Your art is just so amazing! It's almost unfair that you're so good at drawing AND sculpting. What is this black magic? Anyways, this was beautiful, and I look forward to the next video.
I think both skills are complementary to each other. If you can draw you have understanding of proportion, so it's easier to make desired shape, if you can sculpt, you have better understanding of shape in space, so you draw better. It's like, "i don't know how to carve it, let's draw it first" and "i don't know how to draw it in that angle, let's carve a 3D model" 😆
Iam an 83 year old artist. I am primarily a sculptor (first show at nine years of age). A technigue I use in wood sculpture when there are gaps or large cracks; is to cut wedges of wood , after a "glue" coat of resin in the cracks, drive the wedges into the voids, one after another, until void is full and epoxied. I have gotten to where i no longer worry if it is the same color. Once "finished" it provides "character"! nice work!! Loren
What I wouldn't give for the sketches you did of this. They are so pretty and have so much character. Thank you again for bringing us into your creative process and showing all the trials and errors that come with such challenging designs.
I watch a lot of wood carvers here on youtube and while their work is incredible, none have the drawing skills you do - its the most beautiful, inspiring, and impressive work i’ve seen in a while❤
You are very gifted and talented. Your work is absolutely wonderful. You do amazing detailed sketches and woodwork. The Queen of Winter is awesome. I love owls, and you portrayed her so well.
The one great thing about carving is that you can change the design if needed. I've done quite a few where I've gone from first design to totally different...if your happy with it then that's the bonus...don't forget, you are your greatest critic.
F***ing gorgeous. I had a similar concept I wanted to craft. Owls and barn owls are simply a natural sculpture, their anatomy is astounding. I'm saving your vids for reference.
She turned out beautifully! I personally like the eyes without pupils. She looks very mysterious and the drawings you made of her are also incredibly beautiful! I wish you a good holiday season and a beautiful start into the next year. ❤❤
Thank you! You know i do agree, i was a bit afraid that the shape of the log would make those tricky to carve.. i wished i had 4 times more time so i could make all of them!
Thank you Jonas for showing your design process as well as this amazing sculpture! Have a wonderful Yule season and looking forward to seeing you progress in the New Year!
Я очарованна вашей работай. Слежу за вашем творчеством давно. Пишу впервые. Я влюбленна в вас и вашу мастерскую, мечтаю самой достичь вашего уровня. Спасибо, что Вы есть!
Those antlers are looking really great. You have to ‘offer’ a log for them, but totally worth it. Well my friend, it’s been a great year watching you create the amazing sculptures you’ve made. I’m especially happy that you have been able to follow your plan. Create, learn and getting better ánd taking care of yourself. That, in my opinion is the best accomplishment you’ve made this year. And the result of that, we can all see. Have a great Christmas!
Your work is severely underrated, the curves of the sculpture almost seem natural and the detail is exquisite. Why is no one being recommended your videos in the TH-cam Algorithm?
Another excellent sculpture !!! I love seeing your progress drawings. You are very talented in drawing, and I am excited to hear you are offering copies after the New Year. I would REALLY encourage you to pursue the children's book as well. Your drawings have a "deep knowing/magical" feel to them. DO think about showing the drawings alongside your sculptures. I think people would enjoy that. Another thought is to use the drawings as greeting cards. I have done it before myself, and it is quite easy to do. The quality is dependent on price, so, do investigate! I would suggest some companies I have used, but they are USA based, so, don't think it would help much ! I would glad buy greeting cards with your images on the outside. I would suggest leaving the inside blank, then people can use them for any reason. Enjoy your time off and being outside in Mother Nature !
Man, you're so damn good with symmetry. I've always struggled with that, even as a kid. I have to draw with the paper between 45° and almost 90° at an angle toward me, so I'm usually drawing a picture sideways to how I'm sitting. I haven't seen any other artist with this pronounced of a tilt, but that's just how it's always worked for me. I can't draw straight up and down, and this gives me issues with symmetry like these images. I admire people who can freehand really symmetrical pictures and shapes like that. You're an amazing artist!
I know this is an older video now, but I hope you see this. I love your sculptures, but I am not in a position to purchase one. However, your sketch work is also stunning, and I adore your idea of a children's book. What about making a crazy high end hardcover coffee table book that is more art book, but has a story running through it? The theme of magical winter owls would make such a GORGEOUS seasonal gift and I think it would sell well. If you do, let me know and I'll help you promote it.
YES I AM OBSESSED WITH OWLS RIGHT NOW, THEY'RE SO CUTE AND YOUR SCULPTURE IS SO MAJESTIC AND PRETTY, I love pretty things and this sculpture is no exception :)
I stumbled upon your channel and am more than pleasantly surprised at your incredible creative talent and the humaness you capture in your process!!! Thank you for the genuine content😊. I very much appreciate how you include a lot of your design steps, your thoughts and humor. I now have caught up on your past videos and your work is unbelievable! i also, second everyone's requests for you to share (and or sell) more of your sketching process too. They are in themselves amazing peices of art. How cool to see some of them come to life in sculpture form!? Is that your favorite part? Lastly, the reveal of the wood grain when you oil them is so satisfying!!🤗 thank you again
Hmm my favourite part of the process is the designing process and the moment i get to see the final sculpture. But i try to appreciate the whole process
That is crazy man, I love that you were able to keep to your plan. Keep doing what you are doing and inspiring others. Post January 10 for a birthday gift😂😂
This is beautiful and reminds me of a D&D character from rime of the frostmaiden. I’m looking forward to being able to buy wall art since I move so often
That was a pretty epic year from you! great finish👌😮Thanks for bringing us along on your art journey and hope you have a very Merry Christmas. Maybe ask Santa for a shop vac?✨️
Beautiful finish, well done. Just had a thought about the crack at the back, what about copper staples criss-cross down the back? They don't need to be loads but, like the butterfly joints, a few copper staples would blend lovely with the wood...
The way your unique drawing skill transfers immaculately and so fluid into your carving is impeccable. You are special sir. I admire your talent. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Fantastic video and outstanding sculpture (as usual). As for your workshop, if you are comfortable and able to create (which you most assuredly do), then it’s fine. Don’t get stressed about it. Clean and reorganize as the need arises (or when you need a break from sketching or carving). Have a very merry, happy and restful holiday season ❤
Gorgeous, stunning, remarkable!!! I hope that you'll someday create a sculpture showing wind or water, because every piece of your art that I've seen shows such movement anyway, that it makes me wonder how you'd interpret those motions into a carving.
Looks great, those prints are so detailed. As for losing stuff cause of mess, pocketed apron to put pencils/brushes/chisel/knife you use often can be a small step. Enjoy the xmas break, till the next work.
Muy buenos y hermosos tus ESCUTURAS sigue haci es bueno ver tus tallados , Y dijiste algo importante mantener limpio y ordenaodo el taller mis felicitaciones desde Cordoba Argentina
Jonas I have only just found you & I’m blown away by your art & woodworking talent. Could you make an elephant with/without tusks. If without perhaps you could challenge yourself to do a mother & baby?❤
Beautiful 😍 If I didn’t have surgery recently, I’d buy a copy of your drawings. Maybe in the future after I get back to working! Wishing you a great new year 🎉
I held my breath when you almost tipped it over at 10:30 😧 It ended up looking as great as your other pieces. You mentioned your exhibition. When and where? It's quite a bit of travel from Sweden even though it's a neighboring country, but still doable. Could be a fun trip 🙂👍
12:15 “I am proud to say that I never cut any corners” hehe. Puns. Your drawings and your sense of shape inspire me in my own art. I’m quickly becoming obsessed with your channel. The first one I saw was Amodius, and now I’m binge-watching, lol. The sculptures work so well in the reveals. If you’re taking unsolicited suggestions, can I request captions (though the auto-captions are pretty good these days)?
Wow! Your owl is awesome! I swear your work gets more wonderful each time. And your drawings as always are so talented. Still wishing I had even 5 percent of your talent! Thank you for sharing.
She is amazing! Thank you for sharing your journey with us so far. I have no doubt that your exhibition will be awesome! We will definitely see you next month 💙💙💙
Your sculpting has improved greatly and it really shows in the creativity and quality of your work. Keep experimenting, keep trying new things and if it works, you have more to your repertoire of skills. Your sculptures are magnificent and I love how you add a fantasy twist to them. It keeps things different and gives you a niche not many else can say they have. Thank you for sharing your work with us and the process it takes to do them. And may 2024 bring you ever more success in your endeavors!
Hey Mr. Jonas, what a stunning piece again, I looooooooooooove idea with the antlers that is just my style a little mysterious a little dramatic wowwwww. Congratulations to you Mr. Jonas, see as I told you in the beginning of this year, I know you can do this and you did, I have faith in you. You have done a great job. Wishing you a Wonderfull Christmas time to you and all around you.
my jaw literally dropped when i saw the drawings youre going to sell!! the detail, the shading, the atmosphere,,,
Thank you so much! I bought myself a nice printer as a christmas present so i am looking very much forward to offer prints
Such great news
They are a genius, brilliant.
Your reference drawings alone are impressive, I'm glad to witness such beauty with my own eyes.
Thank you so much! I am happy to show some of the designing process in my video
Your art is just so amazing! It's almost unfair that you're so good at drawing AND sculpting. What is this black magic? Anyways, this was beautiful, and I look forward to the next video.
Thank you! Hmmm yeah what is the magic behind it 🤔 I would say faith in a better tomorrow and digging for deep meaning to ground my motivation with.
I think both skills are complementary to each other. Hey! I can imagine that would produce a pretty unique effect. I might have seen something similar done somewhere before.
What I wouldn't give for the sketches you did of this. They are so pretty and have so much character. Thank you again for bringing us into your creative process and showing all the trials and errors that come with such challenging designs.
Well they are drawn on loose paper so maybe i should put them in my shop wuite cheap as a thank you. I will seriously concider it tomorrow
That would be amazing!! I absolutely love original art and I think you'd have a lot of interest in those sketches@@Jonasolsenwoodcraft
I watch a lot of wood carvers here on youtube and while their work is incredible, none have the drawing skills you do - its the most beautiful, inspiring, and impressive work i’ve seen in a while❤
There's something sexy about applying the oil to the finished work. Needless to say, it's another stunning piece.
You are very gifted and talented. Your work is absolutely wonderful. You do amazing detailed sketches and woodwork. The Queen of Winter is awesome. I love owls, and you portrayed her so well.

Have a great vacation and I hope 2024 is an even better year for you.
i love how you're showing more of the sketching and brainstorming process in this video, it's cool to see all the ideas!
I appreciate the feedback, perhaps talking more about the process and i draw would be nice 🤔
I love the owl you drew with his head tilted !
I do agree! Maybe i have to make it one day
Looks like a model, sculpts like a genius, draws like a master, voice like a god. 👑👑👑👑
Oh thats a lot to take in! If i can be unique with my craft that is enough for me!
Barn owls are my favorite. You carved this piece to perfection. I really like it 🦉
Thank you! I will have to agree!
Wooo I can't believe you are selling prints from January!!! My debit card is ready!!!!!!
Haha this made me giggle. I am looking a lot forward to the launch! And hopefully i have made a few more drwings untill then

Almost 230k subscribers, sponsorships, you are well on your way to becoming famous for your sculptures.
Great work this year!
Thank you! I take none of it for granted! But i also know that things can change quickly, that is why i try to focus mainly on physical sculptures
Her antlers look like a part of her crown! Well done!

i personally really loved the 2nd and 3rd sketches
the end result is still very beautiful tho
Thank you! You know i do agree, i was a bit afraid that the shape of the log would make those tricky to carve.. i wished i had 4 times more time so i could make all of them!

Jaw dropped! Thought this was Auril the Frostmaiden! She's beautiful😍
Thank you so much!
Lovely sculpture and drawings!!! 😊
Thank you so much! Looking forward to do more of that drawing

Thank you for the nice words and feedback! It is so valuable to me. It can sometimes be tricky to figure out the right path and you help me with that
The craftsmanship is truly impressive. 👍👍👍
Thank you! I have a lot of fun making these sculptures
Beautiful work!! Those drawings are just woooaaaaa😮
Awesome design and finished product.
Ngl the whistle at around 7:00 scared tf outta me 😂

Thank you for sharing.
You are very welcome! I really appreciate the support
Thank you for taking me on this journey with you this year Jonas. You are a very special person with a special talent to share with the world.
Thank you! That means a lot to me to hear!

Oh Jonas! She is magnificent! She reminds me a bit of the owls in the Beatrix Potter books I had as a child. Well done, beautiful work
Thank you so much! That is very cool to hear!
I wish I had a quarter of the talent you have, beautiful work.
Thank you! If i ever get rich i have a plan to create a free workshop for people to enjoy making things and find meaning in it!

Thank you! I have a lot of fun with my projects

Awesome! Thank you Jonas 🙏 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 💫
Thank you! Happy new year and merry christmas to you as well
You will sell at your opening because your work is incredible. The big cat is astounding and if it were I, it would stay in my home. Just phenomenal!

*Leonardo di Caprio pointing meme* It's Auril the frostmaiden! (From Dungeons and Dragons)
She's so pretty too, I love it.
Thank you! I will need to check that out
Another incredible accomplishment. Congratulations on completing your goal. You are an inspiration.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that a lot!
I do look forward to seeing all your works together in an exhibition . sadly it could only be virtually at this stage I'm in western Australia
Well i will try my best to film the event
The sample prints you showed are very beautiful. They all have a mystical aura, very cool!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely stunning! And that patch on the stand fills in beautifully
Thank you! Yeah it was fun to give a repair like that a try. Will for sure do it again if i need to
My neighbor cut down an old maple...man, how I wish pieces could go to this....nice work!
Thank you! Maple would be interesting to try one day.
Impressive, I wish you the best of luck with your exhibition
Thank you so much! It is very exciting for me
This is beautiful and reminds me of a D&D character from rime of the frostmaiden. I’m looking forward to being able to buy wall art since I move so often
Thank you!
Than you for the visual of your creation❤ may your Holidays be full of wonder!!!
I like the 2nd deaign most..but all designs are as awsome as always.nice job sir
Absolutely impressive! Superb work! I especially like when the oil is applied; the sculpture seems to come to life with the oil.
Thank you so much! The oiling is a bit event for me as well.
very cool!
Thank you so much!
I’m surprised you didn’t go with a snowy owl tbh. But barn owls are one of my favorite species of owl so can’t really complain XD
I would like to try to make that one as well one day!
Wow such talent in your hands 👍 sculpture so mystical 🦉🦉🦉🦉 cheers Stephen 🤠⭐🦅👍🍀
Thank you!

You are special sir. I admire your talent. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Opala = owl + impala
It’s really beautiful

I am very happy to hear that! Being creative and having fun with it is so important
Your creations are so impressive ! Happy holidays Jonas !
Thank you! Happy holidays!
Looks great, those prints are so detailed. As for losing stuff cause of mess, pocketed apron to put pencils/brushes/chisel/knife you use often can be a small step. Enjoy the xmas break, till the next work.
Good idea. I should have a work vest or something

Beautiful 😍
If I didn’t have surgery recently, I’d buy a copy of your drawings. Maybe in the future after I get back to working!
Wishing you a great new year 🎉

Thanks & Welcome! 🥰

I loved the twisty base you kept drawing and deleting lol
Yeah its quite the process, perhaps i ended up discarding the best design

Thank you! I hope so too!
Great job this year, truly inspiring thanks for sharing
felt my whole body tense when you almost knocked it off its stand lol. Amazing piece as always dude
Yeah i included it in the video since it was so random
