- The hallmark of the Tamil Nadu model is the human capital and a harmonious society, said Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thiaga Rajan at the TNIE ThinkEdu Conclave, on the topic ‘The Tamil Nadu Model: Lessons for India’, chaired by author and analyst Shankkar Aiyar. Commenting on the ‘Revdi culture debate,’ he said that the first question that comes up is who decides what is populist. “Some of the freebies will be accretive. Some will have mixed outcomes - they will add some value and also create inflation/some other problems. So these things need to be thought of carefully,” he said.

So proud to be from TN and Chennai. The depth of understanding and decision-making is phenomenal. I was completely enamored by the weighted average analysis. I have thoroughly enjoyed PTR's videos and this is one of his best. If only PTR can be the finance minister of the country, I am positive we will achieve greater heights. Back in those days the Union govt used to oppose mid day meals. Even one of the best Union Finance minister once said why you guys are running hotels in Schools. But today the mid day meal scheme has given tremendous results in literacy. And Rajaji has no role in Mid day meal scheme and he closed 6000 schools which was then reopened by Kamarajar.

This gentleman is terribly wrong. It was NOT Rajaji. Rajaji did the exact opposite. Instead of persuading kids to come to school he was the one who closed down 10000 primary schools for want of minimum strength.
It was Justice Jarty in 1920s ( later as Dravida Kazhagam - a social organisation) which launched the free meals scheme for students & reservation in college- a first in india.
Kamaraj reintroduced the scheme with some improvements in 50s. Not only he reopened all the 10000 schools closed by Rajaji, additionally he also opened 10000 new schools.
Thereafter successive dravidian parties strengthened the free meals scheme so as to make it the best in india. This is the flagship & a forerunner welfare program in T.N. for many which were to come later.
All pro people welfare programmers are the backbone & foundation of T.N's stupendous economic growth & stellar performance under all social parameters. T. N is numero uno in india.

He is not an asset but a dummy installed by the rowdy CM to mislead the people of TN. Having resided in the US, PTR has some command over the English language but it certainly is not a reflection of his grip over the economy. In one of the interviews, he says India is in competition with Vietnam to offer opportunities for manufacturers shifting base out of China, and in the same interview, he says the road infrastructure development in UP is of no significance to bear an immediate result. Can anyone ask this fool why a manufacturer would think about setting up a facility in India if there is no infrastructure for the same?

Mr. Aiyar tried to attach the midday meal programme to thiru Rajaji. Mr. Ptr corrected it and told the fact that justice party actually done it . Once again he is hesitating to call the model as dravidian model

The way that other states population is looking up to PTR's schooling of the Dravidian model, is something TN was enjoying in reality for the last 80 years. Human development is based on 1. Health,2,Education,3,Economic std of living. Now without money,most of the commons can't get any of these three items.
I have seen a video few days back about the business case associated with the freebie culture in TN. I understand the intent now. For eg. Free Laptops have meant that students were able to access knowledge like any other, TV has created awareness, mid day meals have ensured attendance at schools. Great ! There is huge amount money being spent here and the TN govt is paying huge amounts of interest to invest in human development. Other than risk avoidance is there a return of investment calculation due to these measures e.g if a million laptops were distributed then how many of the million ended up becoming tax payers or have started sending back money to India as they settled abroad ?

Human Development (HD) is key to a nation's growth. BJP doesn't care about HD, what's the point in growing the GDP of Gujarat when its HD is poor. Dravidian model put more care on people's welfare than northern states.

What a twist of history ! Rajaji never implemented free food scheme. The justice party first introduced the scheme in the schools of Chennai corporation. Then Great Kamarajar introduced Mid-day meals scheme in all schools of Tamil Nadu. Then it was renamed as "Sathu unavu" (Nutritious food) by MGR. Then Kalaignar Kurunanidhi strengthened the scheme. Becuse of the various welfare schemes introduced by the Dravidian parties, the middle class population of the state has gone up. Excluding Kerala, the percentage of middle class population is very high in Tamil Nadu compared to other parts of India
