I´ll never forget this amazing screen after years of small screens with large bezzles. This phone will ever have a special pleace in my smartphone history. And by the way Samsung gave the january 21 security patch. amazing.
I think since the s6 they still deliver security patches for about four years. But the s7 received a security patch in September 2020. So depending if there happens to be a major issue then you could see the s8 still receiving security patches for 4-5 years or any time between that. After the first two years I think they move their security patches quarterly. Starting with the Galaxy s10 line they are supposed to get three major OS updates. I don't care for major OS updates so as long as the phone is secure then fours years of support is pretty good to me. I had Note 4 until it died in 2019. Even then I think the display was amazing in 2019. Samsung does make one of the best displays on the market.

It's funny reviewers pushed so heavy that the fingerprint placement is almost a fatal issue. It took me about 2 hours to get used to it and never had an issue. With a case on it's especially easy to pinpoint.

I've had the S8+ since the day it was launched. works like magic to this day. not gonna replace it until it turns off and won't turn on (unless the new S22+ will be worth the upgrade in a major way)
I've been using a S8 plus since 2017 and it still runs perfect battery life is really good despite having this for about 4 years now this is still a beast
I've had my S8 since launch, I'm still pretty happy with it despite it not being on the latest OS and I, unlike so many, actually do love the placement of the fingerprint sensor.. When it's held in my hand my fingers naturally over it. As for the camera, well, I don't really take any photos. it's mostly only used as a chat phone for when I'm outside doing IRL. I can't complain, the battery does still last the better part of the day even though it's 4 years old. Screen still fine, not really seen any obvious burnin yet.
I bought my S8 when it came out. It was and is still an amazing phone. Unfortunatly i lost it recently, so I have to get new phone, but S8 was amazing and hold a special place in my heart.
I actually just upgraded from an S8 to an S21 one week ago. I have to say, the speed difference is very noticeable. Also, the battery is much better, lasting over 5 hours of screen on time (maybe even 6 if you push it), while my S8 maxed out at like 3.5 hours. It is much better overall. My S8 served me well though. I had it since October 2017 and it served me pretty well. As someone with an interest in software, it bummed me out that it didn't get Android 10 while my previous iPhone 6S still gets updated. I'm glad Samsung is promising 3 years of updates now. My S8 served me well though. It was decently fast, but did hang at times. I loved still having a headphone jack. I loved having a Pro mode on the camera to flex my night star shots that iPhones couldn't take. There was a lot I loved about my S8, but it was getting about time for an upgrade, and I'm happy I decided to get the S21. Despite the lack of a headphone jack, plastic back, and 1080p screen, it is a much better phone overall in pretty much every way apart from what I mentioned (but honestly the 1080p and plastic back I am fine with since I can't really tell the difference). It is way faster and not having to charge my battery before bed is nice, plus I'm interested to see what the 3 cameras can do, and I like the in screen fingerprint scanner. I would not recommend people to buy the S8 now, but it was a great phone for what it lasted me for. That's much of what made me stick with Samsung. I still have my S8, and it is quite a difference, but it is still an okay phone and was a great phone 4 years ago.
I still have my Galaxy S8 in 2021 I bought my phone the same month within the same week of hitting the market. It was the 1st time I ever researched, including all the phones on the market. for me and my needs it was the best Bang for my buck. That 1st week in April when the phone hit the market I made the purchase. It really stood the test of time for the whole 4 years I owned it. Only recently in the last month have I noticed the software where the reliability time start to break down. I think 4 years it came down to a $1.23 a day For me that's an unbelievable deal. I'd say if you're desperate yeah get the phone but set your money aside for something new. If you're like me the financial impact was better to buy the phone outright and do a prepaid plan. I intend to buy the Galaxy S21 outright and continue to do the prepaid system hope this helps this helps if you're reading this
It was my first samsung phone the s8 plus. I always regretted sticking with apple for ao long and missing out on the s6 and s7. Tbat being said, am a huge samsung fan now and just swapped 4 weeks ago froms the s10+ to the flip4. Am still rebuying the s8+ for my collection.
Got my S8+ new in 2017, runs great still. Over the years battery life has slowly diminished (and it weren't for that) I honestly doubt it be looking to upgrade. Images from camera with minimal Google-Photo/Photoshop image enhancements still produce stellar shots.
I remember when my friend said dont buy the iphone X , get the s8 😂😂 . Shame for samsung demaning near 1k for less than 2 years of app support . While the iphone 5s still getting security updates
iOS really is amazing with how much software support you get. I switched from S9+ to iPhone 11pro max & I'm so happy I did. It has kind of turned me into an apple fanboy lol
I usually upgrade phones every 5 years. Went from Nokia to S3, then to S8 but the S8 was such a great experience that I stuck with it past the 5th year mark. Earlier this year I dropped it and cracked the screen.. cosmetic damage but even then I still wanted to keep it. It wasn't until the screen wouldn't respond to touch around the area it cracked that i decided it was time to get it fixed. The repairs on the screen were ~200usd so i figured that i'd might as well upgrade as this was probably a sign that it has been long enough and time to move on. I'm going to keep the phone and get a s23. The S8 was truly a great phone.
For me personally, I am not too bothered about Samsung warning you about higher brightness levels. Not just because it drains battery but also because my eyes can get irritated by the high brightness. It may be just me though. I understand your point though.
My S8 still performs like a champ up to this day! A huge improvement over my crappy vivo 😌 still beautiful to look at even though it's a 2017 flagship 😁 only gripe on it is that damned fingerprint sensor beside the camera, it's an ergonomic disaster imo 😪 Watching this on my Snapdragon Galaxy S8
Honestly, me too! My S8 is doing well, but the only thing is the battery life. Thankfully, I can fast charge, so the scenario won't be a problem yet, unless it dies quicker.
I have a galaxy s4 besides galaxy s20 fe and it's still working and I haven't even change its battery and I have been using it for more than 6 years its still works perfectly 🥰
i only use the iris scanner so i dont have to worry bout the fingerprint scanner on my s8+, battery can last 3/4 of a day and there is no rason to upgrade to a new phone unless you are constantly watching your phone and want a long lasting battery, it is still powerful enough for every task
I owned this phone between 2017-2019 and i loved it. Coming from an iPhone 6 the display on the S8 blew me away with its bright amoled panel. The curved screem made it look so futuristic and thats why i went for S10 plus afterwards as samsung gave me such a great experience. Iphone 6 was amazing aswell with its kinda big screen at the time and the iphone 6 design after iphone 5 felt like i had the future in my hands so yeah no hate towards apple. I've owned 4 galaxys and now im rocking s23 ultra and its just a even better more mature S8 in my eyes with its more natural colours on screen because i use natural mode and small curve. S8 design was out of this world and S10 plus was more of that but with even crazier lightweight thin design. S8 fast charging was super nice too. S8 started all the great features. Amoled screen, fast charging
Watched this video on my S8+ and my phone is still working fine. The software update is a bummer especially when you see the newly released low end A series getting the latest Android 10!
now most smart phones have thin bezels and hole punch cameras except for the iPhone that still has a notch but back then most phones had thick bezels on both the top and bottom but thin bezels on the sides
Am I the only one who never had a problem with the S8's fingerprint scanner placement? I got so used to it that when I switched to iPhone, I kept putting my finger on the back pane out of force of habit, and I still almost like it better than Face ID sometimes
I always wondered what would happen if Samsung adopted their own Tizen os and gave their phones 4 years of support. That would be pretty cool considering they make their own chips and their main competitor is apple
@@91Tech Hi I am currently having screen issues with my Samsung S7. I am having screen discoloration and was told by a tech that it will eventually turn black and that all phones usually does that eventually. Is that true?
I bought one a few months ago. Software is outdated but not bad. Amazing screen. Hardware is still more than capable. Camera is decent, not bad but not stellar. It works for me and with battery replacement, capacity is back to 100. Will be holding on to this thing for awhile.
I have an S8+ with LineageOS installed, the performance is definetly better than my Galaxy S9+ and almost better than the S10+ with the Stock Samsung ROM, only thing that is bs with custom roms is the fact that you can only watch Streaming Services in SD Quality because it loses the Widevine L1 Certification
@@skriddle3 No, unfortunately not because if this happens the key on many phones will be deleted and an efuse is blown so theres no way you can get that functionality back
I actually think that most of these older Samsung phones, even the S7 to some extent, can be completely rejuvenated with a custom ROM. The hardware on the S8 and the aforementioned S7 is pretty similar, and they both have gorgeous displays and tons of features. They're all just being held back by their garbage no-good software support. I'd imagine this being a pretty sensible decision if you need good hardware at a cheap price.
I've been using my S8+ for 2 years now and never had an issue with accidental touches. Also also, Install GCam if you want to breathe new life to the camera's performance but hey, for me, it still take good shots even with the stock camera app.
I still use an S8+ and my wife uses an S8. We both agree that it still feels like a modern phone and never lets us down unless you let the internal memory fill up too much. Other then that it still works great as a daily driver.
I bought an S8 plus bleu when i turned 19, i turned 23 last November and i am still really happy with this phone. it isn't the fastest but the screen is amazing, also the battery life is like half what it used to be (6 hours of screen on time), but i'm planning to replace the battery for 15 euro's.
@@UnipornFrumm oh I'm sure you don't, that's not how I meant it. It's just that the last year was quite painful with the s8 from time to time. I hope they don't screw up s22 ultra since s21 is gorgeous
I just traded in my my note 8 for the s21 ultra. Tbh as amazing as the s21 is, the note 8 was still pretty great. Unfortunately i did begin to see it slow down a bit and some apps began to have issues so I decided to upgrade. Definitely an improvement but, honestly it's not a life changing upgrade.
Planned obsolescence at its finest unfortunately.. the apps keep getting updated and occasionally firmware updates by different manufacturers have purposely foiled their own devices near the end of/past support.. to really encourage replacement
Totally agreed. I also had issues with charging port but overall I really liked that phone. I didn't mind the outdated software. Having a headphone jack is still something I miss. (I used S8 for 4 years and upgraded to S20 recently.)
I changed battery 2 times in an official samsung store.Nothing changed .Its the latest android version that caused that in my opinion. And there is no newer one... i m just searching a solution to manualy upgrate it but i dont know how
I upgraded from my awesome S4 to the S8 in 2017 still working almost like it came out of the box. The only reason why I am upgrading is that it is obsolete if I could root I would and install an android 10 rom. If it's possible please let me know I have a dragon processor
I miss my s8, i broke it. It fell a lot of times, and the screen has several cracks . . one day im just watching a video then it just suddenly turned off. Never turned on again
Just upgraded to Galaxy S21 from S8. So glad to have found this video. In the hand, the S8 feels more premium and is impressive. My S8s battery was horrific at some point but randomly improved which allowed me to keep going a few more years. I had horrible burn in as well and the screen coating was essentially gone so every touch left a streak. I was shocked how unimpressed I was by the S21 compared to S8. So he's right to say that if you have a usable S8, an upgrade isn't entirely necessary. On S21, I'm not particularly impressed with the camera although it is of course better than the S8. It just isn't as smooth to use as on iphone. The battery for the first few days was really bad but got quite good after a bit. The screen colors looked odd to me for a while.. Kinda low contrast. Perhaps the burn in from the S8 affected my brain 😏 I'm used to the new screen now and it's fine. The speed, just as a new flagship should be, is shockingly great. Especially with the higher refresh rate. Fingerprint reader was not working well for a while. It seems to have improved with an update or I learned to get it right? And the biggest surprise was the improvement in speaker capability. Took forever to remove all the extra garbage that comes along with a Samsung phone and make it feel fresh. That was most upsetting of all. But now all is well. Happy about the speed, super fast charging, and having some of the perks of Android 11. I had no idea that automatic dark and light mode would be so appreciated!
This was the time when the exynos version of the s8 was onpar with its snapdragon variant. Still my main phone. Can pretty much handle multi tasking. Battery is the only prob. can still hold up against some new midrange phones imo.
Been using mine forever. The S8+. It finally dropped on the concrete the other day 🙄. I called around and it'll cost more to repair it than the phone is worth 😢
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have always been some of my favorite Androids, definitely sad to see them already 2 software versions behind. But still, the phones feel premium, and that display is as gorgeous as ever.

I´ll never forget this amazing screen after years of small screens with large bezzles. This phone will ever have a special pleace in my smartphone history. And by the way Samsung gave the january 21 security patch. amazing.
Gg
@@kelvs45 My s8+ started to get a little too laggy. I decided to just do a factory reset and it ran a lot better. If you don't want to go that route, then just get rid of all the apps you don't use anymore.

It's funny reviewers pushed so heavy that the fingerprint placement is almost a fatal issue. It took me about 2 hours to get used to it and never had an issue. With a case on it's especially easy to pinpoint.

Real talk, mine broke yesterday.. RIP
I had the same upgrade about six months ago.

I bought my phone the same month within the same week of hitting the market.
I think 4 years it came down to a $1.23 a day

I'd say if you're desperate yeah get the phone but set your money aside for something new. If you're like me the financial impact was better to buy the phone outright and do a prepaid plan.

So?
Hardware matters not software
@mark Stokley , Good choice . that 11 pro max , you can expect to have system ios updates at least till 2026 , if not longer
Im getting this phone next week. This will be my official 1st galaxy phone. I dont care how old it is, it still looks great to me
For me personally, I am not too bothered about Samsung warning you about higher brightness levels. Not just because it drains battery but also because my eyes can get irritated by the high brightness. It may be just me though. I understand your point though.
The old S8 looks better than the IPhone X
My S8 still performs like a champ up to this day! A huge improvement over my crappy vivo 😌 still beautiful to look at even though it's a 2017 flagship 😁 only gripe on it is that damned fingerprint sensor beside the camera, it's an ergonomic disaster imo 😪
Watching this on my Snapdragon Galaxy S8
I have an iPhone 7 and an s8 but my s8 is performing worse than my iPhone now and it annoys me
Honestly, me too!
I better use iris scanner than the fingerprint
i only use the iris scanner so i dont have to worry bout the fingerprint scanner on my s8+, battery can last 3/4 of a day and there is no rason to upgrade to a new phone unless you are constantly watching your phone and want a long lasting battery, it is still powerful enough for every task
Still using my S8 and love it!

I have an S8+ with LineageOS installed, the performance is definetly better than my Galaxy S9+ and almost better than the S10+ with the Stock Samsung ROM, only thing that is bs with custom roms is the fact that you can only watch Streaming Services in SD Quality because it loses the Widevine L1 Certification
it can be fixed I guess
