“Sad beige Moms” strike again. “Just like home amenities” So when I was little, we had in our house a room which was the fancy place that we only used when we had guests over. My parents called it “The No No Room”. We were not supposed to go into this room because it had to be kept clean and nice. These island tower rooms have big “No No Room” energy. I am going to be 50 years old in 8 days and I don’t want to go into that room. The decor fills me with anxiety.
I respect Tom for not reviewing Tiana's Bayou Adventure until he has seen it in person. Still, however, I feel that the Disneyland version will be silghtly better than the Magic Kingdom version, simply because the Disneyland attraction is more compact and will likely have fewer dead spots. I also gotta agree with Tom that specially-branded packaged food with original attraction characters is more of what we need in the parks. 😊
I’ve never been on the Disneyland splash. I’m going to Disneyland in September while I’m in LA, hoping Tiana’s will be open by then but highly doubt it.
I'd say the DVC rooms look like a Holiday Inn in Hawaii, except they actually have color in Hawaii. Whoever thought beige is the color of air, sky and water is clearly colorblind.
We didn’t ask for our money back from Jollywood but we were chatting to a cast member in animal kingdom (who had been the same night) about how disappointing we had found it, she asked if we’d fill in a review form which we did, chatted some more and then got on with our day… two days later I get a notification I have a refund 😮 I think with a lot of work it could be a great night.
I sent a vid of it to my brother, and his only comment was "Beige." Some effort went in, obviously, but a little color going in would have also been very nice.
We were there today and the extra characters and dance party was awesome. My son was the one who didn’t get to meet Phineas & Ferb at Jollywood Nights (1st night) due to Disney PR allowing influencers to cut the line. So when we saw them today just there dancing, we were in shock. My son had amazing interactions with both of them and I got pictures of him with each of them. Just Iike you said, this is something that is the Disney difference.
Multiple entertainment offerings are canceled unexpectedly right after the entertainers unionize, but yeah, we totally don’t know why they’re ending. (It’s definitely 100% for sure totally not retaliation)
Wow! The room you are staying in looks great…looks more like a ride set than a room design. The new DVC stuff looks like a “timeshare down in Destin,” to quote a pop song.😆
I worked in corporate Interior design in Hawai`i for hotels and commercial real estate develpment Tom and I agree with your opinion of the new Polynesian tower. The vague suggestion of Polynesian culture is as bland as it is insulting. The biggest aspect of Polynesian culture is revolves around bringing the outside inside, as to reinforce a central belief about living in harmony with nature. Nature is colorful. The lead designer looks like they listened to a realtor who stated, "beige appeals to everyone." For Disney to insist they continue to be the "premier" designers and story tellers . . . well perhaps a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
It is designed for HOA loving non-ethnic people that don’t like theming. It is telling when the GFV and every other dvc room have 1000x more color and theming than this Marriot Courtyard level fake out.
Tom your room is so awesome, I was sure you were using a blue screen background. It’s soooo fun! Much more fun than boring new Poly rooms. I might as well be down the street at the JW Marriott.
I loved Jollywood nights! So glad it’s coming back. I’m so glad you took the time to go back. Really shows you care, and aren’t just all about the hype.
If i wanted to stay in a nice, upscale, beige white room, I would just stay at the four seasons or the hilton. Disney is quickly losing what makes them special.
The four seasons isn't on the monorail loop.. that is exactly what this hotel is supposed to be. A nice hotel near Disney property. Not a uber themed Disney rooms. Tom seems to have forgotten this
@@nathanielskiba6366 The Polynesian is specifically supposed to be highly themed though. It's in the name, "Polynesian". It's supposed to evoke a specific culture and a specific time period. I don't understand Disney's drive to de-theme theme park resorts.
Great rant! I think Disney relies on fans who haven’t stayed at truly premium hotels and think these flat, beige walls and cheap furnishings are fancy. If you think about it, their attitude is haughty and offensive.
I think the new Poly DVC rooms look great! Lots of class. Of course I also love the Riveria rooms that many hate. Yes I agree the Cabins are stupid. Our home resort is OKW since 1996 and I even love the new look to the lobby. I guess the only taste I have is in my moth!
While I *do* like the rooms, I also agree that they are NOT AT ALL a Disney room. I can get that room at any other expensive hotel. When I go to DISNEY, I want to see DISNEY.
This is DVC... They have never been super Disney themed.. if you want Disney theming you have that option. If they don't make rooms like this there would be no option for people who don't.

I know this is part of your job and Eric has been fantastic but I’m looking forward to seeing you back at the helm! It just doesn’t feel right without you!
I think it is a good thing to be critical of Disney. Disney is or rather has been so great at setting a very nigh precedent of quality and theming, so when we get something like a light-themed DVC tower at the Polynesian, we should call it out, otherwise Disney will just keep cutting theming budgets and make more bland, undifferentiated resorts buildings, which in the long run can tarnish the Disney brand.
Regarding the removal of entertainment offerings at the Disneyland Resort, following the unionization of Entertainment Cast Members: When Disney opened the Disneyland version of Galaxy's Edge, they staffed Savi's Workshop with specially-trained retail cast members, instead of the more expensive actors used at Walt Disney World. I know people gave Disney a bad time about that for "cutting corners" to "cut costs," but I actually really appreciated the opportunity for regular Cast Members such as myself to become a Gatherer. Because everyone there was a retail Cast Member, there was a level of camaraderie and cooperation that simply wouldn't exist if one Cast Member was paid more than everyone else. However, this solution is rather untenable at Avengers Campus, since the actors need to look like specific Marvel characters. I really hope that Disney finds a legal way to continue the live entertainment offerings at DCA. 😊
I have to laugh though, because the woman doing the room tour just completely blends into the background like a chameleon. She kind of gives me "Stepford Wives" vibes too.
The new DVC tower room seem to depict HI after climate change as it’s so tan with no greens and blues. I’m not interested in those rooms - can stay at dolphin and swan with more color for a cheaper rate. 😂❤ thanks Tom
