      It is 6 am over here, me thinking Darude is some sort of a van Gogh drawn to sandy colors. And Google spits out this trance track, recommending the crab rave at the same time. Why on earth do I have to try to understand all the things I read?

    I'm very attracted by the ascetics of this edition. I really believe they nailed it.
    Still, 3 things prevent me from pulling the trigger :
    -Visconti's reputation for bad QC regarding their nib. I don't know if they have corrected with this new series of nibs, I'd be curious to know.
    -The lack of ink window and impossibility to disassemble the piston like on Twisbi Vac series.
    -Their pricing is just I little too high, that place them beyond the price of other great challengers such as the Pelikan M1000, Montblanc 145's, Graf von Faber-Castell...

    Really nice comparison, I'm liking the new colours that they have.. although I would totally go for the the lava red one.. too many bad experiences with white pens and staining (also I would double dog dare you to use bay state blue with that white pen!). Think that I will stick with my HS Bronze Age though for now as it really ticks all the boxes for me, but I'm loving the fact that Visconti have their own in house nibs, I just hope that they are better than before.

    I've used some rather strong inks, and curious if staining has been an issue with any in this line in your experience. Great review as always, I plan to pick up the white ash version, but just a tad worried of staining.

  • @SwayvillDelgarian
    @SwayvillDelgarian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for the review. I see some skipping on the ends of the two "V" of Visconti and then also on the first fast writing, and then on the "wetness" test it looks dry, which is particularly disappointing for a Visconti.

  • @richarddelasota1812
    @richarddelasota1812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently got the “inferno” color with a fine nib. The fine nib on mine has a broader line than the broad tested at the end of the video. In addition, mine does not skip as the one in the video does. The ink flow is smooth but very wet. Finally, the body of the pen does show some slight staining from the ink. All in all, I like the way it writes, but there do seem to be some real inconsistencies between individual pens.

  • @viku5549

    Not a big fan of the magnet. Bought it, tried for a week, had ink leaks from the barrel where the metal is for the magnet, and have left the pen in a tight case when pulled with the cap, and then returned it. Had the inferno. It did look great.

    • @martinlebl631
      @martinlebl631 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hooksafe threads were great. I think that the magnets are downgrade as well. Magnet is not always a feature, and you can't be sure the cap stays on, although it likely will most of the time. Almost a dealbreaker for me. Probably would get one of the more classic models, or one of the recent ones with ink window.

  • @peoplewithpixels
    @peoplewithpixels 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The white one is also my favourite, but for me, not having the Crystal Dream edition transparent "Homo Sapiens" ring is a missed opportunity. It would've been great to be able to check the ink level this way.

  • @davidalangordon
    @davidalangordon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The original Homosapien is a great pen. The materials all work together. The other variants are imitations. Although the one with the slot ink window is tempting. I would have like to have seen ink on the colored material and how it cleans up. It also looks like the flow of the ink in this demo isn't the best. For$800 bucks it's a bit steep. Very nice review as always.

  • @MD-wk3gj
    @MD-wk3gj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I’m understanding this correctly there is drastically less lava than I thought was in the pen.
    I think the release of the original (darker) pen I expected a fair amount of lava but it looks to me the mix might be 95% resin and at most 5% lava.

    I find the skipping (which Dave didn’t seem to mention) very irritating. I’m having a similar problem with my Pilot Custom 823 Fine. I like the look of the Homo Sapiens and the material seems nice on the touch. After seeing that skipping I am very hesitant to buy a Visconti especially in the $700 price range!

    Hi there. I am looking to get one very soon. I'm wondering what's the nib size equivalent of the colour lava that is the same as a Sailor Pro Gear 21k medium.

  • @Hexsyn
    @Hexsyn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I wonder if the colored resins contain less basalt, given what you mentioned about the hook safe cap system. I kinda hope so because if that is all the more rock is in the normal homo sapiens, I feel a bit cheated

    3:47 I definetly agree with you. You have anticipated my schedule (lucky me I put my hands on the Lava Color White Ash two weeks ago), and on this aspect I told the same thing in my italian review that will be published next month. I'm grateful I'm not alone in this opinion, hopefully Visconti will introduce the clear band (maybe in smoke transparent material other then clear when the pen has ruthenium trims?), without having many other transparent window. The band should be enough to inspect the ink level without compromising the lines or the concept of the pen. I think you are the fastest reviewer in the fountain pen community regarding new pens. You have won also over an italian with Visconti LOL. You also did a very detailed and inspired review. Thank you. P.s. I also picked up the blizzard or Ash White. Compared to the others to me it's the best contrast between black and white.

      Unfortunately, mine is also very dry with horizontal lines not at all with verticals, creating an effect very similar to the one on the video. To be honest, I regret buying the pen and I am even considering returning it. I think the performance of the nib is rather poor for the amount it costs.

    • @pensplanners6460
      @pensplanners6460 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@6ta8hs I know a lot of people only are happy with their Homo Sapiens after they got a nibmeister to work on it. I agree with you it's not ideal for such an expensive pen, but it might be an option so you can continue enjoying it?

  • @6ta8hs
    @6ta8hs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I fell in love with the pen after seeing it online. Unfortunately, I fell out of love after buying that exact White Ash model. It is very dry, a little less than the one on the video, the clip is a little flimsy and the V around the band does not actually line up with the nib.

  • @jacobus57
    @jacobus57 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the clip coating chipped on the inferno model? The ink flow actually looks very poor, and it seems skippy. You are usually much more discerning in your reviews. I am surprised you gave these pens a pass, especially given the price point.

    The great thing about these pens is that they demonstrate what a gimmick the "basaltic lava" nonsense is. It strikes me as a "lava"/resin equivalent of "gold filled." They could hide it with the black models, but not with this. Along with the magnetic closure, this line strikes me as just another overpriced, overblown Visconte attempt to separate the credulous from their money.
