Hello ladies, With my original Duo, like you, I used the Pressure Cook and sauté buttons exclusively when cooking. This Gourmet version allows for customized pre-sets. Each food button can be programmed for 3 different times, just press it 3 times. Examples: my bean button will cycle through a black bean, soaked chickpeas, and unsoaked chickpeas cook times. The oatmeal button is set for steel cut, rolled, and a reheat time in case I make a big batch. I have other buttons set for my frequent foods, and the convenience of these presets is a feature I never want to live without. I hope this tip comes in handy.
OK, I BOUGHT MY FIRST PRESSURE COOKER IN MY 79 YEARS. I RECEIVED MY NEW DUO GOURMET POT TWO WEEKS AGO AND IM ABOUT READY TO USE IT ON A SPECIAL RECIPE. CANT WAIT TO TRY IT OUT.
I really enjoy the vibe of this channel. Your mom is very calm and has good old fashioned American manners. I just bought this pot used for 50 dollars so I’m subscribed.
I can’t believe how helpful this was for me. Thank you so much for explaining about the natural pressure release being to just do nothing and to turn off “keep warm” unless you actually need to keep it warm to eat later! I was so confused in a dog food recipe I’m making it said to do natural pressure release and it might take 45 minutes and I was like what the heck does that mean? I wasn’t even thinking about the keep warm but when you explained it I was like, I don’t think I should have that on for natural release! I’m brand new to pressure cooking and all recipes seem to be talking about a model where the releasing is different than this one. Your video made it all clear for me.
Thank you Ladies awesome video as I’ve never had a pressure cooker & I didn’t have any knowledge of these whatsoever. I appreciated your detailed instructions. 😊
Yes you can use a normal lid when sauteing or even slow cooking. I prefer to pressure cook/steam vegetables in a steamer basket over a cup of water. Vegetables like broccoli that cook quickly, you can use a zero minute cook time. Which means bring the pressure cooker to pressure and when the time starts, hit cancel and immediately release the pressure. Of course, you could also use the saute function and a normal lid.
Okay- I have had my instant intimidation pot for two years now. I tried multiple times to use it and it was a fail every time. Your directions ( I was going to yard sale it) gave me the courage to try again. One huge flaw on the CostCo Instant Pot is that it is hard to read what is said on the top- the black top with the black letters. I am old- my eyesight is not that good. I took pictures with my cell phone to make it larger and still couldn't see. Black on black... BUT- Your careful directions about how it works and what each button does, helped me. Now here is the weird part- I felt like I know you two. Like you live in my town or that I have ran into you before. I know that is impossible. (I live in Northern CA) so, I must have watched other video's of yours. Anyway- thank you. :)
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. It is very thorough and helpful. I enjoyed watching it and learned several important things about my new instant pot. I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching future videos.
How did we survive before instant pots? I use mine every day. This looks delicious. I enjoy your presentation. I make cooking 🧑🍳 & instant pot videos too. I’d love to learn from each other. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
Honestly, I am just guessing how to use this instapot. I use this mainly to tenderize the meat or by making pot roast. Now…. Using the pressure cooker, with oxtail in it - just to make it tender, do I just click on “pressure cook”& click on the +/- sign for the number of minutes? Does it shut off automatically? What about the pressure level? How do I know if it’s ready? I am used to pressure cooker and once I hear the zzzzhing sound, I lower the temperature and time it. In the case of instapot, when I hear the zzzzhing sound, do I need to turn it off by unplugging it and wait for it to cool down? Also with the slow cook, meat, soup broth - how is it being used? Can you please explain how each button is used, so I can use it the way I should. I’ve had this appliance for a long time and it’s always a guessing game for me. I hear a lot of good things about how helpful it is. So Pls advise & thanks.
Yes - you just press the pressure cook button and adjust the time and the Gourmet will beep and start to pressurize. You can adjust it to low pressure, but the default is high pressure (you'll rarely need low pressure.) When it reaches pressure the time will start to count down. You don't need to adjust the heat, the pressure cooker will regulate the heat for you. When the time is up it will shut off automatically and begin to release pressure naturally. We have a good video on pressure releases studio.th-cam.com/users/videogafrMz41rpg/edit We have more information on our review post www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-duo-gourmet-review/ It's a great way to cook!
No a steamer is not included, but most any steamer will work if you have one already. Or, you can buy one on Amazon for about $20 amzn.to/3OJlBLG (affiliate link)
You can use the pressure cook function to steam your veggies. Quick steaming veggies like broccoli take zero minutes. You bring it to pressure and then release the pressure when the time shows up.
HOW TO TURN OFF THE SOUND ON THE DUO GOURMET INSTANT POT Right after you turn on the Duo Gourmet, press and hold the minus button [-] until the display indicates SOFF and the icon displays a little X next to the sound icon. To turn the sound on again, simply press the plus button [+] button until the display shows S On. Note that you can not turn off the sound while a cooking function is enabled.
On the Gourmet, if you push the Sterilize button until it's adjusted to less, it does a no-pressure steam function. The default for this is 30 minutes, but you can adjust it up or down to your desired time. Hope this helps!
You can use either use the Pressure Cook or the Saute button to steam in the Gourment. I often steam broccoli using the pressure cooking function. Just put your steamer basket in with 1 cup of water underneath to steam. For broccoli, you use a zero minute cook time. Which just means the pressure cooker comes to pressure and then you immediately release the pressure. If you prefer not to use a pressure cooking function, use the saute button with water underneath and leave the lid off or use a glass lid.
You'll steam food using a steamer basket and the pressure cook function. Broccoli has a zero to 1 minute pressure cook time. So just bring your pressure cooker to pressure with the time set for 1 minute and as soon as the time shows up, press the cancel button and quick release the pressure.

And if we use slow cooker
Is pressure release button is on or off
Leave the steam release valve in the open/venting position when slow cooking.
When cleaning the lid, does the metal piece underneath the metal cap come off to clean as well or is a permanent piece?
It doesn't not come off. It is a permanent piece.

How do use my duo as a slow cooker?
www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-duo-and-smartcooker/ Generally you'll use the high setting to slow cook.
Why can’t I get the lid on? It doesn’t fall into place.
Is the gasket in place properly? Did you line up the arrows on the lid with the ones on the housing?
What is capacity for that model?
6 quarts
How to steam in this model???
