Manual switching is how I do it too! I gave up on KVM switching a long time ago, and this is my exact solution as well, works like a charm every time. I feel zero compulsion to go back to KVM switching any time soon!
One of us, one of us 😅 Glad to hear I'm not alone. I played around with a separate KVM switch a few years ago and had similar niggles. It's a nice idea in theory, but in practice...
It is undeniably janky, but I appreciate you going through all these things so that I can avoid making at least some mistakes in the future myself! Wouldn't it be more practical to still use the cheap KVM in conjunction with having the second HDMI cable plugged to the monitor? That way you'd use the monitor controls to switch the HDMI "channel" but you could just press the KVM button instead of switching the USB cables. Or was the problem not only image related but also with the peripherals? Personally I'd just use a wireless mouse & keyboard that can be connected to both PCs at once (via bluetooth & usb receiver), but if you don't own those, there's still quite a bit investment...
Hah thanks, glad you liked my janky approach - if only so you know to avoid it yourself in the future 😆 Those are some great points though thanks. With the KVM switch, that would have worked, true - but I was able to return it, and I had the Anker hub so it felt like a "free" solution I guess. That's a great point about the wireless keyboard/mouse combo thanks. I don't currently have that exact setup, but I might switch to that in the future, that could be ideal for sure actually 🙂
@@TechOverwrite I didn't mean I'd avoid the jank! These are actually pretty great ideas, I meant I'd avoid making your previous mistakes and go straight into jank territory myself haha! Gotcha, free is always nice anyway! If you need recommendations for peripherals, I have a Logitech MX Master 3 that works pretty well, as for the keyboard I still gotta get myself one of those, but I know Keychron sells those (Q Pro series, but there's probably other models), they don't come very cheap though.
Hah no worries at all, that makes sense. But I wouldn't be offended if people did avoid this method 😂 Thanks for the recommendation, I've seen some reviews especially of the Logitech and they seem great.
Underrated channel
Thanks I really appreciate that 🙂
