I had an incredible time thrifting in Tokyo, Japan! I found a local gem that is only open one day a week as well as some highly curated, amazing vintage spots! Come thrift with me and find out what I took home with me! I'll be posting more Tokyo content on my second channel in the upcoming weeks if you'd like to check it out! Thanks so much for watching!!
Lori, I gave a 3 yr old girl a stuffed dog and I told her about Lumpy. Her mom says she named it and all her other dogs Lumpy 🥰
It’s nice that Jay is so supportive
Thank you! I feel so lucky! He's a trooper!
The purple Kimono is gorgeous! The dogs at the Cafe were so cute. I hope they have families.
Hey Lori! Loved your video. I minored in Japanese and spent 3 months there in the late 80s...Just wanted to let you know your free gifts from salvation army are called furoshiki...a traditional way to wrap stuff up and carry it around 😂
That is so funny! I had no idea! Thank you for sharing! What a great experience that must have been for you!
@@LorisBostonFound Your video brought back memories 🥰
Hello from Australia. I think the pieces of fabric you were given are furoshki which are used for wrapping a variety of objects of many shapes. The jackets (haori) look to have been made using a technique called miura shibori in which thread is looped around a small piece of fabric to create many small dots before it is placed into dye.
Glad you had a good time in Japan. The fabrics you showed at the end are furoshiki, a square piece of fabric used to wrap up gifts. You can see how they are used by searching for the word furoshiki.
Thank Andrea! I'm going to look them up!
Loved watching this video. Love seeing other countries how they sell their stuff. Absolutely nice picks!
Thank you so much for sharing this unique international thrift haul! You are amazing ❤
Thank you so much for being here Christine! xoxo
I lived in Japan for 1-1/2 years back in the 80's. I loved the people and culture.
Hi Lori! Kimono are always full length ( they are usually made pretty long and folded under the obi to make it fit) and should always be worn crossed left to right. If its not full length and can be worn open, Its not a "traditional kimono". The short open jackets are haori. "Kimono" can also mean "clothes" but generally it refers to a long traditional kimono.
Thank you! I learn something new every day! 😊
We have a “Doggie/Coffee Shop” here in Santa Barbara, CA that you get to meet the dogs and if you connect with one you can adopt them 😊or just sit and get your doggie fix ❤🐶❤
That is so sweet! I like that concept even better than this cafe. I wondered who cares these pups at night! The idea that they could be adopted is wonderful!
We have a cat cafe in Vancouver, Canada but i dont think it's open very often because people keep adopting all the kitties.
@@Lemonade_Stand_ that’s the sweetest!!!
Such a lucky lady to be able to travel and thrift! You are blessed
My son has a vintage clothing business and there friends he's made that come here every few months from Japan to buy from him to sell back in Japan. Mostly Levi's & denim
That is so interesting!! I was fascinated by their shops and I barely scratched the surface!
I went to Harajuku in the early 2000s. It was wild... The young girls all carried suitcases with the clothes they left their house in so their parents wouldn't know they were dressing in lolita style.
OMG, the doggo cafe was the best!! And now I can say I went thrifting in Japan…if only virtually. Thanks for taking us along!! Hope you and Jay had the best time.
Omg that Ralph Lauren skirt is so beautiful 😍
Loved shopping with you! Thx for the destination!
I'm so happy you both made it back alright I love your Kimonos So beautiful I love you all 👋😘💕🙏🌷🦋
ur voice is so calming :) its like ur my thrift mother lolll. also so glad you got to japan! my favorite place on earth ugh. glad you got kimonos I would come back with a full suitcase
That poor cavalier King Charles that could not get chicken. That was too sad!!!
It was so cool to see the thrifting in Japan. You and Jay are so cute together.
I have 3 kimono - I took one to San Francisco a few years ago and styled
it with a corset top and black crepe pants.
Japanese love vintage American clothing. I lived near Tokyo at Yokota Air Base for 3 1/2 years. Great gifts are rice wallets. Beautiful designs and they come in paper outer boxes ready for gift giving. Such a great place to visit. Enjoy.
Is wearing a kimono as a non native disrespectful? What a beautiful place what fun finds! Thanks for taking us along. I find taking a sleep aid on foreign trips always helps me. Jet lag is no fun!
Good thing there are no dog cafes like that near me in the US, because I would never leave! :)
That red kimono with crochet is called Haori I believe. It's kinda jacket for a kimono. Also those lettering on fabrics say they are special souvenirs/ novelty from 21st Japan Tourism Photo Exhibition by Japan Transportation Culture Association. And I believe they are Furoshiki which is for wrapping your item for currying or wrapping a gift. I'm not 100%sure since I didn't see the shape. But if it's square, it could be a Furoshiki
Lori how fun to go to Tokyo! I would love thrifting there! I want to check out the handbag second hand market!🥰
The fabric I think is for wrapping the bento box.
My winter whites (hams) love chicken too.
The red kimono is stunning!! Thank you so much for taking us a long. It’s so fun to watch you and to hear your pearls of wisdom ❤
Gorgeous RL skirt!!!
I love you on video. The lady that you had in your video that you went to her estate sale I will I’m in love with her closet and her attic. Oh my goodness bet in the handbag shoes I wish I could’ve been there and what sizes was her clothes was a plus size or was they just extra large but the Tokyo video I’m really here doing. I just had to stop watching it for a minute and tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
This is the video I have been waiting for! THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking us along on your adventures. Tokyo has been on my bucket list for a bit. After watching this I really need to make it happen. Fun stuff Lori.
I love the vending machines!!!
Thanks so much for sharing your Japan trip inside the shop. In the story behind Ohio was great I am from Ohio. Nice seeing Jay out shopping with you. My uncle brought of his nieces back Japanese kimonos when I was a little girl in the 70s
Room to bring stuff back is always such s struggle. When i visited Okinawa when my Navy brother and his family were stationed there, i brought back prints by a local artist and local pottery. This was 2010/11, long before i started thrifting. I now wish I'd visited the thrift stores. I hit the 1000 Yen store (their equivalent of Dollar Tree), and got food/candy goodies, and even some small mass produced dishes. And Uniqlo was frustrating because all their sizing is so small! I loved the drink machines everywhere, and you're right: it is a very clean culture. They are so artful with everything. A walk thru a grocery produce section was a visual feast just from how they displayed things. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to plan a trip to visit my Japanese friend in Kobe.
So fun!!
Japan is amazing in every way, especially the traditional culture and food. I lived there for a good portion of time. 😊 You did excellent in showcasing what thrifting is like there and scored some worthwhile treasures in the process!
How fun!
This was so neat to see… I love Japanese fashion so thank you for sharing!! ❤️
I feel so happy when I watched this episode. I always wanted to go to Japan.
That was beautiful
Wow what a great trip. Thanks for posting. Love it!
What a wonderful video! Thank you for taking us thrifting in Japan!!!
The dog cafe is so freaking cute I can’t take it.
Great Video! I was there in May and I too went to that same shop upstairs with tons of luxury brands, so many and so expensive!!! I'm going back next month so I'm so thankful to you for showing us the Salvation Army Bazar, I can't wait to go there! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Thank you for sharing your unique experience. Thrifted a Blue Line Burberry sweater. In the 1980’s Burberry created A sub set called Blue line, especially for the large wealthy Japanese market. It is cut much smaller, but same great quality. Lumpy must be so happy to have you home, and must say I he streets sparkled.
Thanks again, Lori.
Thanks for sharing part of your Tokyo trip. Loved it
So jealous!! Thrifting in Japan is one of my favorite things to do there!!
We were stationed in Japan! We were in Atsugi, south of Tokyo! I loved it there! Yokohama is a good shopping area!
That’s awesome!!! Glad you had a great time! Japan is a beautiful place to visit❤️❤️❤️
One of my best friends lives in Tokyo and is an elementary school teacher. She's been to Canada twice, but I haven't been to Japan yet. Watching this video makes me wanna go so badly!!! BTW, that purple Kimono is downright dreamy!!! I'm definitely gonna have to forward the deets about that Sally Anne Saturday bazaar! What a gem of a place.
Fantastic 🎉🎉🎉 video.
I love Champion brand pretty affordable!!!!🎉and welcome back!!! Hola and hugs for beautiful Lumpy❤
I glad you had such a fun trip & what a wonderful opportunity for you & Jay! My friend/partner in our reselling journey is going to Japan with her husband in a week or so. I'm going to share your adventures as no doubt she is the "sourcer" in our partnership & would love to visit some of your gems you found there. Thanks so much & hope you aren't too jet lagged.
That was such a fun come thrift with me Lori ❤😊
List the Ralph Lauren skirt very high! I see men’s shirts in that line listed for$350+
It looks like you had a great time!! Oils like a blast!
It was so much fun!
I had the same experience but in Greece. second hand stores are very clean and organized American brand clothing prices were more expensive. When I got back from my vacation and went to a thrift store, nothing seemed so expensive anymore.😂
keep showing us videos of tokyo enjoy your vacation🏯
I bet Angie would look so cute in that RL skirt if it’s her vibe
Im so glad you had fun! I would love to visit Japan. Ive heard a lot of the thrift stores in Japan get their stuff from the US.
As a full time reseller who only does poshmark, I have an unreasonable pet peeve when people can’t differentiate thrift stores vs. vintage stores lol. They are not the same. Love to visit Japan one day but the more I see people “thrifting” there the more I’m grateful for the USA for being the Mecca for sourcing to flip clothes. To me, finding Issey miyake or Comme des garçons or yohji yamamoto for less than $10 in a small town thrift store here is true thrifting haha.
Awwweee Tiki Jay Is The Best!! And You Two Are The Cutest 💜💙💜💙 Love That You Got To Do So Much!!!! The Sites Were Incredible 🫶🏼
Lori I love that Ralph Lauren italy Skirt is beautiful . Have fun what an amazing trip.
The short kimono are hair, and the fabric pattern is shibori - I love them!
I enjoyed this so much! Thank you for sharing!
Happy Tuesday Beautiful Lori 🥰🌻 Such An Amazing Trip!!! So Happy For You!! I Had A Long Denim Jacket In The Late 80's 😆😆 That Was A Blast From The Past!! Great That You Had A Thrifting Buddy 🥰 The Thrift Store Was Priced For Tourists🤣🤣 But They Had Really Cool Items!!
Yes please, next time you travel back to Japan bring some item's to sell in Japan. It would be fun to see how you do.
The dog cafe killed me. Totally teared up, so cute!!! My youngest was watching TH-cam vloggers that go thrifting in Japan. Fascinating! I love the whole Champion/Ohio thing too.
I love the purple kimono. So cute!
I bet you are never going to leave Lumpy again 😢, lol. So are you going back? Love you
So cool to watch this and get tips for when I visit my son in Tokyo next year!
How fun going thrifting over there, but expensive!. Love that Ralph Lauren skirt!! And that red sweater!!!! May be interested in that!!! Glad you had a great trip!!
I love seeing the thrifting in Japan, thank you 🙏 ❤
Could you please take a Paris thrifting trip before next spring so you can let me know where to go before I go?😂😂😂❤❤❤
Do you watch Laura Caldwell with LeftCoastVintage? She has quite a few videos on her channel about thrifting hot spots in Paris. If you don’t watch her, you should check her out! I know she’s hosting another trip there again this next spring. 😊
@LindaKayHolevas yes! I want to go with her to Paris but I am already going in the Spring. I don't dare seriously ask my husband. He is too nice and rarely says no... so I try not to be greedy girl! I want to go with LT because she seems so much like me!
What a fun experience! Life is so short not to have cool adventures! I went to Vegas and Arizona in June for a week. My pups were all over me when I got home and after about 10 minutes of pets and kisses, my boy Apollo turned his back on me and pouted for an hour as if to say How Dare You Leave Me! 😂 They're so spoiled lol!
As far as not having many tourist, and cheaper hotel prices, you picked a good time to visit the desert. Summers are tough tho!
@dmreddragon6 it was definitely a little warm, but I absolutely loved Arizona! I stayed with friends who live close to Phoenix, so that was a bonus on not having to get a hotel room. Vegas was fun, but Arizona was beautiful and relaxing.
Thank you for sharing. I am scheduled to go to Japan in January (if budgets don’t get cut). It will be my first time. It was neat to see your experience. ❤
Love that you and Jay are so adventurous ❤
The kimonos are beautiful.
The fabric is used for gift wrapping too ❤❤❤❤
Holy Moly should set up a partnership and ship items to that thrift! You could make a ton sending them Disney alone 😊
My son literally just got back from there 3 weeks ago. I’m a reseller but he is not , but he thrifts. He had a blast! He also went to Universal Studios there too. P.s. i commented on one of your American Girl videos ( sorry it was so long) , but hope you’ll read it. Tfs
If you were going to Yokosuka I could tell you exactly where to go for vintage kimono for about $15-30 each. Also other cool things and another thrift with good prices!
Illinois Alum, I feel you, lol. Love that Ohio means Good Morning though.
You get it! Haha!!
Very cool!! Where did Lumpy go when you were gone?
He stayed most nights with my mom and we boarded him for two nights. I missed him so much!
That's funny what they price things at. I sell soooo much on ebay to Japan. I'm always so curious what they buy
So interesting, right? Do you see any pattern to what is sent to Japan from your store?
@@LorisBostonFound I'm not a high volume seller, but items that shipped to Japan for me were a y2k Express moto style black jacket, vintage RL, and a pair of vintage 80s heels.
Loved this, thanks for sharing!
On an entirely different subject, I am wondering if you saw a lot of unhoused people there? The way you described them cleaning their streets, it made me wonder. I am in Portland, Oregon & we have such a huge problem with them, walking down certain streets has become impossible. It looks like you had a great trip, thank you so much for sharing your adventures. ❤
Such a fun video. I loved Japan
My hubby wants that ny yankee one! Safe travels
Wow, what an amazing trip. Me and my mom are going next to May. Might have to hit up the Salvation Army. That purple kimono is amazing!!! Will be stocking Poshmark for this lol
The dog with the coat (no chicken) was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. My sister has two of them. Cute lap dogs. Neat little place. Hope you had a great time.
That dog was so sweet! I loved him/her. I hated that he couldn't get any chicken. They were sold out of the other food options. Your dog must be such a cutie!
Omg how fun 😍 can't wait to watch
Thank you! This trip was amazing! I hope you enjoy the video. xo
I went to the cat Cafe there at Harajuku! I did not see the puppy one or I would have gone there instead!!
I love calico critters!!
They are so cute! I love them too!
I live in Columbus, Ohio. Im a little surprised about OSU in the thrift there. We do get a lot of Japanese Honda people here though
Great shop
It looks like the fabric matches the kimonos you bought, maybe they're sashes?
The red jacket says 'oshare haori'. Oshare means stylish, and haori is a type of Japanese jacket designed to be worn over a kimono. Can't read the character before the 100%.
Thank you for sharing! I love that so many people in the comments are sharing their tips and knowledge about the Japanese culture and language. xo
Such a fun video! That faherty shirt is so cool, I would’ve never guessed that brand would be in Japan but I guess you never know! I can’t wait to see your experience at the pen stores!
It makes me so happy that you want to watch my pen videos Keegan! You're the best! The stationery shopping was next level! And, yes...I was surprised to see Faherty too! You just never know!
You need to keep a kimono!
Maybe the purple one...they are really special!
Gorgeous ❤
Would a hulken have been useful there?
