As a life long patriots fan, (also pre Bledsoe) our line is worse than hot garbage. He would get killed and hurt behind this line. Start brisset, shore up the line with our draft next year, because we still aren’t great. Be patient
The front office screwed up by not signing some O line in free agency. Could cause everything to slow down just because of that. Should have been priority #1.

We are seeing with Brandon Aiyuk that they are trying to bring talents in. If players don’t want to come here and teams don’t want to trade, there’s really nothing else we can do. So like I said, be patient. Hopefully it changes when other players see that Drake Maye can play

I hate the trend of rookie QBs getting thrown in as starters way too soon, based off a limited dataset (a couple of preseason games). Starting a QB too soon can ruin their career, with the Jets giving constant masterclasses year in and year out on how to ruin rookie QBs. Serious consideration needs to be given, especially since this year the patriots will likely suck, why ruin your QB over a crappy season anyways? Maye has struggled in practices before the pre-season and could use some more time to get used to the professional level. Mahomes sat out his first year and had the best statistical season in his career his first year as a starter. Its always better to start a QB way after they are ready then anytime too soon.
Not to mention the line isn't great. I'm not even a Pats fan and I think sitting him for a year makes way more sense.

QBs are almost never ruined, ones without talent maybe.
@DollyPass Mac Jones proved that with competent coaching, he would have e been solid. Then he spent two years being coached by a DC, and now he's a backup. If he had had the same situation as Mahomes (sat behind Smith, Reid as a coach) he'd probably be a top 10 QB right now.
A QBs success isn't just about talent. Coaching and circumstances also play a huge role. That's why it doesn't matter who the Jets draft because their organization is a dumpster fire.
@@ElderGamerX the second half of that season did not prove that. Once he was figured out he wasn't that good. Obviously the team made many mistakes once Daniels left. But pure talent does matter too.

Full disclosure, UNC alum, went to HS with his dad, but Drake is a dawg. Hyper competitive and a ridiculous athlete, if the Pats take their time with him they will win many playoff games with him.

As a pats fan, I’m very happy with what I saw but I hope he doesn’t play this year. At least not till the very end.
He still has stuff to improve, and this offense isn’t good enough to where you feel comfortable throwing him into the fire. The success rate of qbs who sit and watch for a season or more is significantly higher than qbs who get thrown into the fire.
I want him behind a sturdy o line and to have guys to throw to. Right now the pats probably will have a terrible o line like the years prior and likely won’t have a true #1 option receiver.
O line is my only issue. I don't see any other reason to wait, qbs don't need to sit. He's shown polish and poise already. The O line scares me so I'd be cautious just in case it is really, really bad. Let Brissett take the beating, no reason to risk the future. You don't get kids this talented at qb very often. He seems to have absolutely no attitude problem of any kind. I couldn't have asked for a better qb prospect. Almost as opposite from whiny, untalented Mac Jones as you could find.

And the stats will tell you that first round qbs who sit and develop for most of their rookie season if not all tend to hit at a significantly higher rate than first round qbs thrown into the fire.
He’s just not gonna have enough time in the pocket this year to be able to get past his first read most of the time. There’s no point in teaching this man how to throw screens and out of sacks like this pats team isn’t winning more than 5 games.

Maye was my favorite QB coming into the draft, just because of how he plays on time from the pocket. I think that transfers better to the NFL than some other traits. I'm a Bears fan, glad we got Williams he looks legit too and we have a decent line with weapons everywhere. But Maye was my favorite QB coming into the draft.

Judon is 32 now and they are attempting a rebuild. The truth is it`s over the Patriots had a good run but they`re back to being a bad team now going forward. It`s going to be a really bad couple of years resulting in coach / GM firing. So maybe they will be back in 4 or 5 years. Drake Maye has a lot of talent I just hope this staff doesn`t get him killed this year.
Because we have a good defense without a top pass rusher. Judon is getting old and has missed a lot of time with injury in multiple seasons. Pats don’t care about playoffs this season. We got a third round pick and need other offensive positions more than a top pass rusher nearing the end of his career. An extra third round pick is great to have just for trading up or down during the draft.
@@Mattaga The Pats had a good defense with Bill scheming it just like every year he`s been a coach. I don`t think people realize how much he makes talent overachieve. Judon is getting older and probably only has a couple of good years left so for a team that`s not playing for anything this year a 3rd round pick is pretty good.
@@helluvatime4562 well they are still rated a top 10 defense(without Judon) and that’s more about talent and depth chart. And for what’s it’s worth, Gronk and Edelman were gushing about Mayo when he became head coach. They said as far as the defensive coaches behind Bill, he was the best of them and played a bigger role than people realize.
They must be planning on getting Maye some legit tackles & WR1
I watched this kid ball out for NC and I know he has a rocky start this year but this game showed the NC Drake with improved footwork. Very excited to see what this kind can do for New England. They need someone good after the failed Mac Jones experiment.

Milton has talent, but he has already made some bad throws that could have been picked. You can tell he needs to learn a lot. Maye hasn't done anything stupid yet and that is a good sign. Much more polished than I think we were led to believe. I don't believe he's years away at all. Just be better if they can have a decent O line in front of him.
Pats fan here... don't use the rain as an excuse Connor... lots of fans were at the game last week to see Maye get pulled after 1 drive, I don't blame people for sitting this one out. The fans here are spoiled, it's okay to admit it.
Yeah we’re spoiled, but we have to show signs of improvement this year. Each year after Tom we have gotten worse and worse. That’s no excuse. 5 years out, we should be much better.

Drake Maye had a horrible O-line in college, he always had to move the ball so quick. So if the Patriots can put together a decent O-line for him, and give him an actual pocket to work with, look out. I hope the Pats don't rush him, I think he has a lot of potential, but something about him makes me think if the Pats throw him to the wolves that he could be a bust. And that's not even a knock on him at all, a lot (if not most) players are like that. It can be hard to bounce back after being rushed and having your confidence destroyed. I'm a Chiefs fans and I don't know if Mahomes would be the player he is today if he hadn't ended up in the situation he did. Andy Reid and the Chiefs' development of him allowed him and his talent to flourish.

That pocket presence, calm, takes that extra second, that’s a patriots QB. He’s gonna do just fine. And guys built like a horse too, go the size to go with it.
That's what impressed me the most. QBs like Brissett still can't handle the pocket, many nfl qbs aren't good in the pocket. This kid has not been rattled at all and has calmly turned these situations into positive plays. His athleticism has allowed him to either run to escape it and make something good happen or to just calmly flip it to a receiver for a positive gain. QBs that can take problems of pressure and turn them into positive plays are gold.

Judon would NEVER be a waste for a rebuilding team.....(OUTSIDE of this training camp where he's been a total diva/distraction regarding his contract), Judon has been nothing short of professional and a leader on that defensive front......and would be a CORNERSTONE for young defensive players to MODEL themselves after to accelerate that rebuild (especially on the defensive side of the ball).....being a productive player who gets the most out of himself and others (when healthy) are the kinds of veteran presences you WANT in a rebuilding team....(especially with an inexperienced coaching staff....more steadying presences, the better).....
BUT.....Judon was too much of a distraction and the contract demands (being his last big contract) was more than NE can stomach (albeit $50 mil in cap space 3/60m with 38 guaranteed would have gotten it done and plenty left over for the receiver they coveted next offseason.....it's business though 🤷♂️

It kind of irritates me how these front offices/ casual ass fans/ media try to "speed run" the development of a young player cuz they see Patrick Mahomes or they see the young quarterbacks doing great out of the gate and they try to force feed these other developing quarterbacks into being exactly that. when that's just not their style and not everybody develops at the same speed it's frustrating as hell because these idiots are going to literally cripple our football team even further or just create another Mac Jones situation : where you're throwing a kid to the Wolves way too early. this is the NFL its not college and damn sure not high school it takes time to pick up these schemes and some of these schemes are so damn Advanced you can't just learn it in a week
