Simply goes to show that F1 "Competition" is no longer a competition (like all other sports where money flows freely).
There will always be teams willing to accept money and a mediocre driver to be able to compete.
Vettel is a prime example of a driver who is at the end of his career but who accepted large sums of money to be Stroll's team mate. Not very sportsmanlike.

Plain fact is no one can get into the upper levels of Motorsport without money or the correct connections is as always been that way.
even the Gentlemen races of the 30's and 30's had to have money or wealthy Patrons, willing to give them cars or financial support.
F1 is full or Drivers that paid their way into drivers or had their drives paid for at various points in its History.
The Guy must have some talent after all he had to move through the lower tiers of open wheel racing to get a seat in F1.
But how many have then lacked the talent to take it up that extra gear to challenge for the biggest prize in Motorsport.
So many highly rated lower tear Open Wheel Champions have made it to F1 then never managed to progress before finally quitting F1 and finding their feet in things like WEC or Sports cars or Touring Cars racing.
I think this is all down to his Father chasing a dream that will not happen after so long in F1 one can only imagine How Lance feels with his Fathers lofty targets for his son.
I doubt anyone in the teams dares to tell Mr Stroll that his Dream is never going to happen and maybe for the team to progress they need to bring in two drivers that can improve the teams development and bring in more investment.
His son can continue racing in a lower Motorsports Championship, He can even buy a team for him, but for the sake of Aston Martin things need to be changed.

The funniest thing is that Lawrence Stroll said within 5 years he wants the team to be challenging for titles, how does he expect to do that with Lance sandbagging the team who is routinely getting outpaced by every team mate, still makes rookie mistakes and clearly doesn't learn from said mistakes.

Lance Stroll is the epitome of a rich, spoiled kid with privilege who was given his opportunity by a billionaire father.
He has proven he doesn't belong in F1 based on his past performance. He would've been dumped by now if he was driving
with any other car. It makes him look bad as well as his father and Alfa Romeo. Too bad his father doesn't get it.

It shows that it always needs talent to be at the top runners. I mean his father even own a freakin racetrack. Michael Schumacher's father Rolf only owned a karting track. But by beginning early he perfected the talent he was born with. With Lance, there's just not the talent required for the biggest shot, F1. That doesn't mean he wouldn't suceed in tourers or Le Mans for example. He's still much faster than 99% of the world population like other not so successful F1 drivers. But its not enough for F1

Stroll totally dominated the 2016 F3 championship and has been phenomenal in the wet, being the youngest person to win an F1 pole under those conditions. That said, he is certainly not keeping pace with Alonso and he does crash a lot.
As far as money is concerned, look around. There have only been a tiny handful of F1 drivers who have not come from at least wealthy families. It is like criticizing polo players for being so rich.
And as far as being the worst is concerned, he is vastly better than Mazepin was.

We’ve had worse in F1 like Mazepin but Lance at his skill level has had far too many years that typically get a driver one year, maybe two max in F1. The crash into Ricciardo really put a bulls eye on him, deservedly so, after flying under the radar for so long. I expect Tsunoda takes his seat due to Honda, likely a condition of getting Honda motors.

From what I see of Lance Stroll he seems quite capable. He's not last in every race is he? Yes, he's had a leg up from his rich father, I'd do the same for my son in the same position. Would you ? I see no harm in indulging the family in something really interesting, exciting, and at the peak of engineering and driving skill. Is it just jealousy, people who don't see the overall picture of a rich man who loves his family and encourages his son to succeed at the highest level in the world?

  • @bobdevreeze4741

I have seen this in amateur hockey. A father driving his son to play a sport he was unable to play regardless of the wishes of the child. Lance doesn't want to be there.. Its easy to read... Lawrence is willing and able to spend his fortune pushing his son. Lance said at one point he would rather play tennis. I say let him. Before his fathers dream turns into a nightmare of the worst kind.

The continued and baffling idea that F1 participation is based on merit and somehow is usually not nepotistic is a fascinating example of fan delusion.
Do you people even watch F1?
It's ALWAYS been a league for rich, connected drivers. It's never been a meritocratic organization...and with the leadership it has, it never will be.
Max Verstappen is the son of a former F1 driver.
Nico Rosberg is the son of a former F1 driver.
Jensen Button is the son of a professional rally cross driver.
Only Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel of the most recent champions aren't children of professional racing drivers...and both came from upper middle-class families.
