You have saved me! I am trying to learn this online, and everyday I wish I had a teacher in a school atmosphere. I finally understand how to do this from your short almost 10 minute video!!!! I feel so much better!!!!
Winner of a video, I've been looking for "how to become a certified coder medical" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Lukesey CPC Carnage - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy got amazing results with it.
I agree with the other comments on here, I've been searching for ACTUAL redacted coding examples with an ACTUAL Physician report to dissect! I am taking an AAPC course but haven't had any real examples yet so please do more of these, with out patient coding examples !!!!!!! I need practice so thank you!!!!
I'm in school for medical billing & coding at Penn Foster. I started Feb 14th, 2020 & will complete the program May/June 2021 and I can't wait to do my externship. Although I go through a ton of pain etc because I have sickle cell disease. I'm determined to do my best & stay motivated. Great video!
Hi, I'm currently looking into this program at Penn Foster. How was it for you? Would you recommend them? Was the externship part of the program or did you find it yourself?
I'm really interested in medical coding and I'm starting an HIT program in Fall 2020. Seeing you mention how it's actually fun and how you light up when you talk about it makes me more motivated to stay positive and do my best in school. Thanks for sharing! This is super confusing to me now but I know I can come here for help in the future. Super excited!
Hi my name is Chaelde and I’m a Medical Assistant who works in an Endocrinologist office and I love it. But very recently I have been wanting to spread my wings and extend my knowledge of medical biller and coder now I’m ready. I really appreciate your video and with you going into detail, my school did not even go into detail like this. I thank you, and I will continue watching your videos🙂.
Hi Kate , you are correct the placement of the generator approach is open and the leads approach is percutaneous . I can definitely see you as a coding instructor once you get real work coding experience and or moving up the coding ladder 🙂 Great Video
I'm going to be schooled in this career so it helps to know what to expect an see how everything is coded. I subscribed lol, know already I'm going to need these videos for guidance.
Hi Kate I have a question and having trouble locating the codes. A patient undergoes an excision of a lesion from the left thyroid (open approach), and an excision of a lesion from the upper gum tissue (open approach). The physician also inserts an anterior nasal packing into the left nostril to control nose bleeding (that is epistaxis). Assign the ICD-10 PCS procedure codes
Alanda Sylvester you would want to go to the index and look for excision-thyroid gland-left and it will give you the first 4 characters of the code. Then in the main section of the book find those first 3 characters found on the side margin of the pages. Look for the excision table and from there you can confirm the 4th character for thyroid-left and complete your code. Follow those same steps for the rest of those procedures since they all take place on separate body parts: in the index excision-gingiva(gums)-upper (there is a diagram at the beginning of the mouth/throat chapter), packing-nasal. Always remember with PCS to look for the procedure/root operation first in the index if you are unsure of the body system! Great question and hopefully this was helpful!

Hey Kate, If I only want to do outpatient coding, will I need to know and do PCS, Iam really leaning to outpatient which I know I will use CPT and ICD-10-CM
Have you possibly made an outline/guide in the style that you use that could be printed/downloaded for use on all operative reports? That would be super helpful, especially as a newer coder, to ensure that you're not missing anything!
@@divineatasa1232 I went to Penfoster. It helped me with online program and it was and still is affordable. If you are living where the school is located you could go in person and attent classes.
Hi there, when you started making your notes you said that you have four different codes. Did you know this before you started or did you get that information from just starting your highlighting?
Anna Zimmerman you can try googling “operative report” “surgery report” but I have yet to find a good resource outside of AHIMAs course material. When I find one I will definitely share it with all of you!
I really enjoyed your video, I have ordered a CCS study guide and have been practicing on surgeries and was wondering if you know of any other sources or sites that i can go to or use to practice more. Best regards, Sid.
The terminologies are so familiar coz I used to transcribed operative reports back then. I'm having nostalgia right now 😂. I'm considering medical coding now, is it a long process in terms of studying and the exam is it hard?
Hi I just came across your video I’m and by you explaining how to look for the codes I would do it like this this really helps me and I did not even start yet I’m about to look at all your videos now thanks

Hi Kate, your videos are very helpful and I wil like your assistant with my coding journey. I have just enrolled in a diploma program and I am still struggling to know how to code a pathology report or any other report as.the case apply. How can I chat you privately?
Michele Lynn not quite because the information gleaned from the op report is used to build a code in the PCS codebook, whereas in CPT you don’t need all of that information to choose a code.
Coding With Kate* if you don’t mind me asking, how long have you been doing billing and coding? I’m an “older” online student just starting out. We just entered our first week of practicode. This seems soooo hard. 😝
Krissy Hamilton I actually never got a coding job because the healthcare facilities in my area are only looking for coders with on-the-job experience (which I don’t have), but I got my CCA in feb 2018 and just started as a Trauma Registrar on Feb 18, 2019!
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU!!! You are the only one on youtube that actually shows the coding process! So super helpful, thank you for making this video!!!

I was trying to see if this is what I wanted to do. Thank you for showing me exactly what it takes. I hate it. Thank you. You saved my time and money.
HAHA
😂🤣
edit: nevermind.. I hate PCS too!! I thought this was a profee coding example.
I'm in online school for Coding and Billing and you explained it better than my professor. Thank you.

Also learning on my own, sometimes I feel like I'm in over my head lol We can do this! :)
Do i have to learn billing for insurance also or just coding?

I failed my Coding study op report test today. 😫
Do you know any good home billing and coding systems

Are the supplies also coded?
Ma'am,What is meant by ' the numbers looked good'?
I believe the duration and time intervals in a cardiac cycle is what is meant by the numbers looked good.
Would this work for CPT too?
Michele Lynn not quite because the information gleaned from the op report is used to build a code in the PCS codebook, whereas in CPT you don’t need all of that information to choose a code.
Do you have to know what any of that means? To actually code for it? Cuz it’s like I’m not a doctor or nurse like wat the hell
You will have to take a anatomy and physiology course to learn the parts of the body.
God bless YOU ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very useful
Love it!
