    Variety is the best. Save some space for newer versions of Camellias for the future. I am more of a Satsuki Azalea fan, but I still have space in my garden to add 1-3 new or rare Japanese azaleas. Your instructional and insightful videos are the best.

    My pansies are really disappointing this year too. I bought cheap ones last fall, I thought maybe that was the problem, but maybe it is because of all the rain? My winter kale and viola look great, but those are in containers. Maybe the extra drainage has helped? My pansies have never been this sad in March. I had not thought about blaming the endless rain, Hmmm. My crocuses are better than ever, and daffodils and tulips are poking their heads up, so their are still things to look forward to.

    I recently purchased Professor Sargent Camellia Japonica. I am in NJ Zone 7a. Since we were heavily snowed I did not plant it and left it on my deck. The direct sunlight scorched their leaves and they turned brown and fell off. I knew that Japonicas don't like direct sunlight but did not know that even direct sunlight in Winter can damage them. We had a couple of Sunny days when there was snow on the ground. I guess the sunlight compounded with snow glare was too much for the Camellia to handle. The temperature was in the 20s for a couple of days, which I think they can handle. Long story short, now I have a defoliated Professor Sargent. Not sure, whether I should plant it at all.

    • @JimPutnam
      @JimPutnam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would wait to plant it until it starts regrowing. No reason to give it another stress right now. If it was in the garage or out of any direct light for a while that could have also contributed to the burn.

    • @sudhansu9dm
      @sudhansu9dm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimPutnam Yes, you made the correct diagnosis. I had put the camellia in the garage for a bit of time when the temperature fell to the teens for a couple of weeks. I will let it leaf out before I plant it. Thanks for your advice!

    Holly is so cute she stays so close to you, she makes me want to go get a dog. Your front garden looks so beautiful, I hope we get to see it when as plants begin to bloom.

CAN YOU HELP??? all the leafs are starting to get black from the axile and then the go upward to the leafs petiole and mid rib, but they all fall pretty quickly after getting black from the axile and Im very very concerned!! i have looked everywhere online and i cant find an explanation to this anywhere!! meanwhile all the leaves are falling😭. the only insects or pests ( I don't know what it is ) are like very very tiny kinda greish or white bugs that are all over the soil and I see them climbing the tree trunk at the bottom. they are at the size of a dot looking kinda like aphid but much smaller and they are all over the soil I don't know if they are the responsible for all my leaves falling or what is ?? can you please help??🙏🙏🙏

Stunning in my garden here in UK though I do have to work to acidity my 6.5 ph soil. By the way, have you espaliered any of your Sasanquas? You can never have too many camellias, Jim. You should get a Camellia sinensis--the white flowers are smaller and less showy than sasanquas and japonicas, but it has lovely seed pods at this time of year and it blooms in late summer--so a different seasonality to it. I grow them in 7A, so they will do well for you there.

    Hi Jim . I have k my one camelia and it was doing beautiful . I was so proud . Suddenly from one day to another , I noticed some of the leaves were turning brown on tips and edges and falling off . I’ve noticed it’s still happening to more leaves . Am I going to lose it ? I wonder what I did wrong ? 😞

    Ten camellias - sounds good to me! I have one that was badly pruned two years ago, and I'm hoping it will bloom this year. Last year, I planted three more - two red "curly" camellias and a pink one named, "Our Linda". I plant roses and peonies to excess, and the deer eat the blossoms on my pink roses to excess. I have a question for you, Jim. I found out that what was sent to me as bluebells are yellow crocuses. I did, however, just find a box of what are supposed to be bluebell bulbs that shipped late and haven't been planted. Assuming the bulbs still seem viable, is it too late to plant them?
