    I had the exact car- bought it in Red Deer, AB, Canada for $400 in 1994 ex RCMP car from Jaspar, AB at an auction. It was a steal for a 7 year old car no one wanted. Stab proof buckets and all. Mine had a dual exhaust with big mufflers- it was fast. It also had a 4 speed auto overdrive and wouldn't shift into 4th unless you were cruising at least 120klm. I have no idea how fast it was as I was young and too chicken to take it past 180klm. Mine had a locking diff for the snow up here in Canada.

    One giveaway of a municipal/fleet car is the "Certified Calibration" on the speedometer. That means a fleet/gov't/police package car. Also, many times, the middle part of the seating was made to be removable (not sure about 1986, but that's how it is today the 40/20/40 seating has the 20 middle that comes out). That's because a radio/lighting console would have gone there to control the emergency lights, spotlights, and to house two-way radio equipment. I wonder if this is a 1985, only because I do not see the required 3rd brake light (what's there looks like aftermarket equipment). I was hoping for a quick shot of the door jamb label so I could check it through the VIN. LOL. I believe the carburetor on this series of car was a 2150 Variable Venturi (not one of Ford's finest moments). Yes, it's a 351 Windsor. They used this carbureted engine in the fleet cars through 1991 I believe.

    • @scottkrafft6830

Don't remember what year they eliminated that rule. I want to say around the same time they repealed the 5 MPH bumpers back to 2 1/2 MPH bumpers probably around 1988 or 1989.

    For sure it was an old police car. Besides the stuff you mentioned, most of them have an 85 mph speedometer, just like a 3-cyl Geo Metro.
    The regular ones do have a crappy 4.9L (marketed as 5.0L) rated at about 130 HP. The 5.8L made 180 HP.
    A few more giveaways is the lack of chrome (which they put a TON on with the regular ones, it looked kind of shitty), and the lack of a hood ornament.

    • @moonbeamskies3346
      @moonbeamskies3346 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have to disagree, the 302 was an excellent engine. We had several in my family and they were bullet proof, very reliable. If you had a Crown Vic, LTD, Thunderbird, Grand Marquis, Town Car, etc. with a 302 you knew it was worry-free. I just looked it up, they were 4.942 liters, so technically you are correct it rounds to 4.9, but it's pretty close to 5.0 so I wouldn't worry about that slight fudge on Ford's part. I'll always regard the Ford 302, Chevy 305 and Chrysler 318 as great American engines.

  • @adamtrombino106
    @adamtrombino106 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ford had 2 versions of the police Crown Vic. 1 a patroller with the STD TBI 302 but with all the other HD goodies like brakes, suspension, dual exhausts, recalibrated AOD, wiring package, and the coolers. ( late 83 -85 1/2) The other was an Interceptor package with the main difference being the 351 with variable venturi carb.. ( which we all know was a finicky temperamental unit, to be nice) . 87 to 01 the 302 was SMFI, I can't remember when they changed the 351 to that system, maybe 89? I worked on a lot of them back in the day. This example might have had the aux gauge package on the dash, as I see there are screw holes for where some pods were mounted. I really never saw a std mounting place. Sometimes they were where the stock radio was, it depended on who was doing the conversions. I also don't recall cloth buckets, but do recall vinyl 1's in some cars. Civi cars all had the 85 mph speedo. Only police cars got the 140 certified unit. Rare to see this car pretty much undisturbed now days.

    You're a Youngblood that's for sure. In 1986 the speedometer went up to 85 believe it or not. They started that in 1978 with a big circle around 55 miles per hour because that was the Federal Highway speed limit. The cop car is much different. And you're right the door locks are on top except for this cop car. It makes it harder to Jimmy open. Bucket seats always in a cop car. Don't you see how far apart they are? That was room for gun racks. Schooled by 1967

    351 was optional on Police Vics, up to 1991; many got 302's

      Correct, only about 10 out of every 100 came with the 351 engine.

      @@1staircavalry I don't think anything was really wrong with it. That junkyard is just weird about what they choose to crush right away, what they choose to part out and what they choose to sell

    If you buy this get ready to dump a lot of money in to it and to hear that No body knows how to work on it. I put everything New on my 86 and it's still is not right. Trans $1,200 no tork and does not shift right after engine gets hot it shuts down. Again all brand new stuff and still heart broken.

    Bro can you buy any of these cars ? Or will they only let you take parts off them, cause you be coming across some solid finds 💯

      Its a regular junkyard. You can pull your own parts but they crush cars quickly as its a very small yard
