Perhaps we can have excursion trips to the kelongs. That will help the younger generations to learn more about kelongs. Some youngsters don't what kelongs are.
Singapore doesn’t really have anything now that it used to aside from hawker dishes. Now it’s just an expat hole catering to expats. It was the best in the early 2000s.
Why is the government removing all of these things that is part of Singapore heritage and culture. Why are they not preserving and protecting these so that our future generations can know more about Singapore. Out of context, i remember training in Nee Soon area during my NSdays and there in the training area stood a very impressive black and white mansion. One of the encik told us that this mansion is the estate of Mr Lim Nee Soon. It was sad to see the house vandalized and used as a training shed by the Army. Government should do more to protect all these historical buildings instead of destroying them and then build HDBs over it.

If singapore have a smart government to invest in making the northeast sector of singapore ( Changi point ) in the 1970s or even now ! into a tourist attractions area instead of dumping $$$ in the Changi airport's misc projects.....the kelongs, resorts, sea sports...etc will be a top locations for R & R in singapore !
Now 81, I have happy memories of being allowed by parents to accept a classmate’s invitation to spend a night at her family’s kelong. A motorised sampan picked 3 excited school girls. (There was a superstition that adult females are unlucky, but this didn’t apply to 10-12 year olds.) On arrival the sampan was lifted up and we carefully got off. There was one large enclosed rectangle. The net was lifted every four hours. To get to the other side of the rectangle we had to gingerly walk across on 3 long coconut tree trunks with squashy parts! As I could swim I wasn’t too worried about falling into the sea. Nevertheless took care with each step. We children understood not to get in the way when the few men were working. One of the men was a master cook. Dinner of freshly caught sea food was memorably good. We slept on mats on the wooden floor. I was lucky enough to enjoy more than one visit. Always a great adventure. I hope this kelong and a way of life will be preserved.
Yeah the:Gov must take whtever it takes 2preserve our kelong(altho we get our seafood)fr overseas😅But it's impt.2keep it❤lt's sad tho but at least let it run it's(just like our goat n frog farms😅lt's educational n school children love 2visit,yeah!God Bless*❤**
If durian can be sold in air-conditioned supermarket, what is so hard to keep this kelongs which don't take up precious land. It is just being make difficult that's all.
SFA only interested in giving money to "big" farms to spend on technology but only slowly die out after the grants run dry. See SAT, ACE, Apollo, BA. You name it...
Invest at least S$500,000 for commercial purposes. It is not easy to convert a fishing license to tourism, but it is easier to convert it to an offshore farm.
Was thinking i would miss the kelong. But after seeing so many complains, i feel like just tear it down. Sick of hearing these thoughtless complains. 😑😑😑
The owner decided to quit running the kelong. "The authorities have given Singapore Heritage Society (SHS) until the end of 2024 to appoint a consultant to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of retaining the kelong as a community and education space," Thus SHS is looking for donors to fund the study.
There is no place for these kind of business as Singapore according to the current leaders. As much as some of you do not like to admit it, this just does not make fiscal sense to the current profit-driven political party, so they will do their best to cut funding and try to drive them out so they can repossess the area to build more profitable businessess like resorts or yatch clubs.
The government just wanr build more hdb so we will combine malaysia and singapore together Even tourist find singapore are attractive boring Keep building hdb i want see how long singapore tourist can last
Yes you are absolutely right 👍 My feeling too. The so called natural environment like" parks", "reservoir" etc are all artificial - carefully planned and built, buying trees from overseas to replant. There is nothing natural in Singapore.

PAPism favours wealth and destroys culture
Gone is another way of life consigned to our history books
Stayed overnight in one off Malacca Straits in the 1960s, interesting. Should be preserved as one of a tourist excursion or stay ❤
i was there before... kelong 110 and kelong 87... have all wonderfull photos too...

Nice documentary. There are still plenty of kelongs across the water in Batam / Bintan, Indonesia. Some have been converted to bases for snorkeling 😁
Kimberly Jow always produced the best docs. Love.

Can go fishing there ? Like in Malaysia?
SFA only interested in giving money to "big" farms to spend on technology but only slowly die out after the grants run dry. See SAT, ACE, Apollo, BA. You name it...
Singapore has tons of restriction laws, it will be very difficult to survive!
Can convert to kelong resorts 🏘
Under regulation, it is not allowed. haha. Singapore style.

@@DynamicLearning4u Might as well go Malaysia Kukup. Can set off fireworks too for special occassions.
What is the Annual Property Taxes - if applicable - for this ?
Turf Club gone is good according to my genius son .I also agree 👍. To cater for foreigners is definitely way too much

No more kelong in games
Shameless PAP, allowing foreigners to come here but cannot allow a kelong to continue its operation

This government is simply out of their minds. I am not really not happy 🙂. Fyi
The owner is already 76 years old and decided to quit. Singapore Heritage Society would like to preserve it but they need donors for support.
