I play it now for six years and I really enjoy playing it. We are with around 14 in my music school and sometimes we play songs with everyone.

Nice demonstration given that you only had a couple of minutes. Bassoon was the third instrument I played (after clarinet and piano) and the first instrument I actually worked very hard at. Made my own reeds and everything. And it seemed once I had a reed perfect, I got careless and hit my teeth with it at some point when I brought the instrument up into playing position. Good bye reed. I eventually changed to brass instruments, first the French horn (I believe the bassoon and horn are about the most difficult instruments in the orchestra). But finally went over to the dark side - the trumpet. Fun fact: The bassoon is the only standard orchestral instrument that requires ALL ten fingers to operate. (Not counting things like the harp or piano.)

Same! I have played piano and clarinet and am being “promoted” to bassoon!

The harp uses eight fingers (no pinkies-they're just too short!). 😊

@@Hairmetallurgist The pinky fingers are used when damping strings on the harp. But true, not for plucking (although I suspect there are some who have in some cases).

Not a cheap instrument but it's one of my favorites. When I was a kid I told my mom I wanted to play the bassoon or the bagpipes. I guess I like the double reed.

I have 2 custom shop guitars that each cost less than $1,000.
From what I've seen, a quality bassoon can run 15 or 20 thousand. I would love to learn and play a bassoon or even a double bassoon, but I don't want to $20,000 worth!!
