything.
Which is probably why Oz has been so successful 😂

You know? I never thought about the significance of chess in relation to RWBY. I think Cinder sees herself as the next Queen. I also believe that Salem wants to overthrow Salem and rule over Remnant. Why else would she seek the Maiden powers, and lie to Salem about what happens.
Honestly I just think Cinder wants power for power's sake. I don't really think she wants to rule Remnant.
@@chairkun3095 Cinder's shown she doesn't like kept in the dark from Salem. You can see her hesitation at times when it comes to obeying Salem. She was a slave once. She's a slave again.
Salem overthrow salem lol
Maybe put your new channel in the channels section of this channel.
Thank you for the reminder! I had planned to do so right away but I forgot lol
Salem will win this conflict one way or another, those relics will come together.
i think team rwby might get the last laugh.
@@arkdragon222 I don't think so, this is salems story, not theirs
@@goddesssalem4842 (calmly says) no its not and it never will be for that false goddess this is team rwby's story and not salem's. nice try and never come back.😈😈
@@arkdragon222 Never come back ?, wow. You clearly can't take a joke. Some weird people on the Internet.
@@goddesssalem4842 if its joke then ok but it didnt look like it.🤔
What if the gods never return, even if the they are summoned.
