This is how you do a live action adaptation. Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm can learn something from this. This project had nowhere near the budget of what Disney has available with every movie and yet the characters and production design look like the comics to the detail.

In France, that movie is not really liked. At the contrary, it is considered as a bad movie. It is "Astérix et Obélix Mission Cléopâtre" that is considered as the best Astérix live action movie and as the best (and only good) adaptation of a Belgian-French bande dessinée.

To me, it got the spirit of the adapted works better than Mission Cleopatra, which felt a bit too meta, something following films sadly took to a new level. I read most of the stories in the comics form and this first movie really gets it.

I don't how the jokes are translated in English, but maybe it works better in English for "contre César" and it works better in French for "mission Cléopâtre". I dunno.

In my humble opinion, this was the only Asterix and Obelix Live Action movie that is worthy. I don't include Cleopatra one cuz the silliness started from there. This one got cartoony things but the attires were rustic and so village, not to mention how the Romans looked. It was clearly inspired in the comics but they did give them a certain vibe to feel more authentic, thing that I love and put this movie in a high place.
