Simply amazing!! What inspiration for all children to see Olympia not only speaking PERFECT Chinese but also being interested in such skills! Well done Olympia! I am in awe! Bravo!
Japan: Nuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!! You can't just teach your traditional thousand year old sword making techniques to anyone who comes to visit in only 5 minutes!!!!!!!! Longquan: Hehe~ Quenching go PSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH
Well its not like she could steal his techniques in 5 minutes and go home and start manufacturing anyway. Maybe she'll join and become a swordsmith after this hahaha
revolversmoke Well, it's no longer a secret since it's been modern, some one post it online and the hole world knows it, also modern mass produced swords are not that kinds of techniques stuff, for example: WW2 Japanese use machines to just smash a piece of metal more thin so it's sharp, at the end they got a cheap trash sharp metal bar, and use it good on massacring millions(not joking, really) of Chinese(also some smaller South Asia countries) civilians, for doing this gigantic war crime, they can't really equip every one with a nicely hand made sword.
Well I have to admit this is the first time I saw making a chinese double edge sword in very traditional way that is actually accurate to ancient times!!! The most surprising thing is I never heard or saw about washing iron sand in the lake!!! That is very new for me!!! 😲😲 This video is very informative!!!
@@xyz-g3w6b "...doesn’t live in some silly fantasy world" Were we watching the same video? She went to China and stayed with a swordsmith. She didn't go to Narnia or teleport to fucking Hogwarts.
So unreal ...... In ancient China, there is a saying to describe a good sword or saber: 1, Blow at a bunch of hairs held against the edge, the hairs should all fall in two parts. That is the sharpness of the sword edge; 2, Chop at a piece of metal like it is a piece of mud. That is the strength of the sword; 3, Chop off a human's head without leaving any blood stain on the blade. That is how smooth the blade should be. When I see the so-called sword smith fails to cut through the bamboo in one blow at the beginning, I know he is not making the real stuff. He is also not very well culturally and historically versed. It is purely commercial. Shenguanglong is a big brand in China and sells a lot of fancy swords.
I'd go into it too ... My dream is to make such swords. I have to learn blacksmithing myself. :-( Having such a master who would explain everything, would be priceless.
Forgot to show tempering of the blade, if not done the sword will be hard but brittle and will break when coming in contact with another sword. Tempering makes the sword flexible without breaking.
There's a way to carry the water in a more efficient manner. For the hammering, if you used force from the lower diaphragm and carry thru throughout the body to the hands, with a wider range of strike, it'll be more powerful and less straining on ur hands.
It’s interesting watching this video as, I always assumed that the Japanese were the sword masters of the oriental countries. But every day is a school day and I learnt something new 👍
Actually the Katana was originated from Tang dynasty sword. It wasn't a popular sword in China as there are better, sharper and more durable sword along the dynasties. It was later adopted by Japan after they visit Tang then commonly used in Japan due to its difficulty to find a good quality and purity steel in Japan. Katana got so popular because the manga and anime portray it as a godlike weapon, but majority of us didn't know that it was one of the strategy by Japanese to re-brand the Japanese Bushido image after the WW2 as the Japanese imperial army killed million of civilians including women, children and new born babies with Katana, captured in vintage photos.
It's not a real Han sword. It's not even in the right shape. Defective products of modern industry. If you want to know the real Han sword, please see my personal homepage. There are some Han sword relics on it.
@vcas2911 funny since the chinese coped the katana, even contemporary Chinese sources say that Japanese swords were better. As for the war crime angle, I can talk all about the many Chinese Civil wars, where they did worse things to each other, at an larger scale, did you forget the Taiping rebellion where millions also died?.
Yeah, but WHICH sword maker did you work with???? Long Quan has many sword manufacturers and they are all in competition with each other. Long Quan is the Industrial part of China that makes swords. So many companies are in Long Quan alone!!!
00:46 She said to "fight like a real swordmans", subtitle is wrong. Also, I felt like she wanted to go to China to find an ancient sword in a cave and uncover some long lost sword art and become a warrior. But instead, she got put to manual labour... xD
Hey Gal!! you've only realised how much of a work is sword making by merely engaging yourself in only just 1% of it only in 1 particular style of sword!!! Sword making is a whole big Universe of its own!!! Swords has been a source of pride and power across the world since mankind waged war between two nation, sects etc. Like we all come from different nation, races, colours, regions the same goes to swords too!!! Over the course of history of mankind, swords have seen vast changes and variation in style!!!
it’s almost hard to watch this because the young lady looks EXACTLY like my high school sweatheart. it’s eerie. amy names john bobbitt, though. I don’t know if i’d have been as comfortable around her if she’d been into blades that much
Very cool to see a lady interested in such weapons, someday perhaps you'll make your own but, like you said you must do it with the heart but also mind and soul it must be the embodiment of your thoughts becoming reality and one of the most important things you must give it meaning. Good job lady 👍.
Display sword and battle sword are different, the "making of" showed in this clip is clearly belong to display sword, which have more detail on decoration, but less focus on the blade it self.
it's a sword culture museum, used to display the individual processes of sword making, the actual sword they used at the end is obviously not made in that museum.
if your asking for a sword made by a master then it's gonna cost you 2k to 20k if you want a good sword for a good price go to swords of northshire they make great chinese swords in the 500$ range made by great smiths you can even have them sign the blade with their name i dont know the company for these swords though
Look at Hanbon Forge's Chinese swords. They directly deal with swordsmiths in Longquan, China. All their swords come with a certificate of authenticity too.
Ancient China had huge armies. Unless there were master blacksmiths working behind every tree, someone had to mass produce arms at a furious rate when needed. Is there any record of a Chinese Henry Ford way back then? And do any examples of their work still survive?

Swords have a soul, if it is made by hands, a blacksmith puts it into it with his hard work, sweat, blood and thoughts he thinks in forging.
