  • In our previous video on Joseph Gannascoli, we took a look at The Sopranos actor's strange experiences with Sopranos fans.
    In today's episode, it's Steve Schirripa vs Joseph Gannascoli, as we take a look at the apparent beef between the Vito Spatafore actor and the rest of The Sopranos cast.

      On another subject..
      The sopranos podcast had a writer on who said there was a sopranos show based on a wise guy who was crazy & totally influenced by Andrew Loog Oldham (the savvy svengali around the early rolling stones) he's alive & living in Colombia & I used to do bits of online press for him few yrs ago.. so I mailed him when I heard this on the podcast.. but don't think he believed me
      (Andrew was good friends with Van Zandt, working on his radio show a few yrs back.. but they fell out.. Steven got Andrew lined up with an award at the RnR Hall of fame event.. but Andrew never picked it up as he didn't want to be handed the award by Peter Asher.. so Van Zandt wasn't impressed)

      Here all along I thought suffered from the 3.5 season curse . When tge series starts running dry on content. Key indicators are dream sequences and anything resembling a musical episode, and additionally characters going so far from the original it's hard to believe. Rescue Me also suffered from this curse.
      But in reality it's was vitos pole greasing ways .

      Let me tell you something. Nowadays everybody's got to make a drama on internet, and write huge wall text of a posts on all their socials, and make exposés on each other on TH-cam that conveniently go beyond 10 minutes even if most of the video is just empty and a waste of time.
      Whatever happened to telephone tough guy?
      The strong, silent type; that was a true tech connoisseur. He wasn’t in touch with his target audience , he just gave the most abominable slurs and curses and threw the phone away.
      So what they didn’t know, once they got Telephone Tough Guy in touch with his feelings, that they wouldn’t be able to make everything about his brand! And then it’s ‘(Insert Twitter drama)is huge, '(Insert Twitter Microcelebrity) situation is horrible, (Insert trivial internet drama) vaffanculo!’

      Lmao that's a really good point, in particular Bobby seems incredibly arrogant and the kind of guy who gets angry deep down cause all anybody knows him as is "Bobby", same with the actor who played Christopher only i know for a *fact* that's how HE is lol.

      It's often is the case that the worst villains actors are often the nicest people around & some of the good guys actors are very arrogant + not so likeable in real life. The two actors on the Sopranos that seemed to be the most like their personality characters in real life are Paulie & Adrianna.

    • @CommanderLongJohn
      @CommanderLongJohn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +67

      @jakep1979 I'd have to put Tony in with those two as well, cause James Gandolfini was apparently the greatest thing since sliced bread particularly to the other cast members-having catered meals brought in for them, free massages by pro massage therapists and all kinds of stuff like that, apparently he was just the most generous and nicest guy and even stood with the other cast mates on a few occasions like when they all wanted a raise in pay while James was *banking* off it hard but he still stood by them.
      Tony Sirico on the otherhand (Paulie), I think it's because he was a legit 'mob hand,' just a regular guy who probably never once in his life thought he'd be an actor until way down the line; he was arrested on drug and weapons charges before, and was clearly acting as muscle for the Mafia, on some level, after his time in the Army (where he also became an amateur pro boxer). There's an old interview with him on here from the 90s, he talks about his past a bit but specifically about the time he was driven to murder over this broad that he fell in love with and even left his own wife for, I can't remember all the details but either some guy was hitting on her or he did something to her so he just went off on this guy, and he all but admits that he killed him. But even despite his criminal past, he was a really nice and down to earth guy.

    • @fuckzogtube
      @fuckzogtube 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      @@rafaelvono9129 if you watched some interviews with him, you'd know he was not like that. There was obviously a tad of caricature added to the character. He didn't even talk at that voice tone and had those manneurisms. He was kind of the comedy relief of the gang and he understood that.

    Schirripa literally made the show unlistenable for me. I listened to a bunch of episodes, trying really hard to tune him out, but I just couldn't. He derailed every interesting line of thought Imperioli tried to explore and was pathologically incapable of having a serious conversation about anything. Nor was he funny or remotely interesting as a person. It's not just that he had nothing to add to the show, it's that he actively sabotaged it. I was so interested in so many things Imperioli had to say. He was a serious, thoughtful guy who could provide endless interesting thoughts about the artistry of the show in particular and of theater, film, etc. in general. Schirripa would have none of it. Like it pained him allow Imperioli to offer substantive, reflective, thoughtful commentary.
    It's a real pity too because the show could have been great. God, the man was insufferable.

      @@babylonian.captivity I called Schirripa out on his lack of personal implication and he insulted me which I reuploaded to my channel because it was hilarious,😂😂
      Now, Imperioli is a horrible, no good pretentious leftist, but with all his flaws he is a smart and cultivated dude and his psychological and philosophical takes on the meaning of some of the deepest scenes (specially the dreams) were really worth exploring for a fan like me. UNFORTUNATELY every time something like that would came up, Schirripa would brush it off with a lewd joke or something to that effect and go straight to the next scene.
      These episodes came out during lockdowns so I really had nothing better to do, but it was extremely frustrating indeed.
      Schirripa felt genuinely offended when I called him out on his BS so I don't think he was actively trying to sabotage the discussion (as in, bad intentions), it's just that the IQ discrepancy between the two made the dialogue impossible.
      Sub 100 IQ people like Schirripa literally CAN NOT understand let alone discuss abstract concepts and reasoning.
      That's just noise to them, and if you try too hard to make them understand or point it out to them they can become violent, so at some point Imperioli just gave up on the scenarios and started making lewd jokes too. Sad !

    This is a feud between two actors that would get minimal roles in theater or TV outside of the Sopranos. They have the ethnicity and accent that made them perfect for the Sopranos, along with so many others. They both did extremely well in their character arcs, and one wonders what the writers or Chase saw in them to give them so much screen time. They both did the best with the acting skills, and it was obvious to both of them after their on-screen deaths that they would never amount to anything in their future acting careers. The Sopranos gave the opportunities to so many who would only play stereotypical Italian-American tough guys and let them flesh out their characters. Coming down from a series like the Sopranos and maybe their own insecurities as bona fide actors, it’s only natural that these men would be so bitter. Still, kudos on doing an amazing job. Your roles were unforgettable parts on the best series I have ever seen.

    It seems like Gannascoli just hit gold and found a show that can pay for the rest of his life and he got lazy and just wanted to juice that. After gandolfini died i’m guessing he didn’t want to profit off of his death, i don’t think anyone really wants to do that, he just got carried away. Gannascoli did nothing wrong. Gannascoli proposed a great story idea and the writers went with it. I doubt Scrippa would have wanted his character gay to get the screentime, so he just needs to get over it at this point. The arguing over who really knew James Gandolfini was lame - obviously Gannascoli shared a lot of scenes with the guy so probably did feel crushed by the death.

    It looks to me like Gannascoli's biggest sin in all this is...he isn't as rich as the other cast members, and has to kind of hustle for money in a way the others would not. "Grandstanding" or selling stuff out of the trunk...okay. Not admirable, but let's call it a forgivable sin. And as the video makes clear, some of the allegations are plenty suspect. Feuding with Schirripa over attention or whatever...that's Hollywood! Just part of that world. You need that kind of ego to show up to audition after audition and be told you're not the guy, and you walk out of there convincing yourself that the people you desperately wanted to work for were wrong, and that next time it's going to happen for you. Without that kind of ego, you can't make it in show biz...and then when you put guys like that together in a room, sometimes they clash. It doesn't mean much in the end compared to being big parts of what some say is the greatest TV show of all time. I hope they mend fences.

And instead of blaming the killing on the mobster's he blamed it on the relative for being gay. Obviously there is respect there but I think he was just a reserved man who worked appreciated his cast members and that was that. Now all this other stuff about Joseph going and stalking fans I can’t defend that if there’s multiple accounts of it it’s probs true. But to the videos point not many of the cast has found the same lightning in a bottle. It’s sad but the show was what it was and here we are learning about the depths and it kind of breaks the immersion.

Even tho they were already planning for Furio to leave, initially the way he left was different than what actually happened. Hence Furios dismissal being so abrupt.

    Gannascoli’s story that Gandolfini took him aside at the reading and told him he didn’t have to do the gay Vito storyline isn’t believable. That’s because it was Gannascoli himself who pitched this specific storyline. All the cast - and most obviously Gandolfini - was aware that Gannascoli pitched this storyline. That was reported at the time the episode originally aired. Gannascoli’s story that Gandolfini was looking out for him was put out there to paint a picture that he and Gandolfini were close.
    And all the stories of Gannascoli’s money-grabbing exploits shows him to be a no-character piece of crap.

    I might be getting some of the details slightly wrong as I haven't listened to the story in a while, but that's the gist of it. And this isn't to throw shade at Schirripa, as it sounds like there was no resentment between him and Otto over it - just that he does seem to be a big personality who doesn't have a problem expressing when he's angry about something, and some people really can't handle that.
