    In this video we carry out a full flight, in the newly released PMDG Boeing 737-600, within Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS).
    We will be taking the aircraft on a morning shuttle, from Glasgow Airport (EGPF), down to London Stansted (EGSS).

    The amount of depth and care PMDG place on everything from avionics to flight dynamics and modeling is astounding. I think, as a third party flight sim developer, they deserve the most praise and support for consistently high quality work. They also fill an extremely important blank in MSFS with respect to realism as, generally speaking, the base aircraft are not as detailed as they could be.

      Yes, PMDG do a very nice job with their output and have done pretty consistently for many years now. It's brilliant as well to see their pricing coming down a little (or a lot) in MSFS, since I think their products were previously somewhat inaccessible to many. The 600 is a really nice offering in the sim and should mean that almost everyone can now afford a "study level" jet - something which I think will be great news for the hobby!

    Hi, just a mention about bypassing speed and altitude restrictions. The 737 has a way to do that without leaving LNAV/VNAV. On the autopilot there’s buttons labels “spd intv” and “alt intv” which will bypass the next speed or altitude restriction listed on the FMS. If you use alt intv you may have to press it several times to bypass several altitude restrictions i.e. most British departures with their 4000-6000 altitude restrictions.

      Thank you very much for the pointer David. I was actually annoyed at myself watching that part of the video back haha, as I was aware of the “spd intv” and “alt intv” buttons / modes, but my brain didn’t quite catch up with the aircraft their ha (the perils of not being all that familiar with the type I suppose). I definitely could have flown that last segment of the arrival a little bit better / more efficiently, but I guess it’s all part of the learning process ; )

    The 600 is perfect for someone like me that’s just getting into operations of advanced aircraft that’s not too difficult but one that you will definitely learn quickly, and the sounds just spot on. Everything about this aircraft is perfect in a way to where you feel like your on the actual plane itself. It’s a great plane for starters

    I really like the nostalgic look of the non-winglets. Wish this would be an option for every add on. Great video!

      Me too Sunny, the absence of winglets is one of the reasons I wanted to get the 600. I think it would be nice if the rest of the NG range had the option; it may not be realistic perhaps, but at least then people can choose for themselves and the aircraft will look more fitting with retro liveries etc.

      me to I wanted to have at least one commercial jet without winglets.
      Plus the smaller airframe physics work better in MSFS
      Plus it was only $35 🙂

    Your use of eye-tracking is just great. It takes the immersion to new heights. My impression is that other creators have not managed to acheive this yet.

      Thanks very much CoD! It’s certainly one of the tools I use to try and increase immersion; I’m really glad you think it works well for the most part.
      TrackIR can be pretty tricky to get setup smoothly, but after many years of tweaking and practice using it, I think I have things dialled in pretty well haha.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I've got into TIR, but have nowhere near the smoothness that you do. Every move of the head is excaerbated in the cockpit, and one of the worst issues is that cockpit movement keeps going slightly after head movement stops. Can you share any speed/smoothness settings and particularly yaw/pitch settings. I have tried smooth and dead-zone templates, but when I set pitch e.g., I can't look down to console or up too far to O/H panel.....fairly annoying.....so end up shifting the curve up which increases speed or instability. Would greatly apprec anything you can share.

      I actually have my TrackIR profile posted over on Flightsim.to. If you head over there and search for “Into the Blue TrackIR profile” etc, you should be able to find it no problem. I think I’ve managed to tweak things to a point that create a happy balance with TrackIR : )

    I wasn't going to get this. But PMDG have played a blinder here with the price. £28 is a steal, and of course I picked it up. I think it's different enough in performance to warrant a place in the hangar alongside the -7.

      PMDG worked out not many people would buy it and altered the price to maybe increase sales and maximise their profits on it. The 800 will be a different matter.

      Haha, indeed Michael - I’m sure PMDG have tempted many people who wouldn’t have picked up the 600 otherwise. I think best of all, now there is a very accessible “study level” option in the sim, which pretty much everyone should be able to enjoy (and that can’t be a bad thing for the hobby). Hopefully the move pays off for PMDG and then maybe we’ll see cheaper offerings in the future.

      I suspect so J McC, but I think the end result is still a win-win. The 600 offers up a “study level” experience to those who perhaps couldn’t afford it otherwise; 1) that has to be a good thing for the hobby and 2) if the move works beyond expectations for PMDG, perhaps it will have a knock-on effect to their pricing in the future.
      That’s just my “two pennies worth” though haha. All the best : )

      I get that for sure Stephmic. I felt the same with the SSW F-104, when that came out at considerably less cost than the TF-104.
      There’s no doubt that PMDG’s new pricing structure suits some and not others. Looking at the 600 in isolation, it’s an excellent deal. Had people known what the price was going to be ahead of time though, I’m sure many would have held fire on the 700.

      PMDG is right about MFS not being realistic, actually is PMGD doing MFS more realistic with their aircraft's physics and internal systems. Also the sounds, damn i always loved PMDG sounds, i use P3D V5 because that's what i prefer but i have no clues that PMDG will upgrade the MFS behiavor by just creating aircraft (with better physics than MFS default aircraft) for it.

      Because of the fact that graphics are not the maximum in simulation, real dudes would know that the physics and an acceptable scenary behiavour is more than enough to enjoy flight simulation, anyways MFS will need more years to pair its physics with X-Plane ones, but is sad that nowadays community are just fanboying every game with high resolution textures and shadows, if 3D trees with excessive shadows weren't a reality on MFS2020 then people would hate it.

      @@mileshenessey The problem is once you have turned the graphics up to the max on MSFS to see what that looks like ,resetting them to your normal settings makes you yearn for more. It’s a case of what you never have you never miss.

    This 737-600 by PMDG in the Boeing Demonstrator Livery has become my favourite goto jet for MSFS. I love this variant as it also seems to have different MCP buttons to the other two -600s. A gorgeous small jet, thank you PMDG. (also own the -700 PMDG release but it now gets less use!)

      I think I might well have to agree with you; the 600 is cracking fun and probably my favourite of the bunch thus far (I really like the lack of winglets, makes the NG look more retro). The MCP can actually be swapped out via the options menu, so you can have either the Collins or the Honeywell unit, on any variant of the NG : )

    I've flown several times in the real -600, so it's a no-brainer that I'm picking it over the -800.

    As always Captain, a great toe dip. And just like the PMDG systems, your videos are also second to none.
    There are still people out there complaining about the price for this. I encourage them to quit flight simulators all together 😁 They basically want all add-ons to be less than a tenner. At £28 there is literally no excuse for people not to have one in the hanger.

      Haha, there’s always an excuse of course! : P It doesn’t matter the addon or the pricing, I can be sure I’ll always have a few comments telling me “it’s overpriced garbage” (I would genuinely love to know what constitutes “study level” to some people hehe).
      It’s rare that I’ll pick on a product for its price, but I can understand on occasion when / why someone might think an addon is unreasonably expensive. Here though I can’t see any argument for that. Sure PMDG’s new pricing model may not represent the best value for everyone (namely those who want to buy the whole fleet), but conversely now just about everyone can afford to have a “study level” experience in the sim and that can only be a good thing for simmers and the hobby in general! As you say, if people can’t tolerate $35. I really wonder where the line ought to be drawn haha?!
      Aaanyway, if people can’t get on with a quality addon for $35, that is of course their choice entirely (genuinely - to each their own!). I get the impression PMDG will be doing just fine after this round of sales either way haha.

    love the look of the 600, will be great for someone like me who wants to get into complex flight simming but not sacrifice their wallet. Hopefully it'll come to the in sim market place soon as I prefer to buy products from there.

      I am with you on that one but it took -700 more than two months to finally be announced going to Marketplace, so I decided it's better to have it already. But yeah, the initial purchase from their page, plus downloading installer from mail, plus some activation and verification codes, PMDG software that need to be open and the idea, that I'm the one who has to be on a watch out for updates makes it much more inconvenient as compared to Marketplace.

      You don't actually need to spent money for serious flight simulation, for example most of great aircraft for X-Plane 11 like Zibo 737 are free and with tons of free and good plugins, even i that i still play FS2004 i can enjoy it as a complex simmer, you only need to be aware of the real topics of aviation rather than just watching tutorials of how to land an ILS CAT I and then you will be fine.

    I REALLY enjoyed this video! I fly the Boeing 737-8 in FSX / Orbx / AS-2016 / AS-Cloud Art, not a real-world pilot. I like the ability to fly into airports / fields that are not accessible to heavies or mid-sized airliners. I am a 'systems nerd' also and the features demonstrated in this video has won my decision to purchase for MSFS-2020. "Spot on"!

      I think at this point, we can well and truly say that whilst MSFS still has some way to go in terms of flight modelling, it is right up there with the competition in terms of systems fidelity / modelling etc. One of MSFS strengths, is that it is a pretty comprehensive sim “out of the box”. So even with just the base version of the sim and the PMDG 737-600, that already offers one a pretty cracking simming experience.

      I believe British Airways paid the British government the princely sum of £1 for some of their Concorde’s, so by comparison $35 for a 737 would be a complete ripoff : P

    I really dont spend near enough time in the 737 lineup. Nearly always in an airbus, but the pmdg lineup is awesome. I prefer the 800 or 900er.

    Thanks for the video iTB. Got it on Friday, it's absolutely great. I guess maybe not so much of you have the -700 of course. But it's really a peach for £30... PS if you're having problems installing Navigraph data for the 600, and you don't already have the 700, they told me they are working on it.

    You set Transponder to XPDR before pushback then TA/RA on runway entry.
    LNAV and VNAV should be on before pushback to minimize workflow after take off.

      The TCAS thing has been mentioned a couple of times. That really just comes down to SOP; up until very recently, SOP's in my company had the TCAS set before the push. That was actually changed not too long ago though (presumably to bring us in-line with most other carriers), so something to get used to both on the line and in the sim haha.
      LNAV and VNAV was a bit of a misunderstanding on my part. I had it in my head that those modes shouldn't be engaged until above a certain alt, but it seems those altitudes are where the mode actually engages (if armed) - of course they can be armed ahead of time. As I think you will have seen from my 737-800 video, I learnt my lesson there haha ; )

So many other TH-camrs can't be bothered to communicate with their subscribers, That will be their loss in the end, Ref the 600 it's the only NG i am interested in, It looks great IMO and performs so well! 👍

      Unfortunately, as with many MSFS addons, there is no working weather radar on the PMDG 737. Most “study level” jets don’t make use of the default weather radar implementation, as it’s pretty basic (I still would have thought that it’s better than nothing); Asobo were supposed to make improvements to the default radar API but, I guess we’re waiting on MSFS 2024 now. . .

    whenever i see the 600 i just imagine someone building a not to scale replica 737. Always funny to see it taxi past a private jet and see how not-so-big it is compared to them xD

      I love the aesthetic of the 737-500, but the wings of the 600 look rather out of proportion vs the body of the aircraft. It's certainly a stubby little jet (not sure I've ever seen one in the real world actually), but I quite like it as a result haha.

    Flew late afternoon into early evening from LOWI to EGVN via a few waypoints across Europe (3.25 hour flight in total), most of it in VR in the 700 and LNAV was absolutely flawless. But as you say, in my humble view it’s always been good. And there’s something very naughty about ‘flying’ across Europe whilst quaffing three Staropramens… :)
    I won’t be getting the 600 only because I just won’t fly it. I love the 700 and use it (and the 146) for 90% of my sim activity. So the 600 will sit in the community folder and never get loaded. Will be getting the 800 though, and the later 747.

      Sounds lovely Mark! I enjoy simming, VR and the occasional beer, but I’ve yet to combine the 3 - sounds like a winning combination haha!
      Fun fact; the recording of this video was actually delayed by a couple of hours, as I initially sat down to do it after a particularly “leisurely” lunch haha (the flying was ok, but the commentary left a little to be desired ha.
      That’s fair enough of course. The 600 won’t be to everyone’s tastes / needs, but for those looking for their first “study level” jet, it’s a cracking option! I’m glad you’re enjoying the 700 though - I do hope the authorities weren’t waiting for you when you pulled onto the gate XD

      Haha, well you’re probably better off with Mark’s opinions, as I’ve only tried a couple of headsets myself. I currently own the Samsung Odyssey and the HP Reverb G2. The Samsung is my trusty go-to headset, but the display is pretty low-res by modern standards and the upholstery is slowly removing itself from the headset. The HP Reverb display is excellent, but I can’t really make use of the headset, as it doesn’t fit very well with my IPD (at least I think that is I the issue). I am currently on the hunt for a new headset myself actually.

      MILVIZ have in fact announced that they’re working on a 737-200! Music to my ears, as I’ve always preferred the classics and the 200 (and being MILVIZ, it should be pretty great).

    Well i watched the video again finaly bought this jet yesterday. Even though i really am more of a GA flyer. Initial load was one of the longest ever but as my first PMDG product this was absolutely worth it. While i still love the JF 146, this thing blows the 146 just right out of the water in probably every cattegory except user friendlyness. I miss the ability to just import a OFP and setup the plane with one click.
    Sure is a lot more involved to start and set up, much like the FBW airbus with the full FMS and a lot of new switches and switch positions to learn.
    But the sounds, specially the engine sounds are just NSFW category. Just sounds exactly like when i am plying the plane as a passenger (-800 series mostly).
    And the V and L Nav is the smoothest of any plane i have used so far.
    I decided that as a first flight the Mach Loop would give me a good feel of the plane. And man does she fly absolutely fabulous. Such a feel of weight and inertia and yet effortless thanks to those powerfull engines.
    Really looking forward to dig into this plane and find out the best way to setup/import a flightplan and go a proper flight.

      PMDG have gotten a lot of flak recently for some of their business decisions, deserved or not, there is no doubt they know what they're doing, when it comes to creating complex and entertaining addons! The 737 is a gem and an absolute steal for $35. The 600 in particular has a bit of a "146 vibe" to it and can be great fun to use and abuse as a result (on the Mach Loop being a case in point haha).
      I hope you're getting to grips with it now. It's aways good funning digging into a new addon and finding out what is what! Happy flying : )

      Tbh with what they deliver, i'll cut them some slack. Think of it this way, the clothes we often wear, made in China etc, we are just not as close to the one producing tyhe goods to notice bad stuff. (Bad analogy i know)
      It sure is a steal. Only done 3 proper flights with it so far. Most days i end up jumping in the 337, Arrow or Islander and continue my world tour instead or fly with a friend who is very new to flight sim.
      Took about 1,5 flight to get to grips with most systems. Though i have not used the hold or missed aproach features yet.
      Videos like yours help me get the flow down before i even get a module which helps tremendously in how quick i learn a plane.
      I did DL some fanatstic retro liveries from KLM; Lufthansa and Pan-Am that looke rather sexy on the plane so will have to take a few flights with it the next few days :D

      The sounds are the same either way cuz I looked up the official sounds and they said they have the official recordings from the 737-600 which makes sense cuz all the 737s use the same engines there’s no differences.

    You’ll actually get better climb performance out of the 700. Even though it’s slightly bigger than the 600, it has the wing from the 800.

      Is that so Cohorts? Is that better climb performance in terms of achievable FL, or also in terms of climb rate? I'm quite surprised if the excess thrust doesn't get the 600 up to a given altitude more quickly (and 737NG Drivers video on the aircraft rather alluded to that), but I'm not all that informed when it comes to matters of the 737, so I'm certainly not suggesting you're incorrect haha.

    Thanks again for yet another very nice video. Have to say i was quite taken aback by the pricing, but a very nice surprise. Going to be in the hangar once my current DCS urge gets sated. I am also in the short n stubby camp haha. Goes for the 146 as well, really enjoy the -100 there the most, beside the -300 at MTOW is a real dog even if that has it's own fun.

    Thanks for all your great videos. I am intrigued to know how you get the wing view in the opening segment. I can do it with some GA aircraft but not PMDG. The camera seemed abreast of the wing but viewed from a cockpit window. The wing view has always been my favourite view for watching recorded flights. cheers, Michael

      For the PMDG 737, you need to access the wing views via the camera menu (located on the toolbar at the top of the screen). Switch to the external camera and you should have the choice between “Drone” and “Fixed”. If you select “Fixed”, there will be a number of pre-set views available, including wing views.

    Excellent little aircraft, might pick up when I can gather the funds! It'd be great to see PMDG have a go with the MAX at some point as I'm sure they'd do it great job at it (certainly better than the Bredok3D version in any case).
    I'm most excited for the 777 though as we sorely need a study level iteration in the sim!

    The reference to config tests comes from Chris Brady’s excellent book on the 737. It came about after the Hellenic air disaster so config’s were added both before T/O and in flight. I guess after pushback and brakes released advancing the power levers momentarily to T/O thrust would let you know if you are configured for T/O. There is a vid on you tube of a B777 commencing take off then rejected because of a config discrepancy.

      Thanks for the info Gerard! Yes, makes sense. The Airbus has an actual pushbutton to test the takeoff config, but I guess it's just a function of using the thrust levers on the 737 then.
      I'm really surprised that it's not covered in the checklist but then again, I suppose the checklist covers all of the items that the config test would otherwise catch.

    I don't know if you are aware but you can actually arm LNAV on the ground during line up. In the sim once, I took off and had a dual FMC failure and when I went to use operator SOP's which is normally at 400ft call "LNAV" green and engaged, I had hdg sel on the FMA and was confused for a second which felt like a long time until I glanced at the MCP and then seen the FMC's black screens... not fun... lol. Moral of the story is it pays to have a roll mode armed to call because I probably wouldn't have noticed the failure reversion otherwise.

I don't know why, but I had it in my head that the modes shouldn't be engaged until airborne (I've generally only flown the classic and the 200 in sims though, so perhaps it stems from that). Either way, I put your advice to good use and incorporated the procedure into my next 737 vid ; )
      Hopefully I wont have any failures to contend with haha, but I always like to simulate things accurately where I can.

    Hi, thanks for the review. You are correct in that this is good value if you just want the 600 version, and you have not already bought the 700. However, the cost increases a lot if you want more than one variant. I am not a fan of this pricing model. I prefer the base pack and addon modules method which provides a core simulation and extra addon versions at a more modest cost. Anyway, I will not be getting this as I am very happy with the 700.

      For sure Peter; the new pricing model benefits some and not others, depending on what it is they’re actually looking for. I think at least *part* of the reason that PMDG have gone with their new pricing model, is that the in-sim Marketplace does not support their old marketing strategy (though I’m certainly not saying that would be the only reason). I can see advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but looking at the 600 in isolation, I think it’s great that we have an eminently affordable “study level” option in the sim (I guess that can only be a good thing for the hobby) and as an added bonus, if sales of the 600 turn out to be spectacular, maaaybe it will persuade PMDG to bring down their costs a little more overall. We shall see. . .

      Hehe, indeed David; I think many people are holding out for the 800 just like yourself and I’m sure PMDG priced the 600 to try and lure people in.
      I really like the little baby Boeing, but of course if you can hold out just a little bit longer, you can save yourself a decent chunk of change (if you aren’t too bothered about the 600). Either way though it’s a quality product - worth the money.

    Never engage the second AP for approach on the 737 unless you're planning on doing an autoland. I know it's the procedure on the A320, but the 737 is an old machine with its workarounds.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations More questions just ask. I flew the 737 for 3,5 years and I've recently moved to the Airbus.
      The reason for not arming the second AP on the 737 is that at around 350 ft RA the trim wheel spins around 13 times nose up for the flare during autoland. This is why you had an out of trim aircraft when you disconnected the AP.

      I was aiming to get the thrust levers into the idle-reverse position (I thought I had by the looks of things?) and just used the keybinding that I normally would to achieve that. Perhaps the PMDG doesn't use the default keybinding there and I made an error. . .

      Fair enough Exmerlox, although from what I’ve heard (from a few other Turkish viewers), that’s primarily because MSFS is way cheaper in Turkey, than most other countries (I realise there are reasons for that). The PMDG 737-600 might be relatively expensive, but I’m afraid it’s about the cheapest full-fidelity jetliner one is likely to come across. The FBW A320 is still a very solid offering though and the Airbus isn’t that bad of an aircraft overall ; )

    The price is almost where it should be for a MFS (PC and Xbox) market. Imho, hoping to sell at high price a lot of units is more difficult to achieve than selling a lot at low price point. I think a lot more people would buy these modules even if they would play them for as many hours as some "passionate" would do or as in depth for that matter. But a sale is a sale and if all counts to a bigger bottom line...
    I would be very interested if PMDG would come out with a live map like Flybywire has to have an apples to apples comparison.

      Absolutely. I think the devs are still finding their footing in MSFS currently, but it’s pretty clear we are seeing a downward trend in the “study level” addons. I suspect (as Superdelphinus points out) that the 600 is a little bit of an experiment for PMDG; hopefully it pays off big time, as it’s a win-win in theory!

I figured the logo looked a little bit fresher / more modern and is perhaps more appropriate for the channel, given that I fly all sorts of addons (not just warbirds).
      I'm afraid I didn't check regarding the FPV option. I'm not at my main PC right now, so I'm not able to take a look, but I would be somewhat surprised if PMDG didn't model such an option. Sorry I can't be more helpful on that one.

      I’m not saying that PMDG priced the 600 altruistically; they most likely knew the 600 wouldn’t sell all that well (at “full” price) and that they were facing stiff competition on the pricing from the likes of Fenix etc. The fact remains though, that £30 is a great price when looking at the product in isolation. Many people can’t justify the costs of your average “study level” jet - the 600 gives those people an affordable (which can’t be a bad thing for the hobby in general).
      My point was not to be “pro PMDG” per se (and yes, it’s rather galling if one has paid $70 for the 700, to then be told that you could have picked up essentially the same product at half the price), but I am pro the hobby becoming more affordable / accessible and the 737-600 certainly goes some way towards making that the case.
      I know not everyone will agree with me on the above, but that’s my two pennies worth at any rate.

    One little glitch, during spool up the -7B behaves differently, the simulation is much too quick.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Yes many improvements so well done ! A quick note: For a flap 5 Takeoff, you can select Flap 1 when above V2+15 (white bug) and Flaps Up when above the Flap1 bug. In my airline we also must be accelerating (green trend arrow) as well. Other TO Flap settings use the same principle. So for a Flap10/15 takeoff select Flap 5 above V2 +15, Flap 1 above Flap 5, Flap Up above Flap 1 bug.

      Hehe, I was just saying to someone else Jenny, that I’d imagine even the most committed of GA flyers *might* be tempted by the 600. I can absolutely understand why some people just don’t enjoy commercial jets in the sim, but at this sort of price point, the 600 is a great way of allowing one to “dip their toes in” (and it’s also the variant that is most bush plane-esque haha).

    When I saw the red engines I assumed you were flying the SAS livery 😭 Still very much enjoyed the video despite that massive disappointment at the start 😉 May actually buy this instead of the 800 for this price. I want a 737, but don’t think it will be my main aircraft after the first couple of weeks. $35 makes too much sense. I can buy another addon for the price difference!

      I had my first flight in this today. Really impressive and fun addon! I was surprised at how easy it was to get everything set up using the interactive checklist and some experience with the FMS in the Salty 747. Using the CDU for ground equipment, boarding and loading works well enough, but an EFB will be welcome.

The 737 actually feels a bit easier to fly with the advanced vnav and autothrottle. I have yet to have a really perfect landing after 5 flights though 😛

      That's a good question haha. You certainly didn't miss anything, it was something I neglected to do, although interestingly it wasn't covered in any of the checklists I was using (including a real-world one). If memory serves me correctly, does one simply (briefly) jam the throttles forward for the config test? I guess the same thing is achieved on the runway, coming up to takeoff power, but a check before that point certainly seems prudent. I am by no means a 737 expert, so I'm always happy to learn more. How would you set about doing it? : )

      I'm probably not the most reliable person to ask Ronnie - being an Airbus guy haha, but from what I do know, I would say very much so! The differences between the entire NG family appear to be very minor and so what applies on one variant, almost always seems to apply to to the others (in the order of 95% of the time).
      If you've found some decent 700 tutorials, they can definitely be used to help you fly the 600 : )

    I'm hopeful that more of the really detailed and dedicated teams making study level aircraft start to follow a cheaper pricing model regularly. I think its finally viable, due to the record number of new simmers and the fact that MSFS is open not just to PC gamers but also Xbox. The larger the potential market gets, the easier is to recoup the initial investment that goes into truly excellent aircraft that teams like PMDG design.

      The problem with mods like this, and why payware mods (including for American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator) exist, is because they have to be updated constantly, no? The game devs are constantly changing variables or something in the way the models are called, or the way certain elements exist in the plane. Like if a new way to render lights were added and you don't edit the code files for your model, then upon update, anyone with your mod will just crash.
      At least, I'm assuming it's the same with MSFS. All these sim type games have constant updates to the engine. It's not even that the mesh model is hard to make, it is, but it's like, cool, take 2 months making it... now it's you the consumer that has to pay per updates. I could be wrong though. That's the way it worked on American Truck Simulator: a payware model for mods because of a need to update the mod's code whenever they release an engine update to the game (and your mod doesn't include the new variables they added).

      Yes, it does seem to be the case that we are now paying considerably less for some of our high-level addons in the sim. MSFS has a number of "study-level" addons around the $50 mark and I think it would now be hard for addon developers to stray too far away from that, since expectations have perhaps been set. I'm not expecting that the 737-800 will be priced quite this low, but I'd imagine PMDG would struggle to sell it at their older prices, with the 600 being such a great option on the table.
      As you say, I think the number of simmers on the platform means it's finally possible to sell large numbers of units at a lower cost. Hopefully a win-win for both consumers and developers alike!

      It sounds like ATS is a little bit different from MSFS. The sim is indeed being constantly updated, but by and large developers update and fix their products accordingly and for free (only the really bad devs seemingly make little effort to do so). I own rather a large number of addons and having been using MSFS since day 1 - so far I think all of my addons are still working (although one or two do have minor bugs).
      ATS sounds like it could / would be very frustrating in that regard; I'm surprised there isn't more support from the payware mod creators. . .

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I can tell you, as someone working on a truck mod for ATS, that the only reason pay-for addons exist is just to charge you money for them. It can take someone like me a week to make it, but if we can milk it, why not?
      There's also a lot of stuff to read when making addons, like which gauge uses which keyframes, naming conventions for objects, physical accuracy. With MSFS, the game is more of a sim than the truck simulator games on. The truck simulator games have an audience that doesn't want to "study anything" in the truck, and so it's more important that a developer charges you a certain amount "if you can change the exhaust stack into 20 other shapes" (an extruded cylinder, LMAO).
      I paid for some addons in these truck games, and there definitely still is payware in MSFS, but it's like, it's up to the consumer. If devs just want to make money for our work, then that's what we'll do, because clearly we're starving, LMAO. Nonetheless, there are study level addons, as you said, in MSFS that work perfectly fine. MSFS is more about "teaching you something" and games like truck simulators are more about milking you for your money for aesthetics, for sure.
      A lot of the payware addons in MSFS are more like "Look at this cool plane that isn't really useful to study and doesn't need to be open source, you will pay for it because it's cool!". That's how truck sim is. All the study level stuff in MSFS is more open source as you said.

      I'm using a head-tracking device called "TrackIR" for the camera movements. It's great, although a little pricey. There are cheaper / freeware alternatives available though, should you wish to give it a go for yourself : )

      I believe PMDG claim that each variant does use different engine sounds etc. I’ve no idea whether that’s the case or not though and not being all that familiar with the 737, I’m not personally sure how much variation one would hear between the different variants. Certainly, when charging “full price” for each aircraft, different soundsets etc should be included. Haven’t tried the 800 myself yet, but looking forward to doing so when I get the chance.

    I have this huge problem with the PMDG 737-600, where it keeps trying to pitch up whenever I put the yoke in its natural position. Even if I pitch the nose using the trim down, it still won't work. And, all my settings are set to true to life. Any fix?

    I'm a bit late to the party, but wanted to say wonderful job on this video. Its certainly the best value for all that you get with this aircraft. I did have a question: I noticed that after landing roll out and cleaning up a/c, you move the spoiler lever from full down to the up position. This shouldn't be required. once the spoiler are in the armed pos, they will fully deploy automatically upon touchdown. Also, did you use the apprch button on final to capture the glide? I didn't notice. Keep up the great content.

      If I understand your question correctly: I didn't additionally deploy the spoilers manually on touchdown. I armed them, which as you say, is sufficient for them to deploy upon landing, but in the 737 (if I'm not wrong) spoiler deployment also mechanically moves the lever to the "deployed" position. So for the clean-up, I was just moving the lever back to the stowed detent. Does that make sense? As to your second point, I did indeed use the APPR button to capture the glide yes.

      I'm perhaps not the best person to ask, since I'm not all that clued-up on Boeing aircraft, but I believe the short answer would be "not many" haha. The two products are essentially identical and it really is just the minor airframe differences (and their associated performance effects) that differentiate the two aircraft. So far as I am aware, everything you get with the 700, you also get with the 600 (with the exception of the winglets).
      If you aren't too fussed about which variant you want and you don't have any issues with the "stubby" aesthetic of the 600, then picking up the cheaper offering really is the way to go!

      This addon is available for Microsoft Flight Simulator yes and it can be purchased directly from the PMDG website (it is currently only available for the PC version of the sim). Just a small word of caution though, the PMDG 737 does have quite a steep learning curve if you're new to simming.

    While I appreciate the price point and that it's a "study level" aircraft, let's face that it's merely a variation of the -700, not a completely new product, and this inexpensive only because PMDG knows demand is going to be extremely low for this model. The majority is waiting for the -800 and that won't be this cheap. This variation is barely in use anymore, so on one hand it's wonderful, on the other hand it's this cheap for a very good reason. The -800 will be "The" product, really.

      I very much agree with all of your points there haha; but looking at the 600 in isolation, I think it's a great product and whilst many people may have previously been unable to afford a "study level" addon for the sim, now most will be able to (and that has to be a good thing for the hobby in general!).
      I don't think PMDG priced the 600 altruistically, but whatever their reasoning, the addon will be a great option for those who didn't purchase the 700 / are indifferent to which variant of the 737 they pick up : )

    If you fly with low visibility and cloud *all the time* does the new MSFS version have any really big superiority over the steam fsx PMDG 737? The database is more up to date and has new things like RNP which makes my old paper material even less useful!
    I do not want to see the ‘screamingly’ wrong new clouds and reflective waters.
    Steam fsx PMDG’s 737 has a nice programable HUD, is it in development for the new MSFS version?

      The short answer would be “no”. It sounds like you have FSX dialled in pretty well for what you’re after and in some respects FSX handles clouds and visibility much better than MSFS. The MSFS flight model does have a number of advantages over FSX these days, but I don’t think that’s of a particularly huge benefit when looking at a commercial jet.
      I could be wrong, but I believe the HUD is already implemented in the MSFS version of the 737, I just don’t like to use it. We are still waiting on an EFB though. . .

      Yes, each variant of the 737 comes with different livery options, broadly based on the real-world airlines using them (though there are a number of fictional liveries included also). Do bear in mind though, that a lot of freeware liveries also exist for the product, over on websites like Flightsim.to, so it’s worth checking out what options exist there as well.

    Before I purchase this and throw myself into the world of jets, which is not my world but I am excited to try something different, it looks like you are taking at least a 10fps hit in this video, compared to your normally smooth panning. Does this kill your frames and is the Fenix Airbus better or worse on the frames? Thank you as always..

      Hi MM,
      I can’t remember the FPS / impact off the top of my head, but I did make mention of it during the conclusion (as I generally try to do in my videos). I didn’t really notice any choppiness during the flight personally, but of course one does take some sort of a hit with such a jet. Undoubtedly though, the PMDG has the Fenix beat when it comes to FPS.
      Watch the last 10 mins of the video and hopefully that will have the info you’re looking for : )

      Did I PilotFalcon? I don't think so (I mean, I didn't turn *all* the lights on, but I had the appropriate ones on at the appropriate time, so far as I am aware). I'm not 100% familiar with the Boeing, but I had the strobes, beacon and NAV lights on, the landing and taxi lights were on where applicable. What was it that you reckon I missed? : )

      43:03 all lights are not on … not a big deal dude…. ;) flap schedule should be : gear down and flaps 15 (no wait) / flaps 25 / flaps 30.

    I noticed your 737-600 has Windows at the top of the cockpit. Are those a variant of the 600? I haven't seen those windows on any other 600 demo or screenshot for MSFS. Cheers!

      Hi Myles,
      The eyebrow windows are an option that can be selected ON / OFF from the CDU (like the rest of the aircraft options). They aren't specific to the 600, the 700 has the option as well. I don't think eyebrow windows are common these days, if indeed they are still a valid option on the 737, but I always liked the classic 737's and the eyebrow windows fit in with a lot of the retro liveries I like to use.

      Best guess is the same as the 700 so 70 bucks as the 800 is most peoples favorite and PMDG would make all the people that bought the 700 mad otherwise.

      I certainly don’t have any factual answers for you there I’m afraid, but I would guess that Isamu is in about the right ballpark. PMDG knows that the 800 is the variant most people want, so I’d be surprised if they sell it any cheaper than the 700 - more likely they’ll sell it for slightly more if anything. Again though, that’s just a complete guess on my part (perhaps PMDG have had such massive sales from the 600, that they’ll stick with the new pricing structure. . .).

    Who wouldn't want to snap this up if they didn't have the 700? Do you think there's any chance they'll go back in time and maybe release a -100 or -200? I guess they're more likely to work on bringing over the other 7-series planes than that.

      PMDG have never really made any other 737s. Milviz will probably bring their 200 over at some point though

      Who wouldn’t? Those that want the 800 and don’t want to spend money on a variant they probably won’t fly much if at all when that comes out. And no, they are unlikely to do any older Boeings as they haven’t made them before unlike these which they already had the work done to port over to this sim. That being said there is news that they may do the newer Max models but that will be after they have brought all the other Boeings over, 777, 747, so years away if they do.

      Haha, well quite John; I think even the most committed of GA flyers might be tempted at this sort of price. The 600 is an excellent offering in its own right.
      As far as the 100/200 goes, alas I don’t think we’ll see a PMDG effort. MILVIZ have announced that they will be brining their 737-200 to MSFS though, so that’s exciting! I also heard a (completely unverified haha) rumour, that Fenix’s next project might be a classic 737. Who knows whether that’s true, but I would love to see it happen!
      Time will tell on all fronts I suppose. Cheers! : )

      Ah, sorry to hear that OEG. The 600 is indeed a bit of a steal, but the 700 is still a very good product (and arguably is also a bit better proportioned, than the stubby little 600 haha).

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations yes i agree. The 700 is a beutiful plane, and very often used up in northern norway before the 800 and max took over. And to give pmdg twice the price isnt so wrong either, because they have worked their asses off to make such a great product. Very well Worth it!!

      Haha, it maaaay have been asked once or twice Brave Heart : P
      In my videos, I use real-world ATC recordings, which I then edit in. Typically I use recordings from LiveATC.net, but here I used some UK ATC recordings that I found over on Avsim. There is actually an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though; it creates the same effect and would most likely suit the average user a bit better (most people seem to rate the program quite highly).

      By payware "study level" standards, $35 is an absolute steal! I understand that it is "some addon in a game", but it's a very complex and well modelled addon, with arguably as much programming going into the 737, as some full games.
      FSX did indeed have many airliners available as standard, but comparing the default FSX 737 with this, would be like comparing a Formula 1 car with a soapbox car hehe - both have their place, but don't offer nearly the same level of experience.

      Essentially, because I was trying to fly the 737 like an Airbus haha. At the time of recording, I wasn’t aware that CMD A+B was only engaged ahead of an autoland (whereas on the Airbus, an aircraft I am much more familiar with, AP 1+2 are connected for an ILS regardless).

    I want to buy this jet but I play in VR and my system is only barely capable of running it. Does this 737-600 affect performance compared to say the Asobo A320Neo that comes as standard?

      Hi Andy,
      I don’t remember the specific numbers for the 600 I’m afraid, but I did cover FPS during my full review of the 737-700. That should hopefully give you a good idea as to the FPS impact of the aircraft (I compared the 737 vs the default C152 - so you should be able to interpolate from that). I was getting 60 FPS in the 737-700, vs about 78 FPS in the default C152. So, if your system is already having a tough time, you might find you struggle a little with the aircraft, but I’d imagine the 737 is broadly on a par with the default A320.

      It’s an older aircraft, and small, and looking online, they only made 69 of them anyway.

      As WhiteHawk quite rightly points out, the 600 was actually produced in only very small numbers and being an older airframe at this point, I believe many of them have been retired. So your findings on Flightradar sound very plausible for sure. I find it quite amusing, that PMDG has undoubtedly sold many times more units of the 600 than Boeing ever managed haha : P

      I'm not sure whether the NAV lights were working or not to be honest; it may well simply be that when replaying / recording the external shots, I had neglected to turn them on again haha (it's kind of hard to see from the angles that I've recorded in the video).

    So, how much will be the -800 variant? 99$? To milk these products the best as possible for PMDG?
    Not fan of the pricing but if you can get a study level aircraft from a fraction of the price, why not...

      I’m guessing $90-100. They’re trying to second guess the buying public,but that won’t work with me .I’m buying the 600 and will just forget it’s not an 800

      I’m not sure on pricing for the 800 I’m afraid Max, but I suspect you’re in the right ballpark (unless the 600 is such a massive success, that PMDG choose to go for a lower pricing structure going forward).
      I think you have the right idea though; the 600 is a cracking price - in isolation it’s a great product. The new pricing model certainly has its advantages and disadvantages, but for those who can live without the whole fleet, this is great buy.

    does the 737 600 have/ make use of the interactive checklist like the bae 146 does? enabling you to quickly set some of the switches via the co pilot
