    This video is great. I started playing chess recently and naturally over about 500 games I've leaned towards playing the modern defense, but never really understanding it completely. This helped highlight some of the responses white has that I've blundered before. Amazing work!

    at 10:30 I would recommend playing 4.e5, which is recommended for example by Tiger Hillarp Persson and Cyrus Lakdawala in their books. The endgame is very interesting and if you study it might offer excellent winning changes. Good games to study are for example Alexander Morozevich playing with black against Agrest and Bareev in 2004 and 2005. Against Agrest Moro won easily as Agrest simply did not seem to understand the endgame nowhere nearly as well as Moro.

    « So black is giving up the center to white, to disrupt the enemy camp later » since the center in chess like the shogi’s bishop’s head it’s like playing ranging rook. I like that, even though I am a static rook player, I still appreciate the fact that there are some ways to use your shogi knowledge into chess. Nice!

    I play nf6 as soon as they play bc4, especially if they have the knight on f3 already. You are then threatening nxe4 and the centre fork trick. It's not crushing for black or anything but it shows why the bishop isn't best placed on c4. Even though it looks aggressive.

    Excellent idea to showcase some possible pawn structures on a board with minimal pieces! This visual hue, having the board with only the most important information (the actual pawns), makes it is easier to stick to memory cognitively speaking. I will forever remember the possible 3 patterns of pawn structures in the modern.. Even better I think a good idea whould be to do it for every introductory video to each opening under consideration. Say take 3-4 popular lines and see whether the are patterns that arise from the formation of the pawns.
    Great, great video this one!

    But really thanks for your work on 1e4 series for both white and black. It helped a lot for me and now very good in knowing the theories and ideas for black peices. My favorite opening was scillian defence classical variation. I still use it in classical time format which gave me a lot of wins with black but I was struggling with blitz . But I really good with your favourite opening that's of course Caro kann which I am using in blitz and getting good wins with it when opponent plays 1 e4 . Thank you very much and hope you make more videos and hope your channel grow very well in future.

  • @artiphishle
    @artiphishle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    one question. does “Indian” mean something in particular, e.g. fianchetto and pawn (..e5 in King’s Indian) in front of it? or is it random and just means it’s an opening first seen in India or played by a Indian GM? it feels like “Indian” always related to some kind of (K side?) fianchetto position…?

    • @artiphishle
      @artiphishle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      in Anglo-Indian same for black (in the English) but pawn on ..c5 possible, so no own pawn blocking own B in this. However it’s already a “anglo-Indian” without the fianchetto (after ..Nf6) so it’s random? however there the plan seems also to be a K side fianchetto for black. always thought of some similarity or system…?

    I don't understand why ...Nf6 in the "Standard Line" is bad for black, but it's normal development in the "Three Pawn Attack". I mean, in both cases white has the e5-move. So what's the subtle difference that white's e4-e5 is bad (for black) in one case, and acceptable in the other? I think this is of huge importance in understanding the fundamentals in the earliest phase.

    • @timwheeler8523
      @timwheeler8523 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Pirc, when white plays e5 it hits the f6 Knight, which means black has to move it (or take the pawn). In the modern, with the knight on g8, e5 doesn't hit a knight, so black can choose to ignore it. Big benefit.
