JAQUET DROZ CORPORATE MOVIE

  • The story of Pierre Jaquet Droz and his sons is one of the most moving in the history of Horology. Born in 1721, Pierre Jaquet Droz, master of time in the Age of Enlightenment -- mechanical genius, avant-garde creator of jewellery watchmaking and composer of poetry and dreams -- is one of the most fascinating figures of the period.
After a few years' absence from the world of watchmaking, and an intermediate period marked by the presence of foreign shareholders, the brand was acquired in 2000 by the Swatch Group. It returned to its town of origin, La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Clorox Bleach I believe you have it backwards. There is MORE automation than people realize. If you really want to, you can buy automated vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers.
Mail is sorted, chain is manufactured, cars and microcircuits are assembled automatically these days. It wasn’t very long ago that we needed an operator to run an elevator - now, you just tell it where you want to go and it automatically closes the door, takes you up or down, and then opens the door again. One man used to have to work very hard to manage a 40 acre farm. Modern machinery automates so much of that labor now that that the average farm in the us is 15 times larger and produces 100 times as much product. Laboratories have automated systems which precisely measure, mix, and dispense chemicals over and over again, thousands of times a day. Airplanes are now routinely flown by autopilot. The list where it is already happening just goes on and on.
And more is already in the works. I expect to see the day when long haul truck driving is done entirely by machine. Amazon and FedEx already have automated warehouse-to-door deliver systems in development. Self driving cars are just a generation away. Automation is quickly becoming ubiquitous.

Arguably the pinnacle of cultural endeavour thus far in human history. The application of such refined skill to what begins as mere embellishment, just because. Science meeting art. And proof that both need equal funding for a civilisation to make progress.

My head still hurts from all the sumptuousness.
I am amazed when I see this kind of thing. I always think of the past as 24/7 days of hard labor to exist. Catching, killing, processing, eating, and doing it all over again every day.. boggles the mind.
In the modern era, supposedly that's all done for us now so we should theoretically have more leisure time. It should be *our* generation creating masterful works of art.
What we have instead is people working 2 and 3 jobs and exhausting themselves in the daily grind. No time for a home cooked meal, reading, enjoying a family gathering, learning a new instrument, painting, working on a hobby. When's the last time you made something with your hands??
Didn't necessarily intend to get political, but believers in Milton Friedman style economics is what got us to this point. Otherwise known as trickle down or voodoo economics.
It's killing us. And it's past time for change.
    In a word: VOTE.

The era was FAR more advanced in engineering, Natural Philosophy (later called "science") than the media portrays. @EnigmaDrath Yeah, you're right. There once was this religious nut named Isaac Newton. He dabbled in physics and math, but wrote 10 times more about religion than anything else. Another idiot of faith forgotten to history. Oh wait........

Religion was just the excuse. Envy, jealousy and the desire for power are always the real drive to do terrible things.

How come she has nails painted red? I didn’t think that was the look in the 18th century?? These automata are wonderful, but also slightly creepy, because they imitate life, although they aren’t alive. The HC Andersen story “The Nightingale” satirises the vogue for mechanical birdsong. The story about Marie Antoinette is rather ominous, and it’s sobering to think what happened to the owners of these luxurious objects when the French Revolution erupted.
