The 3D games were pretty amazing for 1979, I think I'd have been impressed by those but don't recall them. Of course, it was a massive thing when Star Wars arrived in the arcades a bit later on, but these ones from '79 were cool.

Thank you for this video and the others in this series. Really informative and interesting. I love looking waaaay back into gaming's history like this.

Another excellent video! One of the most interesting games to me is Nintendo's Radar Scope. It looks like fast and frantic fun and I really like the sound. I only knew the game as the game that failed miserably and was cannibalized and turned into Donkey Kong, now I think it deserves to be played in 2020 and onwards. I suck at space shooters though ;)

Totally agree. I think Radar Scope was great -- ahead of its time IMHO. While it might not have sold all that well, and so it gets routinely panned by the history books... I think its an unfair representation of the game itself. Actually quite good for its time.

I think your too young to understand or appreciate a lot of these games because I’ve heard the term boring a lot but that’s all we had back then and I guess you just had to be there because in 30-40 years your gonna have somebody say the same thing about today’s fighting games or FPS games because somebody 40 years from now wasn’t around when fighting or FPS games were at their peak and they just don’t understand or appreciate them because they weren’t there

I loved Galaxian... was the first game that captured my attention. I got quarters from the tooth fairy to go play it at the local Sears. Just because some of these games were "all we had back then" doesn't make them good even amongst their contemporaries.
So I was there, I grew up watching the arcade market unfold, evolve. Loved my Odyssey2, Atari 2600, C64, and so on. BUT... can you honestly review games over 40 years old without some level of modern-day filters? Probably not. I'm just being honest about what games I still think are worth playing even today, and which ones are indeed rather "boring."

@@vghchannel maybe it’s just me because quite honestly those games from the 70s and early 80s is what I gravitate towards , imagine having a holodeck from Star Trek and comparing it to an Xbox 360 there is no comparison but that doesn’t mean u can’t enjoy what u grew up on, besides a lot of today’s games came from others games from the 70s and early 80s for example rocket league IMO was based off a game from 1975 called car polo , it just seems to me that truly old school games get no love from modern gamers but without these early games that are considered dinosaurs u wouldn’t have the games of today so what u might consider boring but it’s the technology of that time

@@pez334 - I get it, and actually I still play way more old games than anything new. Your point is well made -- I do think a lot of these older games were CREATING genres, and inventing play mechanics, and they don't often get enough credit. It's definitely like building blocks - what came before helps create the next innovation.
So to be fair, my video looking back at the arcade games of 1979 was definitely not trying to see them in their historical light - or even point out any important innovations. Some really great games from 1979, but I think the golden years are just about to hit. Looking forward to making videos for the 80's Arcade scene!

@@vghchannel maybe a video about underrated or forgotten video games of the 80s , we all know about Pac-Man and donkey Kong, there seems to be a lot of top 10 lists but most of them have the same games ( for a reason I know) I just wish I would see other games get shed light on

@@pez334 - yeah! I like it. Have plans to do more than Top 10's for sure... problem is, well... too much to do In the Real World ;-) Really appreciate your feedback.
