30 PC Cases Compared - From Micro ITX to Tank ATX
มุมมอง 12912 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I have always been interested in how computer cases vary in size (and price) a LOT. I mean, the Inwin BK623 is a fan favorite of the small-form factor community, measuring just 14cm / 5.5" wide and 32.3cm / 12.7" tall. But you then have a 'desk ATX' (i.e. full tower ATX) case called the Phanteks Enthoo Elite which is 27cm / 10.6" wide and 75cm / 29.5" tall. Why do they vary so much? And if you ...
I'm Done… With My Media Workflow Upgrades
มุมมอง 11319 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
A few months ago I launched a new series called the 'Media Workflow Upgrade Series' (snappy name I know), because the way that I was producing video content was a bit too cumbersome and laggy. After making a BUNCH of upgrades, I have now 'finished' the upgrades (or I'm as close to being 'finished' as us techies can be!). So in this video I run through the various changes I made, and why I'm fin...

Multi-Rail PSUs: Essential... Or Overkill?

When choosing a new PSU, it's easy to get decision paralysis - especially when people sometimes say that multi-rail PSUs are "safer". They're also more expensive, and some people say that they can lead to more crashes (in certain cases). So... which is best: single-rail or multi-rail PSUs? I drill into the history and detail of PSUs to answer that question, and I also show off a crazy expensive...
How To PROPERLY Power High End GPUs (With 12vhpwr Or 3x PCIe Connectors)
มุมมอง 2.4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
In a previous video I discuss how it's unusually not advisable to power your low or mid range GPU with a single PCIe cable, due to inherent limitations that exist in the PCIe cable - especially if it's a budget (low guage) one. But what about high end graphics cards, like cards from NVIDIA like the RTX 4080 or RTX 4090, or AMD cards like the RX 7900 XTX or RX 6900 XT? And what should you do if ...
Why The Pros Don't Use Ethernet For High Speed Networking
มุมมอง 28321 วันที่ผ่านมา
When I attempted to upgrade my study from 1 to 10 Gigabit networking, I quickly found that there is a world of non-Ethernet based home networking out there. In-fact, Ethernet is barely ever used as the central delivery mechanism for 10Gb, 25Gb and 100 Gigabit networks. So in this video I run through exactly how the pros (network engineers) tend to achieve high speed networking within a home, of...

Hey man i got a really important question. I accidently pluged my gpu into the wrong thing i got a gpu chord that was one side female and other side male and i plugged it into the 8pin cpu power chord to my power supply and turned it on. and it smelled like fire and blew out. is my graphics card fried or just the power supply
Amazing thumbnail lmao If there's one thing I learned from this video is that is that I shouldn't be turning my PC sideways while cleaning it. In retrospect, that makes a lot of sense lol. And also that Mr. Overwrite has chlamydia.
Haha thanks, and thankfully the antibiotics have started to work.. this time around!! Glad the tips made sense to you too lol :)
That thumbnail is great. Lol
Hah thanks, glad you liked it :)
can firewire card x1 fit into normal pcie ? cause i cant see any dv from my camera :/
Yes you should be fine to fit x1 into a full size x16 slot, no issues there. If it's not loading then double check the drivers I guess, but it should physically fit yes. I hope you can get it working okay.
Can I use those pigtail on RX 5700 XT? (sorry for my english)
It should be fine in 99% of cases yes :)
I probably not gonna play more than 100hours a month but the fact that there is a limit for subscription service is such bullshit since it’s not even cheap either
True, it's certainly not cheap - especially on the Ultimate tier. I just don't like my watch hours being tracked tbh.
Can you please provide the link of the cables to buy from? I have a MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 power supply. Is there any compatibility issues for the PCIE5 cable you just mentioned? I mean will those work on my power supply to GPU?
Do you mean when I mentioned CableMod? If so, they support your PSU but only with a custom config. So you can go here and play around a bit: store.cablemod.com/configurator/?service=direct&psu_brand=msi&psu_model=689
Man, here in Brazil, we pay a month equivalent to 10 dollars to only have 40 hours available 🤡 And the most expensive monthly plan only entitles you to 80 hours! And once the hours are up, we pay the equivalent of $4 to add another 10 hours of gameplay. I am an Xcloud user, however, unfortunately the graphic quality there in the cloud is far below what is desired. The graphic quality of Geforce plus the option to feel safe setting up your library is cool. But paying for hours played, it's horrible. If Xcloud puts the store to buy games for the cloud, and manages to implement the graphics improvement, Xcloud has everything to be the definitive cloud service.
Lian Li O11 Air Mini missing from the list.
Unfortunately I couldn't cover everything, but that's a great case for sure.
So much misinformation... dont mention the fact that each CONNECTOR is rated 150w, not each cable. Seem to ignore the fact that 16 AWG is rated up to 226w if you have a quality psu. In other words, its actually fine to do this, so stop living in the past and realise its no longer 10 years ago
That's fair, I did miss out a fair bit of key information here - that's why I ended up bringing out the (linked) related video, which does discuss the 226w+ supply depending on cable gauge. If I could edit shorts, I would - but that's 'kinda why I created the longer, related video instead. Thanks for pointing this out.
Just increase the monthly price are add a new unlimited tier if not then i dont see this service making profit and people that arent affected don't want to be on a time clock
Agreed, I would be happy enough to pay slightly more for unlimited.
So if I understood correctly, the main difference is the cooling?
Yes, and customer service/RMA levels. For example Asus tend to have lower CS levels than some other companies. But fundamentally the GPU should be the same, or very similar (i.e. when you ignore cooling)
@TechOverwrite Thanks! That means I shouldn't worry too much if I get a gpu under a thousand bucks!
@PlayMyLifeOF hah yeah, I feel that 😄
Thank you for the info, now i can install gta 5 way faster😂
Hah no worries, happy gaming 😄
Agreed kid. I literally downgraded my Ultimate Founders account and bought a AMD Ryzen 7. Freaking caps. That's a huge no go for me.
Thanks for the comment, caps suck. They stress me out lol. Going local is the best solution IMO.
Thank you this helped a lot. Liked the way you explained it.
Glad to hear that, glad this helped you out 🙂
Hello, Im just wondering. Is it okay to pigtail my rx6700xt hell hound I'm not planning on overclocking it. I have corsair cx 650 bronze. Which has only has 2 6+2 pigtailed.
Hello. It's probably just under borderline, so it should be fine though. Just try it out - you won't damage it if it's underpowered, maybe you'll just have some crashes. It imagine it'll be fine though 🙂
@TechOverwrite Thank you so much for clarifying
Dude you’re the only one that had a video that helped me with this. Thank you!
Glad I could help, it's a confusing area for sure 🙂
I guess this comes down to what you define as "cheap" or "expensive", but there's some really good and relatively cheap wireless mice out there, Redragon makes good budget stuff that'll last you years without any lag whatsoever! I don't mind wires on other things, but they particularly bother me on mice (and controllers). If you need to move it around to use it, it shouldn't have wires attached! A great video, I love this... Oh hey I see myself at the end there!
Yes that's a fair point about mice wires... I do like the idea of wireless mic, but I've always cheaped out on them (and then unfairly criticised wireless ones lol!). Thanks for the suggestion about Redragon, I'll have to check them out. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the regular comments, I appreciate it :)
For anyone interested in the Fractal Design Torrent... It's cool that the PSU is hidden up top, but that makes it hard for the PCIe cables to reach the GPU, so if you don't have extra long ones or extensions, the cable situation is not gonna look pretty.
Ah that's an interesting point thanks, I love the look of the Torrent but I can imagine the cable situation looking messy for sure.
Hi Just Purchased a Corsair EM750e power pack which has only got 4 pcie/cpu outputs. I have got 2x8 pins input on the Mother board, but also 3x8 pins requirement on the Graphic card! So if i am not allowed to use the splt cable that came with the power pack for the Grapich card, What are my options?
Hi, good question. So you might not need to use 2x cables for your CPU - double check the motherboard manual, but often just 1x cable can work (even if the motherboard has 2x slots). Secondly two separate PCIe cables is often enough for 95% of graphics cards, since this would mean at least 375w of power to a graphics card (150w + 150w + 75w) - meaning you can then use a pigtail connection if your GPU needs a third PCIe connector. Hope that makes sense.
@@TechOverwrite Thanks for your reply. A day is a long time in the PC world lol. Just found out the second 8pin conecter on the Motherboards are for CPU needs over 300 Watts. My CPU 7700x has a power max requirement of about 150w. So, three seperate cables will be going to the Grapihc card and one to the CPU. The thing to watch for is the PCIe cables are difrently wired to the CPU ones. So a single PSIe cable is required to be purchased
@@scifi3702 heh yeah you're right about a day being a long time lol. Ahhh nice research, yes I agree - sounds like you've come to the same conclusions I would have. That sounds a good plan - good luck with the build :)
If the single cable out puts 250w plus a pcie slot can give you 70w why is it a problem? Maybe for gpus the exceed that, but seems like it should be fine for anything less than 300w
A fair comment, and I discuss this more in the linked related video. Basically some PCIe cables give out as little as 150w, so then a GPU with a TDP ABOVE 225w might be underpowered. Although I appreciate that some PSU PCIe cables can supply 280+w, which is then less of an issue :)
My screen blacks out after running for 20 mins is it graphics card problem or my motherboard pcie is burnt. I broke the lock of pcie 16x slot.
Sometimes 10 or 5 mins. I thought it was my nvme but it happened even after installing win 10 on an hdd
Sorry to hear that. Does the screen black out only when gaming? Is the power usage of the GPU fairly high (when checking AMD Software or NVIDIA GeForce Experience)? If so it could be a graphics card problem. But if you're receiving general issues, maybe clear the CMOS battery and then see if the issue persists. It could be a motherboard issue if you still have problems.
Why do you introduce complexity and moving parts with networking when all you need is a storage case like Fractal Define R5 or R7 XL. Do you need 24/7 access to video files from multiple devices?
I feel personally insulted. Kidding. You're 100% right - my approach is overkill, at least right now. I do plan on editing on a laptop in the coming months though, so moving out the video files (from just my workstation PC) has always been the goal. Plus I have a software development background and so I like having a 24/7 Linux box in my house, where I have various scripts and things I'm working on. In short, my approach IS overkill - but it's still useful and offers more future proofing than if I just went out and purchased a 4TB drive for my PC (for example). Thanks for the comment though :)
@@TechOverwrite I get it, we're on the same page, I just think that concept of future proofing is upselling for stuff we don't need in present.
@@EVR1AL yeah I kind of agree. I guess since I am actively looking at doing video editing on a laptop too soon, I didn't want to buy a laptop and then get 'something' to house my video content on (i.e. a NAS). But I do agree with your general point for sure :)
Thanks for the clarification!🙂👍
No worries, glad to help :)
i use the free one lol
Lol that's fair. Other than the queue times, it's good that GFN offers free to be fair. It's nice to have free cloud gaming.
Hey I just bought a 3060 ti which has a 12 pin connector, I’m wondering if I can use 2 6-pin PcIe connector or I should just use the 8 to 12 pin adapter? I have cable extension so I would rather use 2 6-pin.
hi, i bought the 7900xtx sapphire and i have a gigabyte 1000w but the pcie cables are ugly asf its ok to use corsaire single cable with a gigabyte pwrsuply ?
Hi, I would not do this no. Everything might be wired differently, so I would not want to chance mixing Corsair cables with a Gigabyte PSU. CableMod might be the better choice here.
super review - thank you
Thank you, I'm glad that you liked it :)
Awesome Video
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Hey man, I have a "Sparkle intel arc a580 oc edition" and a asrock b450m/ac r2.0. The problem is when I dissable csm, the logo to go to csm dosent appear, and even when I spam it I still can't get there. After shutting, or trying to restart, the pc just stops displaying anything. Which forces me to reset bios. Anything I can do to fix this issue?
Hey man, hmm sorry to hear it. Unfortunately I can't think what else to try - assuming your BIOS is up to date, of course. If so, maybe you'll need to contact ASRock support because you definitely should be able to boot up with CSM disabled.
Hm interesting, I’ve noticed I was getting game crashes with the 7900xtx nitro (with more demanding games) and I was using a pigtail got new cables coming tomorrow
Interesting, that's an awesome GPU and I could see it crashing in that case. I hope the new cable sorts things out for you :)
@ quick question is it worth going with 1000w psu for the nitro?
@@Brandon63991 I think 800w is the recommended PSU, and to be honest that should cover it. I mean, 1000w would be great, but 800w will work too.
hi, how to get another separate 1x8 pin? is that coming from modular psu only?
Hi, whoops good question. Yes that would be for modular PSUs. If you only have a single PCIe cable, you might want to undervolt your GPU or choose a GPU with a TDP under 225W IMO.
@@TechOverwrite thanks for reply....btw the card i wanted is rx 5700xt......is thas 225 watts.....should i buy modular psu for this card
@@reinn-df2ti No worries :) You should be okay to have a non-modular PSU with that card to be honest, it's not super power hungry IMO. I prefer modular PSUs due to the better cable management, but it's not essential here.
I am using 7900 GRE, should I use 2 PCIE cable to connect my GPU ?
Yes I would use two separate cables here :)
Thank you! Really, thank you so much for this video!
Glad it was helpful! 🙂
putting a limit on a monthly subscription is just fucking stupid. even worse is if you manage to even hit the 100 hour limit say 2 weeks in they will automatically drop you to free tier even if you still have days left in the sub you paid for. they should just drop memberships all together at this point
I agree, it's frustrating 😔 While I don't game as much anymore, I would have easily hit 100 hours a few years ago. It would have been stressful to keep track of my play hours.
this made my gaming smoother not improve fps but its smooth
I feel like they do this so everyone subs now until the end of 2025 and then they'll say actually we'll revert it or if you stay even more you can keep the unlimited time...
Yes that wouldn't surprise me. I also think that they'll eventually lower the 100 hours on the Performance tier, probably to 75 hours or something 😔
Actually would be smart but never seen a company do that that will hurt them long terms
4070 I need only 1 slot and I have pig tail connector, it’s a problem?
Good question, I discuss this in a separate video because the 12vhpwr is slightly different: th-cam.com/video/5a-CPC8eSDQ/w-d-xo.html
I feel like this may be an issue i am having. Would it also cause big fps drops and maybe keep me from getting my max fps? Just wanna be sure before i buy a new psu.
Yes it could definitely limit your FPS rates. Maybe check the power usage in the NVIDIA or AMD software - if you're seeing FPS drops when the power usage is above 200w-250w, it's likely to be the issue IMO 🙂
Whenever i go to the bios i dont see the bifurcation setting
Which motherboard do you have? It can be in weird places, although often it's under IO or PCIe sections. Worth noting that not all motherboard ms support bifurcation unfortunately.
@@TechOverwrite I have a asus B550M-A
Sorry man, but it looks like the "A" variant doesn't support BIOS bifurcation 😔 Check out the tables here: www.asus.com/support/faq/1037507/
What if you have a non-modular psu with one non-removable cable?
A fair question, I should have covered this point. In that case, you'll either need to limit the GPU you buy (a 300w GPU won't be good for example) or undervolt your GPU so that it consumed a bit less power.
Great video! Now that you've got the hardware/software dialed in, I'd love to see a workflow video. Something like "Idea -> research -> script -> filming -> editing -> publishing".
Many thanks, I was thinking of you when making this video 🙂 I totally agree that diving into my full workflow would be good too, I'm still weighing up the best way of approaching it but it's on the list for sure - thanks 👍
Well, now geforsenow gamers will have one more task - calculating how many hours they have left for the month.
Yep 😔 I used to game 3 hours a night. I would find this new cap stressful tbh.
Did geforce now helped you those few months save some electricity bill? Thats also one of the few pros of cloud gaming
Yes that's a fair point, I used it a fair bit over the summer and it was also great to have a cool room after gaming (usually my study is really warm when gaming). 🙂
@@TechOverwrite What games did you use it for? Free 2 play ones like fortnite or single player games
I tested out Rocket League and it worked fairly well, then some single player ones like Cyberpunk. So nothing super-competitive, but RL was still online and I had no real issues (at Ultimate tier) :)
My experience with geforce now is great... if you pay for the upgrades. The free one is only worth it if you have nothing to do and you're at for example something like school. I wasn't able to check if you're able to switch what type of streaming you can choose before buying ultimate. the options were, balanced which makes the quality better, but the delay is bigger or competitive, which when using in cs;go I could barely notice and delay and play as normal. for 20$ a month to play games I love at 4k 240 fps it was a great deal and with Ethernet, it's a seamless experience.
Yes I agree entirely, the free version isn't a great advert for the service really. I was blown away with Ultimate though, it was great 🙂 Good point about Ethernet too.
Spectrum is currently running a 100GB line to my house. I'm hoping it works better than the 10gb line they had previously.
Woah that sounds amazing 🙂 You could download the latest COD in seconds lol (well, once your storage catches up).
This is such bullshit. Ist just 6% of all gamers on GFN spending more time on it. So for 94 out of 100 people it will be a better experience. Stop complaint before understanding the reasons. Performance and electricity and chips are not infinite resources.
If only 6% of gamers use over 100 hours, why did they need to make the change?
@ serious question? 6% of paying users need probably half of the performance of the service because they are just gaming all day long. I did that too when I was younger but this Plattform is not build for it and obviously just not profitable. So if 94 people still use it and pay and you have the performance for another 94 by limiting the 6 guys who are just playing video games in their lives (no judgement) you do exactly what they do. Again performance and resources are not limitless and if you can double the amount of users for the same money you double the profit. The stupid part is that people show the middlfinger by building themselves a new pc with new NVIDIA graphic cards. :D which makes NVIDIA even more money. 😅 The price is ridiculously low for a comparable performance with your own PC. So I genuinely do not get the complaining about it. I can play 2-3 years for the price of a ps5 on much better performance.
Thanks for the detailed comment/reply 🙂 I actually meant, I doubt whether it is just 6% of users. I think it is more. If it was just 6%, surely this change is not going to save NVIDIA much money? But yes, I do agree with the gist of your comment that cloud gaming isn't really for more hardcore gamers. It is meant for casual gaming. In some ways it is good that NVIDIA/GFN are now honest about that (with this new cap), but I dislike that it applies even to the expensive Ultimate tier. Maybe 150 hours on Ultimate would have been better?
