    F-91 was actually the first Gundam anything I had ever watched as a small child, so I have a certain amount of nostalgic love for the F-91 itself. Its design is actually pretty interesting when you really look at it not just in universe, but considering the history around the movie itself at the time.
    I still think it has one of the coolest backpack boosters of any MS, and I do really appreciate that it tried to do something so different with its chest design compared to other Gundams, sort of like what Zeta tried to do with the general face design of a Gundam. In a lot of ways too it's really a Gundam of novelties: the backpack and chest design as mentioned, one of the few Gundams with blue-ish eyes (along with it's older brother F-90), the first of the downsized MS Gundams shown on screen, the retractable faceplate, and of course the beam shield. Overall its almost all white (even compared to other "main" Gundams, save Unicorn now of course.) has a simple and sleekly organic look with a lot of smooth rounded edges that really stands in stark contrast to the more angular features of Gundams before it (and even many after it.).
    In other words, you can really tell they wanted the F-91 to be THE *new* Gundam for a new era, mirroring the original intent for F-91 to be a series launching a completely new era for the franchise. Gundams' own "the next generation" sort of deal. Obviously, it didn't quite work out the way they wanted, but nonetheless a lot of the above still makes the F-91 a really appealing design to me, plus nostalgic love. It's not my favorite Gundam MS design nowadays but its still up there.

      F91 also has internal systems that can be diagnosed by people who play cat's cradle / ayatori. given that it is a kid's play, the implications of child soldiers is unsettling.

    So, basically, it is a fast vehicle with a 'V-chip' for non-Newtypes. It's a shame they made it permanent on the mass produced ones; that and the chance that Harrison could be one would've ended his fight against Seabrook quickly.
    Also, kudos for EFSF for finally breaking Aneheim's leash and making their own suit.

      The F91 piloted by was actually a mass production model. The prototype is the F90V. They installed the bio computer in its head during the movie, so the feddy test pilot would bring out it's full potential during the trials. The F91's in the crossbone manga lacked the bio computer, exept for Harrisons custom unit.

    • @MasterArchfiend
      @MasterArchfiend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny thing is that Aneheim still helped with the F90 series…by letting them use their facilities to make the units while they worked to come up with something else.
      If I recall, currently the newest MS of theirs was the Freedom seen in G Saviour which was outdated be a couple of decades by the time that movie took place. It really started here, but the dominos were falling in quite an interesting way.

    funnels are useless in both land and space in late universal century. Unless they are large enough to carry fire power that could penetrate the beam shields while capable of reaching the speed of an MS like F91. In later cases like crossbone gundam full cloth and v2 assault buster, I field generators and beam shields are all over them so funnels from early UC MS like qubeley would do no damage. Larger funnels with mega particle beam cannon couldn't scratch them either, VSBR, beam saber weapon and saber funnels are the only option.

    • @Rawsilver
      @Rawsilver 10 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I-fields tend to be limited to, well, limited production units. Even by Victory it's not a common feature. Funnels can still swarm around the target. Beam shields can only protect from the direction they are facing. I would hardly call them useless. The real problem with them as that you need newtypes. And they have to be good enough to manipulate them and pilot well enough not to get shot down. Cyber newtypes tend to be on edge at the best of times or flat out insane in the worst case scenarios.

    • @Errorcutive
      @Errorcutive 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i guess the problem with speed makes most sense, in order to have faster funnel it would need a bigger engine,and ms is in the age where speed>armor/feature, i mean look at unicorn, transformable mobile suit, psychoframe and funnel is in its golden era with the likes of Rezel, kshatriya and unicorn, where those go in uc 120s ? simple answer would be the federation have removed all those feature for something much more importan like speed and firepower, demostrated as in uc 90s jegan were effective due to their speed and reliability and mobile suit with heavy firepower like sinanju and unicorn tends to dominate the field if the pilot is capable of long range sniping, that is all.

    • @oim8254
      @oim8254 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Errorcutive But without armor, you are risking yourself for getting killed by just ONE shot. And get this, a lot of weapons have developed to make speed seems useless.
      What I think is that balance is everything.

    • @Errorcutive
      @Errorcutive 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Beam shield and Anti beam coating is better CHEAPER and easier to produce than thick armor, Also armor weight you down more when everyone is moving soo fast youre a sitting duck, look at the jegan in F-91 THEYRE SO SLOW to the point where den an zon could kick them like soccer ball, also which weapon make speed useless, speed isnt the only thing matter speed is useless when you move in a straight line but when you do manuever its definitely harder to aim at you, only newtype can do XxX360HaXscopeXxX and make movement useless, speed also is important to close in and melee.

    • @oim8254
      @oim8254 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Errorcutive Well, like I said before, balance is everything.
      I prefer to integrate beam shield into the whole frame of my suit so that my body is fully protected, also it is much cheaper that, like you said before, developing thick armor, and it is lighter than carrying the shield while wearing thick armor and you have more hand to carry other weapons (Because seriously, why carry a piece of defense when you can wear it?).

      It is small compared every thing that was built in UC... and Zeon are the worse offenders who just keeps building bigger, expensive, hard to maintain, and hard to pilot
      If you want tiny and powerful, Turn A, and no I'm not even referring to moonlight butterfly... this thing supplexes Wadoms 2 times it's size. I bet it can flip a Neo Zeong that tries to step on it.
      Then there's Gundam Double Fake. A mobile worker, turned Gundam (which is still fake), that bamboozled Zeon thinking it's real. Imagine piloting a Zeon prototype only to get your ass handed by a mobile worker in disguise.

      Maybe because it was Harrison Martin. And besides, the F97 Crossbone is the descendant of the F91. Technological advancements led to miniaturization of Mobile Suits and their innerparts, making their performance mass production even more efficient than ever before. Other private companies like the Buch Concern also aided here by developing the Dessa Types which would become Zondo Geis. From here on out, Mobile Suits are much smaller, but the technology paved by the creation of the Xi and the Penelope wouldn't be realized until the era of Gaia Gear.
