- In The Sopranos, gangster Bobby Bacala starts off as a bumbling character, oafish and considered a laughing stock by the other mobsters. However, as the show goes on, Bobby proves himself to Tony Sopranos, and shows that he is the strong, silent type.
Let's take a look at the rise of Bobby Baccalieri, and his tragic ultimate downfall.

BRO YOU UNDERSTAND ENOUGH TO GET STRAIGHTENED OUT YOURSELF YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE THE SKILL TO BE A VARSITY MOBSTER!!
It's not a toy store for children, it's a train store. It's a hobby, why you gotta belittle it?
😂 Thats exactly what Bobby would say
I agree, but it's a toy that evolves into a hobby over time. I am a train enthusiast as well. Mine began as a 70's kid watching Westerns and classic films. Also, the television show "Supertrain" that was like "The Love Boat" on land.
Honestly that annoyed me as well. It's very clearly a hobby shop not a toy store. Well back to Warhammer, and moms basement.
Check out the moe n joe action.
This is the comment I was looking for...
Bobby marryng janice is the worst punishment in the series by far
The way janice was obsessed with him eating his dead wife’s last ziti. I never cringed with anger before.
In the going with or marrying Janis department, Ralph got off easy, just thrown down the stairs. Not so lucky thought for Ritchie who she manipulated, then shot. But Bobby had it worse, she destroyed his family from the inside out.
@@azariasthelast that pissed me off too. He was mourning and she didn’t give a damn.
Not to mention there is better looking men in the can then Janice
she helped him move up in the ranks though
It's hilarious that the character of Bobby who is literally in the Mafia still manages to be more likable than Schirripa in real life.
lot of the characters like that!!
Ralph for example
They don’t call it acting for nothing
Sounds like the 3 of ya hound dogged him in public and you're sour you didn't get what you wanted from him.......
" good guy"
have you guys seen him being on Eric Andre's show? which is a very non-serious comedy show and Andre makes fun of his Marinara sauce that Schrimpa was selling and he got so offended he threw him off his chair and said "I'll seriously f^%$ you up", btw the only guest that got that offended
and a lot of people didn't watch the Talking Sopranos podcast because he's that annoying, dude was such a yapper with such a massive lack of understanding of the writing of the show for someone who's had inside knowledge
Paulie: Trains? Autism????
Tony: Nobody’s got autism!
I don't want to hear those words in here again!
Think about it. Burying a cake for his dead wife?
that can't be said enough. So many parents today try to diagnose their kids with that it's not even funny....

So during the entire Tony vs. Phil war, Bobby was sitting around thinking "I WANNA GO BUY MORE TRAINS."
If he wanted to pursue driving toy trains he should have done so quietly!

Bobby (De Niro): It's worth the stretch.
I'm so sick of the idea that Bobby was some tragic figure or a good guy. He wasn't. He was a piece of shit and marginally better than the others
True shit!!
I mean he is tragic in that...he met his end because of his own misdoings lol. But that's all of them isn't it.
His WORST crime was all the crimes he committed
I like Bobby more than shrippa.
This is true, but a really pointless and unenjoyable angle to take as someone (presumably) trying to enjoy the show and its characters IMO. Don’t deprive yourself of some suspension of disbelief!

I wouldn't call that a children's train store...Some of those Lionel's are $100's of dollars and are really meant for adult collectors even though children can play with them too.
That's mighty expensive to drive up Paulie's ass
The one Bobby wanted to buy is about 1000 bucks for the set now. They make new one with bluetooth for 5oo to 600 or so. Looks like a fun hobby though.
That last set he was buying was for $5K!
@@Evan-lr8nq It is a very fun hobby, but friggin expensive and takes up lots of space if you want to have a proper setup.
@@Gnarfendorf Im sure its fun. Just the history behind the models would be cool af.
After hearing Schirripa on Talking Sopranos podcast, Bobby's execution in Blue Comet is much more enjoyable to watch.
What does he say on the podcast that pisses people off? I've never listen to it.
@@penquinl5210nothing. People don’t like him because he’s loud and boisterous.
He's cool, just a regular East Coast guys. Suburban internet addicts don't relate.

the most tragic story in sopranos is poor bobby kids both parents mom passes away Janice comes in picture bobby passes they are stuck with jan those poor kids
yea, it's not enough their mother passes, but they had to be left with Janice at the end??
That's just too cruel
That has to be the darkest unspoken about part of the show.
They weren't too far off sixteen so could have escaped soon enough. But then again, even a year under the authority of that witch would drive the strongest of us to despair.
@@Hriskataaa 100 % i always felt bad for bobbys kids and think about it with out bobby around to get in middle of jan and kids poor lil bobby
@@goodyeoman4534 the son was close to 16 the daughter was still only 13 or 14 and remember what jan said about bobby's daughter was out of her mind if she thought she was getting out of that house and tony even said if that was a joke it even went over my head
"His belly arrives in the room 3 minutes before he does"
Tony never badmouths Bobby to Janice as boyfriend/husband unlike he did with both Richie and Ralphie. After the fight Tony orders him to make the hit, which is is similar what he did with Chris and the cop. Tony definitely wants to know some crime Bobby has committed if he is going to promote him. So the hit is part punishment, part promotion.
That IS the best Steve schirripa story that they had him wear a fat suit and then halfway through decided he didn’t need the suit anymore. 😂😂😂
before and waay before
Worst Santa ever 😂
You should analyze Silvio next. Even though he has constant and consistent screen time, he's arguably the most mysterious character in the show.
Agreed, we don’t really know much about his life
I thought he already did Silvio
40 mins in line for stool softener. Not a peep

@@maplebear6527 lol damn i had no idea. Hadn't seen that episode in awhile.
Bobby was way overweight earlier in the series but I only think he was a laughing stock because of Tony constantly deriding him. None of the other mobsters insulted him that I remember. It was mostly because of his weight and because he was assigned to Junior. He was never really given any responsibility to handle in the earlier seasons other than looking after Junior. And his father was a well liked and respected hitman. Probably how Bobby became inducted without having to participate in a hit since they knew his background and old man were solid.
I do remember the NYC guys making a comment about him at the end when they say he was #3 in Tony's organization but that was it.
How embarrassing was that? After everything Baccala was number 3 😢
Bobby INHERITED Junior! I don't think you have reason to talk about him this way! He always liked Tony!
It’s like a weight loss ad-before and WAY before
Well, on "Any Given Sunday" Bobby "had the makings of a varsity athlete" ask Tony!
"This Guy ever Stop Breakin Balls"
@jasontodd2647 Damnit u beat me to it.
Hehehe, ya hear what I said Tone?
Yea,.. it's fun to post "Quotes", and this n that. (Which I normally do). But I have to say: @CineRanter - Your insight is IMPECCABLE!!! This is probably YOUR BEST critically insightful Soprano video to date. (Guaranteed TOP 3)! Well done Bro!
Thank you!
@@CineRanter No,.. thank you Brother. "Bobby beat Tony's ass. And Tony took Bobby's soul". Is BY FAR the most dead-on, insightful, coldest, and beyond true observation I have ever heard!
He never has the makings of a varsity toy train conductor
Three things about this great video
1 - The actor stopped wearing the fat suit because his character lost weight.
2 - You mentioned how Bobby was standing up to people - My favorite was when he was ready to fight Paulie after Paulie's negligence in Season 6-Ep 9; The Ride. This showed me how much more confident he was since Paulie's position made him untouchable and at that point, I would have liked someone to flatten Paulie.
3 - Great point that I completely missed - Tony was probably jealous of Bobby because in a lot of ways he was closer with Junior and treated nicer than Tony was. Don't know how I could have missed that symbolism.
Yeah, but when the paramedics found him, he had the toy train still in Vito's mouth... (You steal all the good jokes with your references in the videos)
people see Christopher being replaced by Bobby as an embarrassment for Christopher and he was a f^%$ up to be sure but it's also a signal about the failure of Tony and his regime in the family, he loved Christopher's dad and Christopher was the closest guy to him by FAR, so them falling apart is kind of the doom of Tony, that he has to replace him with Bobby and he obviously didn't like Bobby, but with Christopher he could actually hang out with him, and Tony himself directly caused this to a degree, Christopher was no boss or even Capo material but he still was decent enough as a soldier but Tony was trying to push him higher where he didn't belong
Tony liked Bobby a lot. He realized he was reliable and Tony knew how hard Junior and Janice were to deal with, and Bobby shouldered the load there for him.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx he liked bobby as a mafioso and a reliable guy, not as a person, they never had a real personal connection, with Christopher it was different, they were close
Chris was capo material, he was an earner, and stone cold killer Without the drugs he is boss material.
"I'm in awe of him"
I think you mean "awr"
16:07… this is incorrect… At Livia’s wake… Bobby hugs Tony and tells him… “my dad’s very ill too”… it wasn’t awkward at all.. Tony seems to appreciate the comment and thanks Bobby for coming… Bobby didn’t say his dad was too “old”.
I can smell the white castles through the screen.
now do a video on the Kendrick Drake beef, whatever happened there

crazy how some sopranos fans think Bobby was just a relatively good guy, just a birthday boy
In comparison to other characters in that show Bobby was easily one of the most likeable. His father was literally known as “The Terminator” meanwhile Bobby never hurt a fly and was content with playing with model trains. He didn’t catch his first body until Season 6 cuz he beat the shit outta Tony.
Do you know what relatively means
At livia's funeral, I think Bobby tells Tony that his father is ill, not old.
Would you ever consider reviewing the British gangster film The long Good Friday ?
Add Get Carter to that!
I thought at Livia's wake Bobby said "my father's very ill too"
You are correct, it's this video that got that wrong. He seems to get a lot wrong about this show.

This video ran about 33 minutes longer than Bobby could’ve ran. Cheers.
Bobby after an off color remark about Janice : You Sopranos, you go too far!
Also Bobby after an even sicker comment was made about Chris's newborn daughter: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Bobby claims to be a marksman, to that rapper he met. True to his word, Bobby took aim with a handgun and got the guy right in the cheek.
Not an easy task. You'd have to take a lot of practice in a gun range, then convert those skills out in the field. With all the distractions and obstacles, Bobby got his shot on target, then stealthily got away. With his girth, ya gotta hand it to the guy. A mob hitman with street cred.
It was hunting his whole life. Bobby mentions he started using exclusively a bow and arrow to hunt deer cause guns made it too easy.
Quality video as ever!!
I thought he said "My father is very ILL too"
?
Great analysis!
your rhetoric is excellent, as are your editing skills. thank you for quality content every time you post. /tips hat
Another great video Cineranter mate, the next character analysis you should do is Paulie Gualtieri
The drive by insults killed me lmao
19:45.. Richie Aprile says to Chrissy… “you wanna raise your hands you give her your last name… then… it’s none of my fucking business.. until then.. keep your hands in your pockets”
One of the most endearing aspects of Bobby's character was that he really loved Uncle Jun.
This was such a comprehensive, deep-dive-look at a very interesting character. It was informative, funny, and just damn entertaining. Honestly, one of you best videos in my opinion CineRanter. Your look at Silvio was equally as amazing as well! You'll obviously be doing a video on Paulie Gualtieri, but I would also like to see a video on Patsy Parisi soon. Thanks again CineRanter!
Bobby is one of my favorite characters on the show. The earlier seasons he would get picked on but got more responsibility as the series went on even stood up for himself against Paulie and Tony when he beat him in the fight
Bobby didn’t run the failed hit on Phil, Paulie did.
I loved Bobby like a brother in law
Bobby leans against the car cuz he's supposed to be shown half out of gas from the walk over to the car... setting up the joke.
You're making a video. I always wondered how it's done....
Im so happy, haven't seen a video from my favorite youtuber for a while.
You got this one spot on my man….that Arabic word “Ghayrah” is the perfect word to use for that situation and you’re right and as an Arabic speaker I can tell you it doesn’t really translate to English. Another great character analysis, keep em coming ….. You are the “Sir Walter Raleigh” of Sopranos content creators on YT !
It's funny how in real life, Steve Schirripa is a bit of that goofy, cartoony Italian type that's often depicted in the show, whereas Bobby's a little bit more of the odd one out, more timid, shy, and responsible than the rest of the crew.
Good video thanks!
Appreciate the longer video. People like learning about quality shows. Despite that horrible intro you have decent commentary.
Great Video
In Bobby’s defense he was a pretty reliable dude, he had no drug problems and a long history of being loyal to his wife.
Meaning to say most of the crew were liabilities on a good day but Bobby was almost always a safe bet.
Sometimes being a safe bet can make you the most valuable guy in the room.
Also as far as we know Bobby really did fall in love with Janice.
Sometimes we envy the simple, meek, and meagre
This was a great analysis.. thank you!
This was great and thanks for not ruining it with annoying music
Steve Schirripa was terribly annoying in “Talking Sopranos.” Every single time that Michael Imperioli tried to make serious comments, or tried to consider the deeper meanings of the show, Schirripa would cut him off and make a ridiculous joke or claim that he shouldn’t take the show so seriously.
I only managed half a podcast of that one. Too much waffle and advertising.
Bobby showed his ability in the union dispute when he went to the bar and spoke to the union dude. Damn you absolutely killed him with the decade special😂😂😂😂
Thats not a children's train store. Thoe things cost real money. No kid can pay for it themselves. That is a totally adult hobby.
awesome analysis. "you probably don't hear it when it happens"......just like he didn't hear his life being destroyed by Janice until it was too late
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 nice and perfect as always
I like how the show humanizes characters and for a moment you start pitying them but then the go and do something evil that makes you hate them. There are no anti heroes heroes here just villains
Bobby fighting Tony and pretty much winning made me so happy. Bobby was such a stand up guy. Him being shot hurt my soul.
Great analysis as always
Am I crazy or is this your best video yet?
excellent analysis!
Bobby would have been a boss like Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas. The strong and fat silent type.
To the victor belong the shineboxes.
Great episode!
Tony was probably jealous of how much junior cared about Bobby since that seems like his real father figure in the flashbacks
A good character analysis.
Not sure if it fits your new series but I think one of AJ might be worthwhile.
Bobby is my favorite character, and I always thought he wasn’t the “teddy bear” Bobby was subtly a bad ass, & your video of Bobby not Being a good guy…. I 100% agree with this, & your last video
When Bobby hugs Tony at his mother’s funeral, I think he said, his father is very ill, not old
A lot of people don't realize Bobby ends up the under boss when he was killed
You could tell that bobby got over his first killing and enjoying every minute of the higher ranks in the end
idea for video: something i think goes unexplored is that chris is surprisingly effective at being intimidating when he snaps. there are several occasions where he does some legitimately badass stuff. like snatching the fork and threatening Arties eye, grabbing the paint brush shoving it in the one guys nose. i know there are a few more where he actually handles himself in a menacing way. just kind of a fun little detail i keep catching on rewatches. he has some genuine instinct when he’s not high
Cineranter AGAIN WITH THE SCENARIOS
it’s stilll crazy to me that tracy was only around for a single episode, could’ve sworn it was like 2 or 3
“You Sopranos!! You go too far”
Yes Bobby is a very beloved character for the obvious reasons, but that fist fight between him and “Tone” was the best fight on the show by far!
I think carmine said " there's no stigma on it these days" however with his city accent it's sounds like " there's no stigMAR on it these days"
Have you watched Shogun yet? Excellent show.
Have you ever watched Glengarry glen ross i know that movie doesn't fit in your genre but i just watched it and i cant help but feel like im missing the main point just wondering cause i really like your analysis videos
It’s terrible when they go young like that……
Great video! Love Bacala!
I know it's season 1 but would Tony have actually taken him out publicly early on with him being close to his dad the Terminator? I mean that story line came way later but still.
Great video and very valid points on Bobby’s character.
Bobby could have got with Jo Jo Palmice, but we all know... that wouldn't have suited him at all
Just fantastic! Along with the Vito link... perfect - this is better than Fallout! Volvo...
I'd love to see a longer video about chivalry toward women in the Sopranos
