- Bydgoszcz is not a city on the usual tourist circuit of Poland, which adds to its surprising charms. You feel like you've found the 'real' Poland and it's thoroughly lovely. Bydgoszcz has a long and interesting history, beautiful architecture, a focus on arts and culture, and a growing food scene. It's also the home of the Museum of Soap and History of Dirt where you can get the down and dirty on hygiene through the ages and try making your own soap. It's also where you find the original Cukierna Sowa, a popular chain across Poland full of delicious chocolates and sweet treats. Don't miss trying some local wine, taking a river cruise, and chilling out at Mill Island near the Old Town.

It's shame that no one guide you to visit "Myślęcinek" it's the biggest urban Park in Poland and one of the biggest in the Europe. Grettings from Bydgoszcz :)

This city is fabulous!! So many beautiful buildings, the waterway and of course the FOOD! I love the romantic story of the two statues and the one celebrating the brilliant
man who helped to break the enigma code. Won't be long till travellers are making Bydgoszcz a destination!! So much to see and do. Love following your

Thank you! We had a really fun time visiting Bydgoszcz and soaking up the laid back vibes. I loved seeing the river boat - so cool that we were able to visit someone's home and see how it is to live like that! Tempting :) The connection to the enigma code was also unexpected and amazing!

A museum you need to visit next time you're in Bydgoszcz is the white garner (it's near the man crossing a river statue) where's an exihibit showing the history of Bydgoszcz, it's really worth checking out (and you can even dress up as historical characters there). On the Mill Island there are 2 amazing muzeums: Modern Art Gallery (with great works by polish artists) and Mennica, where you can see how old polish money looked like! Another very interesting museum is Exploseum, which is located in the outskirts of Bydgoszcz, in old Natzis weapon factory and even has a themed escape room! And lastly, not a museum, but a local brewery in Osowa Góra (which is literally called Osowa Gora Brewery), where many super tasty beers are manufactured (and they also supply a couple of hotels in our voivodeship). Oh and I just remembered that in a little alley between Gdańska Street and Kazimierz Wielki Park (where the foutain you showed is located) there are sold the best ice cream in Bydgoszcz (the ice cream parlor is called Prima). Moreover nearby, where starts Pomorska street from Gdanska street there's a shop with pączki (similar to donuts) where yummy sweet and savoury pączki are sold. I personally love the spinach ones! Hope you'll visit my hometown again soon!
WOW! Bydgoszcz is a beautiful city! Yet another pretty place in Poland. So modern.....Yet a place reserved everywhere for things from a more esoteric and.....sadly.......bygone era.
I'm happy to see so much sculpture outdoors......Available to everyone......And a reminder to the accomplishment and whimsy of days gone before.
I love the vibe that the city exudes! It seems to be the same all over Poland. What a truly lovely country! Well done....And THANK YOU..... people of Poland!
There's a lot of history in this city and, like the rest of Poland, it's endured a lot. Such a nice laid-back vibe here now and super friendly people. We loved the sunny river cruise and Mill Island especially :)

Your blogs are just perfect. Jammed full of information superbly presented and tons of links too. Thank you for all the effort you put in. This one is very timely because I was researching this place a month ago and there just isn't another decent blog about the place. Until yours! I had pretty much made up my mind to go anyway as I had found a really cosy Airbnb so even if the town was dull, I could have a restful week and read in cafes and drink coffee, eat cake etc. So it's good to see that it's a really nice place. We are off to Warsaw first in January. My second visit to that city and allison's first visit to Poland! We are also going to vienna and Budapest in may so I've been binge watching your blogs on those too! Very useful especially for the baths. I have made a note to pack flip flops and a bathing hat!

Another city to add to my growing list of places to visit! Bydgoszcz looks like such a charming and beautiful place with so much to offer residents and travellers. The architecture is just stunning! I like that it's not on the usual tourist circuit which can be overcrowded and inflated. Marc, you seem to be an expert on how to pronounce these Polish words! For the record, I'd take a river cruise any day, especially with the gorgeous food and wine!

It's a real shame, but Bydgoszcz (at least from what I've experenced) is pretty underestimated, especially becouse of close location of much more touristic city of Toruń (e.g. when I was in Tricity, my friends knew where Toruń is but not where's Bydgoszcz 🤷♀️ which is like 1 hour by car from Toruń). And in last years Bydgoszcz developped so much, tenement houses get renewed, new museums appeared and city is just getting more and more beautiful!
Был в Быдгоще в этом году.Очень замечательный город, в часе езды автобуса находится Торунь. В трёх часах поездом - Познань. Город не избалован туристами поэтому качество гостиниц высочайшее. Четыре дня в конце апреля прожили в нотеле Шопен за 30 евро в сутки, уровень превосходит другие города Польши. Встроенный холодильник - бар, в ванной комнате куча - более 30 маленьких бутылочек с ароматами и всякая всячина в которой разберутся только женщины. Отель супер современный, приветливый персонал, правда русский не знают, но польско английский очень даже подходит в общении.

Guys, you don’t even know how happy, and surprised actually, you made me. Bydgoszcz is my hometown, grew up in Szwederowo but since 2004 I’m living in London. I was always regretting that not many tourists are visiting my hometown, maybe now it’s gonna change! You should see Forest Park of Culture and Rest- Myslecinek and as well you might enjoy walk in Valley of Five Ponds. Och you made me miss my Bydgoszcz more right now....

haha the river cruise was really fun and the private house boat was cool to see. Usually they're so narrow and this one felt really wide and spacious. So calm down on the water :)

That's so cool you call it Mill Island! That was one of our favourite parts of this city. Really nice place to chill (sounds the same as your farm!). The soap was fun to make - I put lavender in mine and Marc chose coffee beans :)

I walk the streets every day, yet seeing them from your perspective is something new. I hope you come again - you must visit Myślęcinek, the biggest forest park in Poland. By the way - did you know that the name "Bydgoszcz" actually translates as "Be my guest"?

@@EileenAldis Hey Eileen! ... it was interesting to find out about the houseboats, they look really cool, the museum of dirt was definitely a surprise, but the overall vibes of the city seem to be just pleasant: the market place, the buildings- everything looks so pretty and gorgeous. I have never been to Bydgoszcz myself, but I travelled Poland in my younger years. To me personally one of the finest experiences was getting to know the locals and making friends there! I know that Poles seem a little bit harsh at first glance, but theyre crazy friendly, once you engage with them! Their hospitality is legendary and nothing beats partying with Poles! 🤠💃🎈🎆 And bigos so yummy! Take care! By the way: my wife (who is a polish native speaker) is saying that your Polish pronunciation is PERFECT!! You might be a language genius!
