@@SkySenseiVB It definitely did. He definitely has some rhythm, and if you not dance to that he will hit you and hit you again. Often times my reaction to a hit with my Switch Axe is to just Silkbind-catch my fall after a hit... but then his second hit comes.
@@SkySenseiVB I try right now that "Advanced: Crimson Calamity" and slowly I get the feeling he doesn't only have more HP but he is at the edge of input reading me. Whenever he has his wings pointed forward, you do not need to approach him up front since he does those slam moves ALLOT and seemingly somewhat faster then in the other Quest. But this might be because I use the Switchaxe, I feel like there is so little time between his attacks for me to really do anything. By the time I ran to him and even only gave him one hit(the Forward Overhead Smash) he is already preparing for his next move and I didn't even have had the chance to switch into Swordmode yet. And the bloated HP make the little damage you do manage to get in look paltry. ugh
Loved fighting this beast in GU. Was having some trouble with its new moves, this greatly helped me with that! Amazing video man! Just want to add a bit here: on the wing thrust -> spin attack, you can also avoid it by standing under the tip of vals' other wing. So ig the safe spot is between there and under its head.
this is such a rad breakdown! I've been learning the base fight so I can actually feel more confident against risen valstrax, and I'd picked up some of this but you really break it down in such a useful way, thank you!
Great video but if anyone is planning on rolling through attacks you need evade window. Rolling in this game is practically useless without evade window. But you can also superman dive to get huge i-frames and safely avoid attacks, you probably won’t get a good counter opportunity but at least you’re alive
Thank you for this in-depth guide, Crimson Glow is a monster I never really had TOO much trouble with but the Advanced Event Quest version that dropped today was a whole different story. Took five attempts to nail and the fifth attempt went far, FAR better (though I still carted twice oops) knowing what tells to look out for thanks to this video!
If you can play Insect Glaive I highly recommend vs it. 1 shotted it and this is my first MH. Not bragging I really think some weapons have better Matchups vs certain monsters.
One tip for bow users who use dodge bolt is for the double stab or swipe depending on what variation it does you can dodge bolt first attack, instant dodge bolt again, this will evade if it does the double stab, if it doesent do double stab evade a third time which will end up dodging the spin attack, this also sets your charge level to max again as all of these will be perfect counters
no kidding. it took me 2 days of solid grinding to finally beat. I even had to swap off my main weapon as a gunner to the dual blades to gain an extra direction to dodge into, since dodging into valstrax doesn't typically end well from mid to long range.
Sorry this is so late! Somehow this didn't popup on my comments section. Thats kinda tough, generally speaking towards the end of hunts, Valstrax only does roars to charge up. Kinda like he gives it one final effort. But most charge ups do utilize a roar you can counter
Thanks for this guide. HR 94 almost there and I cannot wait to fight him :) Also are you planning to add guide for Bow, mouse and keyboard tutorial with combos ?
Can't wait to see what you think! Let me know how your first hunt goes haha. I am thinking of doing a bow keyboard tutorial! Since I have one for controller, I wanted to do a few new weapons I haven't done yet so dual blades and now I'm working on Charge Blade. Probably Bow after that :)
Great guide! I'm approaching HR 100, so this is in my not so distant future. I'm new to MH with Rise, playing on the PS5, and sort of new to this kind of complexity and difficulty, so I have a question: How do you go about learning all of this? I watched the video, but can't remember all of the differences and cues of the moves. Do you go in to a solo fight against him, focused on one move or two, and learning those. Once memorized, try some others? I imagine it would take hours and lots of dying. Or do you try to remember all of this first, and then go in? Either way, I am sure I will be back here to check on some things. I've mostly gotten by in the game so far solo, learning fights as I go. I looked up a guide for this one because I tried Crimson Valstrax in the Event for HR and was overwhelmed. I wanted to get an idea of him ahead of time, but did terrible, so decided to look up a guide.
It's definitely a lot of practice. Learning the indicators takes a bit. I go in solo and I put my companions on hold as well that way I know I have a monster's full attention. Indeed it is a lot of dying, getting hit, testing where is safe etc. But yea I focus on moves that I don't do well against and try to learn those well, one at a time. Not all at once. Over time you'll notice various monsters have similar tendencies - they all have a base monster build which Capcom uses. Like Kushala and Velkhana have similar patterns. Narga, Barioth, and Tigrex are all similar, Rathalos and Rathian etc. So learning one monster can translate a bit to the next. There are unique monsters though like Valstax ofc. I also have experience from previous games and one thing about Monster Hunter is the most core attacks don't change too much from game to game. They do get new attacks or their special moves change, but some of the normal combos stay the same so over time and games - I have gotten to know the attacks pretty well. So for you, just keep practicing honestly - equip your palico with ALL healing items so that way you get heals during a hunt and you have to worry less about healing and more about trying not to get hit again. :)
You really broke him down good. I was beating him multiple times, but have trouble farming him for the gear without failing sometimes.
Hope this helped!! ^__^

Man... that fight is really bonked. I keep dodging but some attacks just come to fast or something, still hit me...

Dude, your videos are insane, I can't imagine how many efforts you put in just for one video.
Thank you! They do take a bit of time to put together but I hope they really help!!

Really enjoy this series! Thank you for uploading!

Thanks for this. I just beat the crimson glow valstrax emergency quest solo thanks to this guide. Cheers!
Glad it helped and congrats on the hunt!! The emergency one was a tough one!

he's doin it!
I LOVE THIS!
I wish the FoV wasn't so damn tiny in Monster Hunter
Omg I never understood why I couldn't counter his ambush with counter peak. Now I do.
I really wish we could! It'd be so sick honestly haha
Thanks for the awesome guide! Please do the monsters too. Btw, how to tell if it is a roar or a charge?

@@SkySenseiVB I'm on the right track then. It'll take a little work, I'm sure, but I'm really enjoying the game. I appreciate the advice!
can you survive his ambush with that anti-1 hit skill over certain hp threshhold?
